ATHENS, Greece -- An autopsy on the body of the co-pilot of a Cyprus airliner that crashed killing all 121 on board shows he was alive when the plane went down, a private Greek television channel has reported.

...more:

Officials on Tuesday said they had found only the exterior container of the cockpit voice recorder from the plane, hampering investigative efforts into the accident's cause.

The device's internal components were ejected from the container when the plane crashed into a mountainous region north of Athens on Sunday, Akrivos Tsolakis, head of the Greek airline safety committee, told The Associated Press.

Was Ron Brown's body on board?

Was their O2 supply mobile?

Probably, If you peek in the compartment where the Stews store their Mask Demo equopment, you often see a green Oxy bottle in there.

Everyone else unconscious, but amazingly a "pilot" and his girlfriend were left conscious. Fishy.

Well, remember this was after the initial intercept (previously reported at 34,000 feet), and it could be that the plane descended enough by then for them to awaken, and/or use the portable oxygen bottle to get to the cockpit.

These are known people, employees of the airline, and I've seen no suggestion they were suicidal.

The Richard Jewel case has cured me of blameing first responders.

...thought the black boxes were supposed to survive explosions and, um, plane crashes.

Could someone have taken it out in-flight? They're protected from crashes, but from human tampering? Maybe not...

A lot of very unlikely things had to occur for this crash to go down as speculated. It's possibly true...but I believe the current thoeries are seemingly less and less likely.

Well, yes, but it would just about have to be an unlikely event, because air travel is so safe and routine that all the unlikely situations are prevented.

Even in the case of a decompression its odd to me why the co-pilot could not have gotten his mask on in time and descended. Some reports say you have 15 seconds, but that is only the case in a sudden and total de-pressurization. The F16s reported no big holes in the plane, and a small hole would not depressurize suddenly.

In fact most people can hold your breath for over a minute after exhaleing.

The Chief Pilot's body not being immediatly found nor seen by the F16s is very odd. Was he in back dealing with a troublemaker and he had no time to return to the cockpit, or did the people in the cockpit seen by the f16s moved his body to get at the controls?

And why didn't two in the cockpit just pick up the mic and talk to the F16s/tower?

It almost sounds like some kind of rapid poisoning - perhaps from the air conditioning system system that the crew reported a problem with. We have to wait for the tox screens for that.

Hmmm I've seen that scenario played out in a movie... Ummmmmmmm...

The First Airplane movie.. the Copilot was "Slumped over".. that wasn't the copilot.. that was the autopilot.. he was slumped over because he was deflating.. "They found a flight attendants body in the cockpit wreckage", cause she was inflating the autopilot.. *lol*

Well it does seem a little odd... first the crash itself... plane fly around for two hours with no contact then crashes and the only thing to tell you what happen is a black box voice recorder that breaks apart and the recorder part is missing and a text message that get recanted after that kid that clamed he got the text message show’s up with a smashed face at the prosecutor's office saying he fell……you got to admit it’s all a little odd

Nektarios Voutas, who allegedly claiming a cousin on the jet sent him a text message, fell at prosecutor's office in Thessaloniki Tuesday.

Well, this sure is interesting. The black box will tell when the masks came down?

A lot of very unlikely things had to occur for this crash to go down...

You will find that is true for 95% of crashes.

i thought those things were designed to take tremendous abuse.

Slamming into a mountain side at over 300 MPH is defined as "Super Duper tremendous abuse", which is more severe, so sometimes they have problems.

I see nothing to suggest he didn't fall. I think if someone hit me in the head with a hatchet I would fall too.

There were much more thorough pics of the crash site on Chicom TV. Nothing was burning in the debris path. Depending on telephoto range the only actual fire was not very big and was over the edge of the bluff, apppeared to me to be as much brush as plane burning, and could have been started by a runaway engine or some other hot piece. I saw only one firetruck at the site and one tanker/chopper cleaning up. The fuselage was far too shredded to burn at all. What's missing re the F16 crews account is how the Helios got from 35K to the ground, ie straight, spiral, stall, etc?

Ever seen Finding Nemo? Fish sound remarkably like Albert Brooks.

With an overtone of grinding teeth. (I really hate Finding Nemo -- pretty much every character bugs the crap out of me.)
