CAIRO (Reuters) - An explosion shook the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday, starting a fire and sending a cloud of smoke up over the town, a resident said.

The explosion, audible more than one km (half a mile) away, appeared to take place in a market area which includes shops popular with tourists, said the resident, who asked not to be named.

"Rmember the French charter plane that crashed into the sea there when Tony Blair was visiting? Ever solved?"

Not that I know of, we followed that story for months.

And the woman go without tops there. We saw many topless women in Sharm el Sheik with drooling Muslim men crowded around them.

Probably retaliation for the arrest of the guy suspected to be involved in the London bombings.

This sounds bigger than last years bombings. Could these be targeting Britons? Or Israelis?

there were reports of cells of terrs in the Sinai mountains, living out their primitive life-style fantasy, as they did in Afghanistan.

I could never be a terr. All my primitive lifestyle fantasies involve Latin American beach towns, outdoor cafes, and too much time on my hands.

Sinai? These guys are nuts.

I take it the resort wasn't very close to "Peace Road."

More data from Reuters:

CAIRO (Reuters) - Explosions in the Egyptian Red Sea resort of Sharm el-Sheikh on Saturday killed at least 20 people and wounded about 100, a rescue official said.

Police said the explosions were caused by four car bombs in Sharm el-Sheikh and the nearby resort of Naama Bay.

The explosions caused pandemonium in the resort as people rushed to go home for fear of more car bombs, said one resident, who asked not to be named.

Thanks for the ping.

I just heard it on the news and came on here to get the real scoop.

As far as the plane going down, seems to me that those questions were never answered and dead ends were had by all.
