James Carville: Special Counsel Fitzgerald to Subpoena Top Timesman
NewsMax ^ | 8/8/05

Posted on 08/08/2005 9:08:38 AM PDT by areafiftyone

Former Clinton attack dog James Carville predicted Monday that Leakgate Special Prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald will be "coming after more people at the New York Times" - in addition Times reporter Judy Miller, who is in her sixth week behind bars for refusing to divulge her sources.

Calling Fitzgerald "relentless," the Clintonista-turned-CNN commentator told radio host Don Imus: "My sense is he's coming after more people at the New York Times. He's going subpoena Bill Keller and all of them and ask them what Judy Miller told them. And if they don't talk he's going to stick them in jail."

Keller is the Times executive editor.

Carville said there was "heavy, heavy speculation out there" that Miller was being used by the White House to "disseminate this" - an apparent reference to CIA employee Valerie Plame's name.

"There are all sorts of rumors and I hear second hand that [Miller] was screaming out in the news room about this."

The Times, said Carville, "to some extent is going to have to come clean. Because they're going to have to tell us what Judy Miller knew, when she knew it and who she told."

"And there's a lot of people at the Times - and I know this to be a fact - who believe that," he insisted.

"It's going to be very interesting to see," Carville mused, "whether [Miller's] problem is a first amendment [problem] - i.e., I want to protect a source - or a fifth amendment [problem] - I was out spreading this stuff too."

If Judy Miller was being used by the White House and is protecting the White House vis a vis the Plame Affair then I will, I will, well I will do whatever it was that Carville did the last time he lost a bet.

The thing that continues to amaze me about this story is the people actually believe Karl Rove exposed Plame. Just for kicks ....zoom out to the big picture and think about this....

Rove masterminds Bush's 2004 reelection.....

Rove is threatened with having exposed an undercover (arguably undercover) CIA operative...

and then willingly, knowingly threatens Bush's political life by hanging on?

Sorry, Rove is not that stupid and neither is Bush. If Rove had disclosed the Plame thing, he would have stepped aside or admitted it.

I think perhaps Judy Miller was trying to disseminate something, but not what Carville is hoping we'll all believe. I think Miller was part of a plan to create a fictitious story that would help defeat the President--a story that could not be debunked as easily as we did with Rathergate, because this was to be mostly "unnamed sources" except for the Wilson/Plame input.

Right. And the left would also have us all believe that Judy Miller is in jail to protect Rove. Sure, we believe it, and we're all investing in that fine bridge in Brooklyn, too. (Yes, this is sarcasm, in case anyone wants to know.)

Well I sure hope Keller and other Times editors will be subpoenaed soon, but I doubt very much the true story has much to do with Carville's spin! Most likely people at the times were trying to ensnare Rove and let's hope it is backfiring on them! Still seems more likely that Miller learned about Plame from other source(s) and then told/asked Rove about it.....

I'm not buying this "heavy, heavy", speculation stuff or that the White House was using Miller. I think this is the beginning of a new talking point by the dems who might be realizing that they need to find themselves a way out of this phony scandal and come up with a scape-goat in one Judith Miller.
