WASHINGTON, July 28 (Xinhuanet) -- About 30 percent of US soldiers coming home from Iraq have developed symptoms of mental disorder three or four months after returning, according to a latest survey.
The survey, released Thursday by Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley, surgeon general of the US Army, said when the troops left combat zones, only 3-5 percent of them were immediately found with serious mental problems, which suggests the disorders have a latent period.
The symptoms include anxiety, depression, nightmares, anger andan inability to concentrate.
In some severe cases of these symptoms, the soldiers were diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD.
The survey thus recommended the Army to follow up mental statusof soldiers after they leave Iraq, rather than only conducting a check upon their leaving.
In a pilot program conducted on 1,000 US soldiers returning from Iraq to Italy last year, Army doctors found a much greater percentage of mental health problems than they expected.
These mental problems usually stem form the stress of combat, the sight of mutilated bodies and a sense of desperation when a urgent situation is beyond control, according to Army doctors.
To prevent further increase of mental disorders among US soldiers in Iraq, the Army has dispatched about 200 mental health experts to provide guidance and treatment for mentally disordered soldiers.
.......excellent!
........over 70 percent of U.S. Public School Children are on mental drugs both legal and illegal?
.......bad fruit of NEA....ACLU.....Unions?
I don't come into contact with our returning troops, but this sounds far fetched. I believe our men and women are well prepared for what they are doing, and are not unstable enough to experience these types of disorders on a large scale, after returning home.
What's your take?
Of course the source is more than a bit suspect.
I'm just soooo sure the ChiComs have a lock on the US militarys' mental health issues, But then again, they think One Dum Puk from North Korea is "normal".
I don't believe it.
Why don't they also dispatch several hundred military chaplains who have a true faith in the Lord Jesus?
Then, they will tell military personnel about the One Man Who will give all these soldiers hope, strength, and guidance, not only while over there, but also when they come back home.
Coming from the Chinese Press.....I have to question the accuracy....
Some -- but certainly not 30%...
Hell -- there are folks that think I'm still wired wild, for the past 40 Years..
NO ONE ever gets 100% laid back "normal" after stomping in the shit..
Semper Fi
I just posted this one to show how crappy Chinese media are
PTSD or some sort of mental disorders are very natural for returning troops!
That is nothing new!
Well, with less schizoid (=less PC) rules of engagement the number, whatever it may be, would surely come down.
and 100% of the chinese who belong to the commie scum party are certifiably nuts!
Uyp, I'm going to trust a Chinese paper to tell me what my owh surgen general said.
And our surgen general is a Shrink now ?
With the psycho-lobby defining virtually any thing they want as a mental disease this does not say much.
The Chinese Press is merely quoting the Army's surgeon general.
Don't forget that many mental health professionals think that a belief in an objective right and wrong is an emotional disorder. They also think that homosexuality is not.
this sounds extremely far-fetched.
?Manchurian Candidate Press?
What percentage of the total US population has these same disorders? I'm curious how this stacks up.
"The problems include anxiety, depression, nightmares, anger and an inability to concentrate, according to Lt. Gen. Kevin Kiley and other military medical officials.
Frankly, I would think these would be normal, rational, decompressing reactions from folks who've fought to defend our nation, only to see our nation (IE - the media and the cRATS) demeaning them and their service!
Well, actually, scratch that. I didn't look at the source and confused it with the American/Western press. But that is very telling, is it not?
Not in this day and age when the psycho-lobby is cataloging more than 100 "new" mental diseases a year in an attempt to prop up the great fraud that Psychiatry has become. There are now more psycological diseases than biological ones, and most of them are under 8 years old.
