Subject: Re: Fw: Nightline Tonight Mon., March 14, 2005

That was my son's unit. He was killed on that day 04/04/04. Here is a letter that I wrote to NightLine about the broadcast:
  Love

  Cindy Sheehan

  March 15, 2005

  To Whom it May Concern:

Imagine my distress when I turned Night Line on last night and I was confronted with the gory details of my son's murder in Sadr City, Baghdad, Iraq on 04/04/04. Imagine, also, my sorrow and rage at the side of the story that you presented to the American public.

[SNIP]

I was on the Night Line Townhall Meeting in Washington, DC on 01/27/05. After I spoke (which I think was a fluke), Ted Koppel dismissed me as being "emotional." First of all, how can I approach this discussion without emotions, MY SON WAS KILLED, AND KILLED FOR LIES? Second of all, that show was not fair and balanced and I think the conclusion "Should we stay" was foregone.

The show last night was also not fair and balanced. To see all the wives being interviewed who had not lost their husbands and to hear what "hard work" it is to be left behind when their husbands are at war. How hard to you think it is to have a child killed in an illegal and immoral war? In this "wonderful" group of families left behind, we had exactly ONE of the wives call us..she is Diane Rose who was my son's Colonel, Frank Rose's wife. The last time we heard from Diane was in October and we feel we have been left behind by anyone connected to the 2-5 Cavalry. Is support only given if your loved one stays alive? One wife was quoted as saying that Sundays were the hardest for the families left behind. My son was killed on Palm Sunday last year..how does anybody think Sundays are for my family?

Am I emotional? Yes, my first born was murdered. Am I angry? Yes, he was killed for lies and for a PNAC Neo-Con agenda to benefit Israel. My son joined the Army to protect America, not Israel. Am I stupid? No, I know full-well that my son, my family, this nation, and this world were betrayed by a George Bush who was influenced by the neo-con PNAC agenda after 9/11. We were told that we were attacked on 9/11 because the terrorists hate our freedoms and democracy...not for the real reason, becuase the Arab-Muslims who attacked us hate our middle-eastern foreign policy. That hasn't changed since America invaded and occupied Iraq...in fact it has gotten worse.

It would be so amazing if your show would put me, or another parent who lost their child on who disagrees with the war and this administration: to have just an entire show..without presenting the false side of the debate. That would take a lot of courage and integrity. I hope your program will exhibit these qualities.

I also think that Mr. Koppel owes me an apology for the rude way I was treated on his show. After I expressed myself about the war being based on lies and that the troops should be brought home immediately because the war was based on lies, I was not thanked for my comments, or my son's sacrifice. He just said to keep the discussion away from emotions. Then, the wife of a soldier who was killed was allowed to speak and she praised the policies of this deplorable and despicable administration, and she was thanked and praised by the panel.

First of all, when it comes down to it, and you really pressure them, most people here believe in some variation of America first. But, if you really want to avoid accusations and suspicions, don't talk about conspiracies, etc. Talk in terms of interests, support your arguments with facts and describe how your solution is better for you, and better for me.

Because, I'm all for America first. But I also think in terms of longterm interests. And I am also a fairly moderate person. I am not going to go live in the woods as a bark eating hermit. Nor am I going to support banning ALL immigration, even as I believe that illegal immigration is a huge problem and must be stopped.

I think you'll find, with a few exceptions of course, most people on FR believe in generally the same things, to different degrees. And in different methodologies to achieving those ends, which is where most of our differences and divisions come into play.

Just be calm, rational, support your arguments, and try to retain a vestige of morality and understanding. Because Israel is a sore point for many Jews and Christians, and Taiwan is a sore point for many other immigrants, etc. etc. And there are many Hispanic conservatives who likely support stopping illegal immigration, but would resent being told they are illegitimate citizens of this country, or that all immigration is wrong.

The Know-Nothings lost, and they will never again be a power in America, without a very strange series of events taking place. But there's still plenty of room for America first. Because we aren't citizens of the world, but citizens of our country.

"Saddam Hussein tried to survive, that is all. If you believe in his religious commitment you are very easily fooled."

Who cares why he did it? And why was he trying "to survive"? Oh, yeah, because he just got his ass kicked for invading Kuwait.

You are a stooge if you believe any of the things you are spouting. You started this preposterous line when you claimed Saddam would have reformed the citizens rights better than an elected government.

Nobody can be that stupid. Women--and everyone else--had little or no real rights under Saddam, except to do what he wanted them to do. (Cf. Iraq's Olympic Team, for just ONE minor example.)

A Pole--rhymes with "a troll."

"And who exactly makes sure they spend the money the way they're suppose to? Can't they literally live off that money?"

The IRS.

If FR really wanted to make a difference, somebody should start a 501(c)3 watch, and help the IRS track all of these agit-prop anti-American operations which get tax breaks illegally.

None of them abide by the rules.

And, hell yeah, there is a lot of money in this sort of thing.

When you start to use insults as arguments you are admitting your defeat.

You're so right. I was blown away by your brilliant reasoning.

Yes, Saddam was a reformer. If only we had left him alone Iraqis would have all the rights--and more--than they will ever have under a government they elect.

LOL

"Women--and everyone else--had little or no real rights under Saddam, except to do what he wanted them to do."

IIRC, women had the right to be picked up and raped by Saddam's boys, and their husbands had the right to be murdered if they protested.

Oh, man, the news just came on the radio. They are talking about that tormented woman in Crawford whose son died in Iraq while protecting America.

BTW, what is this thread about? ;-)

Perhaps you could educate yourself on the matter. Women did have far greater rights there than a number of ME countries that we call "friends." And if Islamic Law is made part of the new constitution, they will have far less.

And babies were thrown out of incubators in Kuwait and dissidents were fed to paper shredders.

Hey, I'm still waiting to hear from a certified Jewish person before I call Iconoclast anti-Semitic.

Tell us all about those lofty rights that Iraqi women USED TO HAVE before the mean old USA (and 40 other countries) kicked Saddam out of Kuwait.

Man, that was thoughtless of us. Then, of course, he had no choice but to deny women the right to show their heads, drive cars, walk by themselves.

Forget all those people he put in mass graves. The people he gassed and starved. We made him do all of that! He wanted to reform and give everybody rights!

We FORCED the poor bastard into being so mean! You and A Pole have convinced me with your withering logic and proofs.

Apparently it's become a way for Cindy's pals to show their solidarity. No matter how far into absurdity they have to go.

Whenever you watch the Leftists protesting against our foreign policy on C-SPAN, you can always see the radical Palis spouting the same theme as Sheehan. Of course, the MSM always edits out such speakers in favor of more "presentable" folks.

As I mentioned above, the usenet group that Cindy Sheehan posts to is composed of crackpot ex-priests and other ultra lefties. There are only 16 members.

Anyway, they are always posting to each other articles from Al Jazeer and other such reliable sources--and bitching about how our media isn't reporting the facts.

So, you think Skerry should have won?

I could not bring myself to vote for Kerry because I consider him a traitorous, indecisive, opportunist and baby killer to boot.

Do I think the situation we find ourselves in would be any worse with him in office? I doubt it.

The Republicans are much more effective when they are in the opposition role.

well, let the sarcasm flow all you want, but I'm not sure the women of Iraq will appreciate the irony when they discover that they had more rights before than they do under the new constitution. Am I saying that that is the most important thing under the sun? No. But ignoring it or sweeping it under the rug makes you lose credibility.

The right to what? Vote for Saddam? Seriously, are you insane or what?

You think the new Constitution is going to favor the Islamic radicals? You don't follow the news much, do you?

Al-Qaeda says will kill Iraq constitution drafters
08.11.2005, 02:11 PM

DUBAI (AFX) - Al-Qaeda's Iraqi branch said it would kill anyone taking part in drafting the country's new constitution or in the ensuing referendum to approve the document, according to Agence France-Presse, citing an Internet statement.

'The tribunal has decided to apply the order of Allah: kill whoever assumes the right to be a partner of God and draws up a null and void constitution ... the tribunal has also decided to ... strike at referendum voting stations,' it said.

What rights did Kurdish women have? Marsh Arab women? Even Shiite women?

You simply don't know what you are talking about. You are parroting ultra leftwing talking points. Perhaps you should sign on with Saddam's legal team.

"What should you do?
Leave the poster you are harassing alone.
That would be the wisest and smartest choice.
There have been people banned for harassment."

WHAT are you talking about?

WHAT poster am I "harassing"?

Please name this nameless poster, as I would like to clear this up at once. For the record: I am not harassing anyone, and am truly confused by your attack from nowhere.

I did not address you, yet you took it upon yourself to gratuitously write me, criticize me, and now, with this, to threaten me. You are someone I didn't write, yet you've taken the time and pains to seek me out and advise me on what my "wisest an smartest choice" should be, suggesting not-so-subtlly that I could be banned...for something I haven't done!

It is merely my opinion that you have too much time on your hands, or bring an animus whose source I am unaware of to this exchange. I would prefer to end it--AGAIN, I did not address you! Why are you bothering me?
