"Indeed, the preparations for that assault began months ago in the editorial columns of The Wall Street Journal..."

So much for his credibility. We don't control the media. That's the Dems' territory.

Well, that would definately fly in the face of Bush's demand that everyone cooperate with Fitzgerald.

Look at the byline. This is Joe Conason. He has not written an honest word for decades. Don't take this seriously.

I had always heard that Fitzgerald is a Democrat.....anyone know for sure? I'm not sure that it matters, if he's a straight arrow.

"All you need to know, is that he was a Clinton apologist."

I think he was worse than just that. AFAIR Consason was the one that tried germ warfare against Pat Buchanan during the either the 1996 or 2000 election. Conason had a bad case of the flu, so he licked his hands and then rubbed his hands over the doorknobs at Buchanan's suite in hopes that Buchanan would get it. This is when Buchanan was running for President.

Now while I dislike Buchanan, I think anyone trying something like that is slimey. When he talks about others sliming their opponents there is a word for it -- projection.

I see Joe Conason is pushing the story- the latest effort on the part of the Democrats to keep a stiff upper lip and act like they don't have a care in the world that the Fitzgerald inquiry targets them. They keep on lisping and it gives them away.

From a previous post on Conason by Freeper L.N. Smithee :

This is reminiscent of the article that Joe Conason wrote for Spy magazine, which went out of biz shortly after it published a cover story on the quagmire that was the Gulf War. They wrote a speculative piece about how support for the war was on the wane, but Saddam negotiated surrender shortly after press time on the piece. Oops.
Anyhoo, Conason in 1992 followed up on the rumors of an extramarital affair between George H.W. Bush and an assistant by writing a story entirely based on the word of a journalist he referred to as "Ms. X", who conveniently confirmed rumors of Bush's supposed philandering that had been floating around for years, according to journalists with...how you say? Ah, yes...standards, who refused to publish the stories without a on-the-record source.

Funny when it was Ken Starr that was attacked viciously by the Clinton slander machine, it wasn't "slime" to the media but serious charges that needed to be looked into. Funny how this libidiot claims Kerry was the victim of similar "sliming" tactics, but Bush being all but accused of having colluded on 9-11 by the Democratic darling Michael Moore, that's a-okay...it's a serious documentary we all need to see. And of course Ted Kennedy, Al Gore and others all being Kerry's appointed attack dogs accusing Bush of every sin ever known to man, that's okay too. No slime there. Please, the US media are the lords of the slime.

I have repeatedly seen this angle on the liberal sites lately -- that the GOP is about to "slime" Fitzgerald. Does anyone know what the liberals are talking about?

They are presuming that Republicans would do what they would be doing in similar circumstances, and trying to head it off by "exposing" it.

I have heard his name before, but I really didn't know what he writes.

Conason writes for the Village Voice. He is of the foaming-at-the-mouth rabid school of left-wing journalism.

In other words, you can safely discount whatever he has to say.

Yes, I was being a wee bit toned down. Conason is a HUGE jerk/idiot/moron/POS.

Granted this guy Conason is a maggot but what gives you any confidence that SP is digging deep? I guess what I'm asking is that how do you know Fitz is going to do the right thing? What gives us that confidence?

There must be some memo circulating telling people to write this or something.

There usually is when the talk concerns rats in trouble. They usually repeat the talking points mindlessly, word for word, just like their emails from their little shadow gov say. This "Hastert/or insert some other pubbie name wants Fitzgerald out" spin has been the "meme of the week" all over the web.

This isn't over by a long shot.

I'm thinking this prosecutor has really got his hands full, what with the Plame case and this ongoing case in Chicago that just had a leak.

Does anyone know what the liberals are talking about?

Hey, anyone who can figure THAT out certainly deserves a Nobel Prize!

The only sounds I hear out of liberal mouths are "blah blah yada blah."

Maybe this is just a way to keep this matter in the press.

Or perhaps this is their way of providing cover so the UN Oil for Food scandal and the Air America scandal stay out of the press.

We already know that Fitzgerald told Rove that he isn't the target of the probe, due to the nature of the evidence collected so far.

This is going to end with Democrats in jail, rather than Rove in handcuffs.
