Phoenix will be among among the first cities to participate in the initial phase of a national hiring partnership between The Home Depot and four of the country's leading national Hispanic organizations

Well, we DON'T rent pigs, and I think it's best just to say it up front. Because a man that WILL rent a pig is hard to stop.
my movie reference is completely lost on y'all, isn't it? proving again that Texas IS like a whole other country
That's because most American have mortgages, car payments, and other bills to pay and working one or two days a week as a day laborer won't bring in enough money to pay their bills. On the other hand, with many Hispanic day laborers living 10-12 in an apartment or 30-40 in a house, their expenses are relatively low so they can survive financially by working only a couple days a week.
I get a lot of obscure movie references, but that one slipped right by me. It's been way too long...
Well, except for those of us who left the patrón behind a few generations ago, got educated, then got too "uppity" for bayourod's taste, making it necessary for him to import illegals.
yeah, well, that's fantasy.
i wish i were a millionaire....
the reality is, neither the republican nor the democrat party are going to follow immigration law.
sorry.
perhaps if you'd said it in English...
have a nice weekend folks.
There's nothing magical about illegal alien workers. If all of the jobs currently filled by illegal alien workers were instead filled by legal immigrant workers, then the result would be an additional $800 billion (if accurate) that would be added to the GDP by productive legal immigrant workers. Yours is not a good argument for allowing illegal aliens to work here.
Me too. Time to start shopping at Lowes, and other stores.
Yup...me too.
Lowe's for me from now on too.
Phuk Home Depot.
I have a friend who was considering hiring an illegal, off-the-books, maid. My friend reasoned that the maid would basically not dare sue if she slipped on the wet floor and fell; was willing to be paid in cash for about 1/3 of what the local bonded maid service charges and wouldn't dare steal from the home for fear of being reported to police and deported (whether deportation really happens or not). Net-net, my friend wanted to hire an illegal for the same reason people like bayourod hires them; illegal aliens are "easier to manage" in the eyes of those who hire them, because they're scared, poor, and uneducated and won't get "uppity".
I agree. Laws are worthless if they aren't enforced. That's why I'm not very excited about any of the immigration bills that have been introduced in Congress. If any of them pass, it'll just mean more immigration laws that won't be enforced by our federal government.
I shop at Lowes, Doit Center (former Lumber city) and OSH, Orchard Hardware.
Used to actually shop at Bradley's hardware til the old man went off to better things. That little hardware store in Burbank, Ca was used for numerous shoots in movies and TV shows. Now it is a copy center and I don't need that very
much.
Even though I would never knowingly hire an illegal alien, I understand how it must be pretty enticing for many Americans to do so because of the reasons that you pointed out. It would be like having an indentured servant working for you who you would have complete control over.
The one is the San Fernando Valley is disgusting - too much human feces on the walkways - I'm afraid to track it into the house. Their criminal alien bootleg contractors are way too agressive in the parking lot as well.
EXACTLY. BTW, I talked my friend out of it, explaining to her that she's just adding to the problem. But, it WAS tempting to her; the irony is that a bargain-maid was tempting to her because her taxes are so high because there are so many illegals sucking up social services because there are so many people wanting to hire cheap cheap labor from Mexico and the circle goes round and round.

True story. When my daughter was a freshman in college, her roommate was the daughter of a wealthy Miami doctor. They hired an illegal for a maid. The wife felt bad for the woman and knew she had a teen-age daughter so she would give her alot of the nice clothes that her own kid had outgrown or didn't wear that much (Gucci, Prada). Anyway, the family went away for the weekend and came back to find all the clothes in the mother's & daughter's closets were gone along with several pieces of jewelry. It seems that the woman's boyfriend had to "suddenly" leave the country and she followed, helping herself to an employee bonus.
Thank you much! I filled out a complaint card at Home Depot when I went there earlier this afternoon -- not to buy but to fill out the complaint card. I figured I would do it at the local store and now with the email addresses I can send it to their national folks as well. :)
I'm getting pretty darn good at deciphering the labels. Food 4 Less is stocking more and more ethnic and imported food with non English labels.
I shop at the 99 cent store, and while the staff is predominantely Hispanic, they speak passable English. Not to mention that they're friendly, but most people are friendly up here. I'm on a strict budget, so I shop wherever I can find a bargain.
The only places I experience a language barrier are small stores that cater to Spanish speakers. If they're having a good sale on something, I'll figure out how to tell the butcher what I need. I have no idea whether they're illegal or not.
I will ask my bf to try Lowe's and Harbor freight for his needs, but it's up to him.
Janet, do you live in the Los Angeles area? I moved back up the the San Bernardino High Desert.
Duh! That's because they have a work permit. They aren't forced to scrounge up jobs in parking lots and street corners, because they are here legally. Sheesh, still being precious...
By the way, your tagline emphasizes the chip on your shoulder.
