Instead the nation went wobbly (just like you) and scared Washington into screwing up everything.

I think it's owed to Watergate (see results of '72 election; Tet was '68.)

If we did not fight in Vietnam, the Berlin Wall would still be up today. Those men did not die in vain. RIP General Westmoreland.

... a war begun by a Democrat to build his legacy, expanded by a Democrat to acquire personal power, and ended by a Republican because the people demanded it and it was the best thing to do for the country.

..for our victory at the Battle in the Valley of Death that was the Ia Drang Valley of November 1965.

T'was unforgettable.

No, the nation started to go wobbly right after Walter Cronkite made his little "we've lost the war" speech which was during the Tet Offensive. There was no public will to win the war long before Watergate.

Continuation. That said, God bless all those who did their duty in Vietnam, my husband among them. YOU did not lose the war, and your efforts continue to echo through our times.

If you want to blame somebody for Vietnam, blame the Frogs. Should have never allowed them to get back Indochina after WWII.

With a very gentle face.
Something about his face in that picture. It is the look of a true leader who has earned the respect of all who served with him.

Yes I agree. If it weren't for the troops that fought in Vietnam, all of SE Asia would be communist and probably the Philippines too.

I feel the best we could have of gotten out of that conflict would be what we have in Korea today. At least S. Vietnam would still be free. If we marched on Hanoi and/or the Red River, the Chicoms would have gotten a lot more involved.

“It’s more accurate to say our country did not fulfill its commitment to South Vietnam,” he said. “By virtue of Vietnam, the U.S. held the line for 10 years and stopped the dominoes from falling.”

As a vet and a part year resident of Thailand, I can attest to his accuracy in this statement. If we had the political will, the tragedies of Laos and Cambodia as well as that of Vietnam would not have happened. As is, Thailand was strengthened as was Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia. The fighting in the Philippines could have been much worse. It is sad what the three dominoes which fell have gone through and are still suffering.

"Tell them what it was for."

People have their own dignified perspective on it. Only the Left wants to smear their sacrifice, partly by claiming that they died for nothing.
