THE 9/11 COMMISSION IN MORTAL DANGER
The Corner on National Review Online ^ | 08/11/05 | John Podhoretz

Posted on 08/11/2005 5:57:46 PM PDT by TonyInOhio

It behaved disgracefully and in a nakedly partisan fashion, with former officials of the Clinton administration attempting to use the platform to damage the president's reelection chances. Then, after months of ludicrous conduct, out of nowhere came the brilliantly conceived and written report that set a new standard of eloquence and coherence for government documents, became a major bestseller and redeemed the commission's reputation.

Well, that didn't last long.

In a story filed at 7:10 PM, the Associated Press is now confirming all the particulars of what will now forever be called the Able Danger disaster. The 9/11 Commission staff did hear about intelligence-gathering efforts that hit pay dirt on the whereabouts of Mohammed Atta -- in 1999 -- and deliberately chose to omit word of those efforts.

And why? Because to do so might upset the timeline the Commission had established on Atta.

And why is that significant? Because the Mohammed Atta timeline established by the Commission pointedly insisted Atta did not meet with an Iraqi intelligence agent in Prague.

And why is that significant? Because debunking the Atta-Iraq connection was of vital importance to Democrats, who had become focused almost obsessively on the preposterous notion that there was no relation whatever between Al Qaeda and Iraq -- that Al Qaeda and Iraq might even have been enemies.

I was very skeptical of this Able Danger stuff about Atta, thought it was just sme way Rep. Curt Weldon was trying to sell a book. No longer. This is clearly becoming the biggest story of the summer -- the fact that, as Andy McCarthy alluded to, the "intelligence wall" set up by 9/11 Commissioner Jamie Gorelick when she was in the Justice Department did, in fact, cause the linchpin of the 9/11 attacks to evade capture by American law enforcement.

So was the staff a) protecting the Atta timeline or b) Jamie Gorelick or c) the Clinton administration or d) itself, because it got hold of the information relatively late and the staff was lazy?

More important, what will co-chairmen Tom (pound his fist on the table) Kean and Lee (look sorrowful) Hamilton do and say in the next 36 hours about this calamity?

I am 41, my friends may not be a political junkie like me, but they are raising God-fearing, patriotic kids. All is not lost! The Reagan babies are coming of age! Hold on! The 60's radicals can't hold on to power forever. John Kerry thinks he's so hip and cool. I think he's lame. He should act his age. George W. Bush is a man I can look up to, he's dignified and mature. I don't want hip in the White House.

Maybe when the media gets its collective head out of its collective butt, it might decide to take the national security failures of the Clinton administration seriously.

Wishfull thinking, we all know that that is not going to happen. This story will be dead in a month...tops. Nothing will come of Gorelick and the band of Clintonite treasonist bastards. Expecting justice for these folks is just a waste of mental energy.

How come Pukin Dog isn't here.

I did not comment because I wanted to see what I could find out from my contacts. This is not an issue that I have been following. All I know at this point from speaking with a Pentagon friend, is that this issue is big and it aint going away anytime soon. Many people want new hearings, and if Weldon keeps it up, we might just get them.

In defense of Rummy...when asked about this the other day he did say an investigation into this matter was either forthcoming or taking place at the time of his presser....

It damned well better be.

No stone shall go unturned.

"My personal opinion was the wall was erected to keep agencies from sharing China information that would have taken down the Clintons. My bet it was done at the request of Hillary Clinton it looks like from what little googling I did earlier this evening. Gorelick seems to be her protege."

There is no doubt that Gore Licker is a very effective and dangerous tool for Hillary. When we do searches on her, it is obvious that she controlled and ran the AG's office with one goal, to protect the Clintons 24/7.

There is no doubt that the China Gate problems were part of Gore Lick's walls and action. However, the PC protection for the Jihadists across the nation from Justice down to local DA's shows that the liberal lawyers were in the pockets of the Opecker Princes and thugs.

Hopefully, our side will leave China Gate and other past Clinton criminal activities out of this fight. We need to focus on what the Clintoons/Gorelicks and current rat senators did to protect the Jihadists from investigations and law enforcement during the Clintoon's reign from 1993. Sadly many of the pro Jihadist manipulators during that time were/are left over in Justice, State, CIA and the Pentagon.

Gorelick was deeply compromised by a conflict of interest obvious to the dumbest taxi driver.......and Lehman said nothing."

Didn't the Commission establish an arbitrary "start" date that omitted much of the Clinton years?

I hope so because, frankly, this is unimpresive.

Unimpressive huh?. Well let me get this straight..........

If I am reading this right, it appears Ms. Gorelick and her pal BJ, changed the way intelligence was shared in order to hide Chinese contributions to the DNC. In doing so they let Atta, and four of his fellow murdering scum, slip through the cracks and commit the most dastardly act of terrorism on American soil in the history of the world! All of this to protect Clintoon from acknowledging he had taken contributions from a foreign government, which by the way is a crime.

Well, to me Gorelick and Clinton are guilty of manslaughter, pure and simple. They erected this wall in front of our intelligence agencies in order to hide a crime and ended up killing 3000 Americans. That is murder by any DA's definition.

Yeah, you're right......unimpressive! We need a few more FReepers like you. That way collectively we can just turn our backs and keep spouting how nothing will ever happen to BJ and Hitlery 'cause it never does anyway. Yep we should just ignore it again, and again, and again and.........

From the very beginning, after it was brought to the surface Gorelick was in charge of implementing this wall of "un-cooperation", it was a slap in the face of the America people to allow her to continue on the 9/11 Commission. Looks like now, it was downright criminal to do so! Off with their heads!

Right, all that sick 'emotional pornography' on the media (Greta, etc.) is a massive waste of time!

Actually, Greta is better employed on Natalee; she's actually quite good on that kind of thing. On anything threatening to taint the Clinton legacy, however . . . well, I just don't want to hear her.

from what i have read of them this seems more like hillary's style.

I wouldn't be surprised if Hillary mapped out the desired ends, and Gorelick figured out the means.

SOME of the commissioners knew about the report that the staffer were suppose to have repressed.

Gorelick was in a position to instruct them on what to suppress before they even saw it!

"emotional pornography"

If you coined this phrase, thank you. It is perfect.
