LONDON Suspect's killing by police rattles a city on edge
San Francisco Chronicile ^ | 7/23/05 | Alan Cowell, NYT

London -- At about 10 a.m. on a sunny, summery Friday morning, London crossed a once-unthinkable line in its unfolding war on terror.

In a city where most police officers do not carry guns, the shock from the shooting death of a man in a subway car was palpable. It raised questions about police firearms practices, kindled uncertainty among Muslims and deepened the anxiety of a city that looks, these days, under siege.

The police said they had trailed a man, described as South Asian in appearance, from a house in Stockwell, a hardscrabble neighborhood of South London. He was clad in bulky clothes on a warm summer's day, witnesses said. He vaulted over a turnstile and dashed onto a train, with plainclothes police officers right behind him.

The police said the man did not obey orders to stop, so the officers shouted at the passengers to get down and take cover.

The man stumbled onto a train, and a passenger, Mark Whitby, told the BBC: "I looked at his face. He looked sort of left and right, but he basically looked like a cornered rabbit, a cornered fox. He looked absolutely petrified, and then he sort of tripped, but they were hotly pursuing him."

The officers "couldn't have been any more than two or three feet behind him at this time," Whitby said, "and he half tripped and was half pushed to the floor, and the policeman nearest to me had the black automatic pistol in his left hand."

The officer with the gun "held it down to the guy and unloaded five shots into him," Whitby said.

Just a little subtle Brit Humor. Of course not all Knights went to the Crusades. :)

"raised questions about police firearms practices"

What the hey, the scumbag died, didn't he? Sounds to me like they're getting enough practice.

A guy on Fox news said these Mullah's need to be shot down the second they advocate violence against the innocent!

Now THAT is something I can get behind wholeheartedly!

I am all for blowing the terrorist to Hell, but I have not heard an explanation of why they pumped 5 rounds into this kids brain. Did they think he had a bomb and could pull a string to set it off, or what? I am just curious.

Yes they did and therefore they killed him. Bad judgment by the bad guy. Good judgment by the London police.

Thats what I call gun control. Using most likely a Glock, a small spread on 5 shots after a chase and your heart pumping 200+ bpm..

That must have been the case. The Metropolitan police are well trained and don't use violent means unless neccessary. The news reports I read told of this suspect being under surveillance, suspected of being a bomber, wearing a heavy coat in hot weather, and headed for the Underground.

He had already boarded a crowded train. The police were no doubt under specific orders to shoot to kill in that circumstance. This isn't your average cop shootout circus.

Bump! to a fine job London did in preventing a terror attack.

I'll give you that - the press tends to be more interested in "Subjective" descriptions. It would just be nice if they would balance their "objective" descriptions in a way that would result in a more balanced article. This article, for instance, says nothing, whatsoever, about the unseasonble coat or ANYTHING that would try to explain the shooting - they focus instead on the "scared rabbit" and "worried Muslims." Not what most of us see as a "balanced" article.

Britain's problem, as it is in so many nations in the West, is that they have admitted into their country too many non-whites.

Then what is your explanation for the IAC, CPUSA, ANSWER, The Labour Party, add any left alphabet commie group that are WHITE and HIDE behind the Islamic Terror groups and encourage and financially assist the terror attacks?

I believe I read something on this post about a "remote trigger," which is very possible as well as very likely. If they'd tried to capture him, and if he'd had one, he could've set off an explosion anyway.

They didn't take that chance, and I for one applaud them for it. The bottom line is still that especially during wartime, when a policeman tells you to stop, you will stop, one way or the other.

I replied earlier when I was just waking up from a nap (I'm a nocturnal creature, sorry).

There is no doubt that people are cautious. People are indeed looking up and down the train for Asians and Arabs carrying backpacks. This has nothing to do with being "on edge" per se. This is what normal people, i.e., ones who don't work for the effing stupid liberal media, call "vigilance".

London is vigilant. And if the Muslim community doesn't shove it's self-righteousness back up its arse and start co-operating with the police to get rid of the radicals, there are going to be vigilantes to follow.

Regards, Ivan

Does anyone know how they knew the Asian man was shot only because he was a muslim? He refused to stop, he knew the situatiion and paid the porice. Oh well.

Ok, here we go again.

In the original reports by witnesses from Sky News and the Beeb, between 5 and 20 plainclothes officers appeared out of nowhere after an overdressed Asian (translation: Middle Eastern) man jumps the turnstile and runs for a train after being ordered to stop. Five or more people tackle him after he trips, and one of them fires 5 times into his head from contact or really close range.

Ok, those are the original reports — a follower of 'The Religion of Peace' was being followed by at least 5 plainclothes officers — when ordered to stop the individual tries to get on crowded train, trips. The officers, obviously expecting a boom, fall on this guy like a grenade and fire 5 rounds into his head from really, really close range. That's it. At least 5 guys, expecting to be blown into red mist in the attempt to protect a large number of civilians, put it all on the line to save them.

Within the hour, more and more subtly, the "details" come out, until we have this article as a result half a planet away. Terrified minority member shot by cops with "Big, black guns" (I really love that part, originally from the Beeb!) New implications; crazed, inadequately trained, jack-bootless thugs spray 5 indiscriminately aimed shots, risking innocent bystanders, into a poor, terrified aforementioned religious minority member, miraculously hitting him in the head. Oh, the horror!

At one time, I always used to wait until all the reports and information was in, to see what really happened. Now, I firmly believe that the best chance I have to understand what the actual facts were come from the original reports, before our "non-partisan, objective, non-ideologue journalists" edit (read spin) it. Thank god, the internet permits the examination of raw information, before it gets edited. More and more, bit by bit, I'm living up to my tagline.
