Gaza is the appetizer. Judea and Samaria, the entree.

Gaza is the soup, Judea and Samaria, the salad, and the rest of Israel, the entree.

It is appeasement. That is our policy.

"I really hate to say this for the first time... but Bush Lied.

Bush did not lie. He spoke the truth. And even if he lied, he did so, as the commander in chief, for the good of our country.

i get the sinking feeling that the west is slowly extricating itself from support of Israel.

It's obvious that most of Europe would rather see Israel simply disappear, but now i think the political calculation in the US is turning the same way.

the sad thing is that israeli and american politicians are thinking along the same lines,

and by the way, if Israeli is pulling out of the "occupied territories" shouldn't Egypt get Gaza back and Jordan get the West Bank? hehe, not that they want the mess of the palestinians either...

"If Jenna and Barbara Bush ever want to take control of Dad's assets, at the competency hearing they should cite the above quote."

So, when it fits you, you accuse our President of incompetency.

The whole notion of "occupied land" is a fiction.

There was no Israel and no Palestinian Arab state prior to 1948. The "border" was not an internationally recognized one, rather it was the 1948 cease fire line. Egypt took the Gaza Strip and Jordan the West Bank. They "occupied" territory that was not theirs from 1948-67.

The cease fire line was the "border" for a total of 19 years of the 57 years since 1948.

The 1948 cease fire line will not be the final borders.

Current U.S. policy is that this territory is subject to negotiation, and Israel will keep a good portion of the territory beyond the 1948 cease fire line.

"In other words, he's [Bush] advocating withdrawal to halt terror attacks."

Yes, and that's a good thing.

Do you honestly believe that the terror attacks will end now?

You do NOT have to answer me...I just want you to think on that.

Appeasement of terror is a good thing?

'Many Gaza settlers will have difficulty finding work'
By DANIEL KENNEMER

A significant number of working-age Gaza evacuees are expected to have difficulty reintegrating into the labor force following disengagement, according to a study released by the Industry, Trade and Labor Ministry Wednesday.

Of the estimated 1,985 individuals targeted by the ministry's Ashkelon "one-stop" employment center specially set up in June for the evacuees, 10 percent have a relatively low level of education (less than nine years of schooling), and 55% are above the age of 45. Some 12% are both older than 45 and relatively uneducated. Among the older individuals thought to be in need of the center's assistance, a large number are farmers, and are expected to have particular difficulty.

"It won't be easy [for them], to put it mildly," said Beni Fefferman, the ministry's director of planning, research and economics.

The 8,250 Gaza Strip settlers – including 1,500 families totalling 7,500 individuals, alongside 750 singles – include 3,750 working-age individuals (20 to 65 years old), of whom four-fifths, or roughly 3,000, are participating in the work force, the report's authors said, noting that the relatively high level of participation was matched by a near-zero level of unemployment.

At the time of the study, 1,050 individuals resided in Gaza and worked elsewhere, 1,950 both lived and worked in the Gaza Strip, and an estimated 170 worked in Gaza but lived elsewhere. Of those both living and working in Gaza, 1,365 were wage-earners and 585 were self-employed. Two-thirds of the wage-earners worked in the educational sector, and a similar proportion of the self-employed were farmers or provided services for the agricultural sector (such as packing produce).

The ministry estimates that the employment center's target population counts some 1,985 individuals, including 880 wage-earners (the remaining 485 being covered by public-sector employment transfer obligations), 585 self-employed small business owners leaving either factories or agricultural enterprises, 350 evacuees expected to join the workforce due to post-disengagement economic constraints, and the 170 individuals employed in Gaza living elsewhere.

So far, however, only 130 have turned to the Ashkelon job center for assistance. "It appears that the total response on the part of evacuated residents to the assistance offered in this context is very low, particularly among those cases in which attempts at outreach were made among the target population," according to the study.

Four-fifths of those assisted have been directed to the Employment Service, the remainder to Mati – The Center for Fostering Entrepreneurship. The Ashkelon center offers clinics geared towards teaching evacuees how to successfully relocate and remarket their businesses. For other settlers interested in pursuing new careers, there are various training courses, operated and funded by the ministry.

"Bush did not lie. He spoke the truth. And even if he lied, he did so, as the commander in chief, for the good of our country."

Which is it? This is not good for our country. Gaza will become a new base for terrorists. This is a win for Hamas and Hezbollah.

"What's the great difference between the first comment and the post above? Isn't that a tad legalistic?"

No, it was a typographical error, a sentence fragment that ended up in the wrong place.

I asked the Admin Mod to correct it.

You're reading WAAY too much into this.

Yup. I saw an ad in Newsweek a few weeks ago, with a map of Israel and specifically the range of Katushka rockets which the Palestinians already have. Once they gain the heights of Judea and Sumera, 70 % of Israel's population and industrial centers will be vulnerable to those rockets. This is clearly intolerable.

OK, if we're going to call it for what it really is, then this is what it is: The Bush plan.

Now THAT is the sad Truth, sigh.
