Mother's Grief-Fueled Vigil Becomes Nexus for Antiwar Protesters (And The Correction!)

Correction Appended

CRAWFORD, Tex., Aug. 12 - This is not the place to expect a sighting of Viggo Mortensen, the star of "The Lord of the Rings." Or at least it wasn't when President Bush began his annual vacation here earlier this month.

But something has happened to Crawford over the last week. The sleepy summer air has been punctured by a blast of antiwar energy, with carloads of activists appearing every afternoon to join a vigil begun by the mother of a soldier who died in Iraq.

Flowers are delivered by the dozen at Camp Casey, as the muddy outpost established by the mother, Cindy Sheehan, near the Bush ranch is now called. White crosses have been hammered into the dirt, pink banners strewn across the trees, the police posted at bends in the road to wave gawkers along.

When Mr. Mortensen drove up the dusty lane unannounced on Thursday to huddle with Ms. Sheehan in a roadside trailer, it was just one more jarring sight in a small town accustomed to seeing mostly the reporters and buttoned-down administration officials it has come to know over the last five years.

No one has been more challenged by the round-the-clock campsite than Mr. Bush, who sped past in his motorcade for the first time on Friday and, as expected, did not stop to grant Ms. Sheehan's request for a meeting.

But even before Ms. Sheehan arrived, this sort of challenge was not entirely an unexpected one for Mr. Bush, who by the end of this summer will have spent more time away from the White House than any other president in history...

exactly, I remember when i was growing up some kids getting killed in a car crash, and the parents had to get an ok from city council to put up flowers and stuff where the accident happened alongside the highway.

Shhhhh.... Its a secret..... While the howling moonbats are "roughing" it camping out at "Camp Casey", Mama Shehan is commuting to and from her throngs of admirers in a conversion van (gift from Soros?) to her HOTEL! room where she holds court nightly with the press crapweasels. Then, at 0-dark-thirty, she slinks back to the camp and makes the rounds re-assuring her "followers" that she is in it for the "duration".

Yeah, right, I thought she was a fake and phony.

Now I am ab-so-f***king-lutly convinced. Witchipoo is now OFFICIALLY on my S**t list.

MSM crapweasels don't say word one about Witchipoo's lodging antics...

Semper Furious

It already has backfired, to some extent. Last week, when Juan Williams was asked if Cindy was now the face of the Dem Party, he was visibly shaken and sputtered a whole lot of nos. LOL

Would any of you be out there chanting "We Dont Care" like the pro-Bushies were this last weekend?

Gee .. did Cindy tell you that in her blog to Mickey Moore?

Crawl back to DU, troll.

The president met with Cindy a year ago and kissed her on the cheek.

She is not grieving, she's using her dead son for her own fame, fortune, and propaganda.

The man who shot his gun, isn't a "drunk" and broke no laws. He didn't shoot at anyone and shot on his own property. Are you against gun ownership and use ?

Cindy Sheehan and the barking moonbats who set up those crosses, used the names of dead men, for their own sick purpose, without the permission of most of their family members. They dishonored those fallen heroes by using their names in an attack on the president and this nation.

Why did you welcome the troll to FR? Do you agree with the codswallop he posted?

Oh my how quickly you leap to eat your own. And over welcoming me to Freerepublic? That speaks volumes just by itself. LOL well I would stay but apparently FreeRepublic is too thin skinned to allow free speech. I would love to debate, even with the namecallers, but since my posts were thrown into the Memory Hole it's apparent that dissent is not allowed here. Think about what that means folks. And is the irony completely lost on you?

Sigh, try and debate. Look at her foot massages, her getting dolled up for the camera. The utter goofiness of it all. The media whoring.

Then debate.

You aren't a Conservative. You posted obscenities, which are not allowed to be posted here; unlike over at your beloved DU and that's one reason your posted were removed.

You can't stay...you'll be banned by the time I post this.

And no, I didn't " eat one of my own"; I complained to your welcoming committee. We don't welcome TROLLS here.

Free speech isn't allowed on DU. Heck, there's far more dissent allowed here, than there, but there are always limits to free speech and you crossed the line.

Oh darn, and with us still "hungry" too! Now we'll never know what it is that we are supposed to worry about. Something about ironing or something! :-) (or was it irony?)

LOL...he'll be back as soon as he changes the 74 to a 75 at the end of his nic. That's how he came back; he replaced the 73, with the 74. Poor baby didn't like that his posts were pulled. Of course, anyone who calls the president a curse word plus the male generative member and praises Cindy Sheehan, doesn't deserve to have his posts stay up, nor have posting privileges here.

From various comments I've read on Free Republic, it appears that many Gen X types believe all Boomers were dope-smoking, war-protesting, commune-living hippies. The fact is only a tiny percentage of Boomers bore any resemblance to that image. Of course the lib media played it up like every youth at that time was a Noam Chomsky wannabe.

In reality there were far more like my older brother who served in Vietnam, hunted, played sports, drank beer, avoided drugs, got jobs, had children, and got on with their lives. That image holds true for even most of the Dems I know from that era. I NEVER met anyone at that time who was considered to be a hippie. Hippies like the Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers were in the extreme minority where I come from or almost nonexistent.
