Phoenix will be among among the first cities to participate in the initial phase of a national hiring partnership between The Home Depot and four of the country's leading national Hispanic organizations

Here in Texas, they're called "Dollar General", and they're everywhere. I wonder who owns them?
Just guessing, but it's probably been 2 years since I've set foot in a Home Depot.
Anyone who wants a job in America today can find one.
If you don't want a construction job why do you begrudge others who do?
Hispanics.
Don't know where you got your numbers from. I was listening to a talk show on radio this morning, and their figures were from Washington. They stated that because of the flow of illegals, the wages for good construction work was down by 28%.
thanks for the clarification. it's crystal clear now.
I don't think he does, but recent statics would show 90% of Mexicans in this country are illegal (that means against the law) ...
Quote: Studies have shown that illegals' downward wage influence is only 4%
That is more crap. Construction jobs in my area: drywallers painters, brick layers etc etchave dropped at least 50% in wages due to illegal aliens. I have insurance with many of the "white" companies and most are going out of business because they can't compete unless they hire illegals...or they have gotten rid of their higher paid "white" workers and hired illeags. Some are not doing it because they have principles.

True but at what wages??

I begrude the whoring of the industry due to illegals.
And WalMart...they are canning contractors and suppliers across the nation which don't meet their new "diversity" requirements.
What bogus BS. That story is about law firms, not suppliers, and Walmart is only the latest in a LONG list of other corproations who have been doing it for years.
What city are you in?
There are many legal immigrants who don't have jobs.
Many legal immigrants receive their visas because of family connections, not because of work connections.
I have used a day-laborer service many times, and many of them were legal immigrants who did not have a job.
All industries involving any kind of labor have had their wages slashed. Including the pest control industry, all construction, truck driving, all restaurant and food services, AC and heating installation, and most all the rest. I have talked to people first hand in these industries, and they are MAD!
That goes back to my original point...
How do you reconcile bringing in immigrants to work at jobs because you can't hire Americans on the one hand with unemployed people standing around waiting for a day-job, just as they did during the Great Depression, on the other?

Don't believe everything you hear on talk shows. I would doubt the validity of any statistic that categorizes "good" construction jobs. What impact did they hove on "bad" construction jobs. "Average" ones? "Great" ones?
When you start talking construction jobs watch for union vs nonunion. Many big projects, especially government ones, will permit only union workers on the site. The union is paid well above the private nonunion jobs.
Exactly! They are going to lose big time. This is something Jesse Jackson would do. Now, we've got the Mexican groups doing it too. Next, it will be Muslims!!!
My response was directed to that specific comment. To: bayourodPlease tell us how you can tell which ones are not legal immigrants or citizens?In-status immigrants have jobs as a condition of obtaining a work permit and have no need to stand around waiting for day labor. Are you really that dense? Or just obtuse and argumentative?
It's inappropriate to call someone dense when you are the one making an inaccurate statement. To: HiJinxIn-status immigrants have jobs as a condition of obtaining a work permit and have no need to stand around waiting for day laborThere are many legal immigrants who don't have jobs.

Spanish signs I can live with. If it ever gets to the day when I see Arabic signs over every aisle, I'll know that it's officially too late.
