CARACAS, Venezuela, Aug. 1 (UPI) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez lashed out against the recently approved Central American Free Trade Agreement, saying it would harm Latin America.
Chavez called the agreement "perverse" and said it would only serve the interests of the United States, El Nacional reported Monday.
The agreement eliminates trade barriers between the United States and five Central American countries -- Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua and Costa Rica -- along with the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean.
The U.S. House approved the agreement last week after it has already passed in the U.S. Senate.

Well, there's proof right there that passage was the right thing to do.
All the usual suspects are shrieking.
Good. Let 'em howl.
Well hey. If Chavez doesn't like it, it can't be all that bad.
Chavez has allies on the left and the extreme right.
That settles it for me. CAFTA was good...
Why? He was opposed to it from the get-go.
Exactly. If Chavez doesn't like it, then it's good.
I sure hope that Chavez's quote makes the papers in Central America.
I'm glad he hates it so much.
That simply cannot be. Free Trade is Socialism, remember?
American Freeper says Chavez is a fruitcake.
He's also several bricks short of a load, not the sharpest knife in the drawer and so forth and so on.
Great points! This is too funny -- the doom and gloom (D&G) brigade has ended up on the side of Chavez with their sky is falling comments. One of them could have written this article! :)
Hey, Chavez, what's "perverse" is that you are Fidel's butt-boy..... now that wouldn't go over so well with most of your countrymen if they actually had a vote in your depraved dictatorship!
How about hes a couple cans short of a 6 pack? I love it - "perverse" from a guy who has the gaul to insult a catholic cardinal, the highest ranking official in Latin America. Cant remember his name, but Chavez called him a "demon" when he said Chavez was turning Venezuela into a dictatorship. The truth hurts, doesnt it Hugo?
That seals it for me. CAFTA was the right thing.
If anything is perverse, it's Chaves and his commie dictator friends. And that includes Jimmy Carter, the scumbag.
