Giant Sinkhole Continues To Grow, Scientists To Study It

The mysterious giant sinkhole in Smith County is getting bigger.

It's now up to 80 feet in diameter. And water has started to bubble up from the bottom.

It has become quite an attraction for the public. And TX-DOT says that's dangerous. Crews have put up more barriers to keep people from getting too close and possibly hurting themselves.

The sinkhole formed Sunday morning, and it was close to 100 feet deep. Since then, more pavement and dirt have fallen in.

TX-DOT plans to send out scientists in the next couple of days to figure out the cause.

Excellent, I want on this ping list. Giant sinkholes are about the best relief from the "real news" that I can imagine.

OR Cracker Barrel could send a tanker of their Chipped Beef recipe. Nevermind, it'd have to then be designated a toxic waste cleanup zone.

CLAUDE, TX -- A massive crack in the earth opened up last week in Claude, Texas and its creating a stir among geologists.

I don't know where Claude, Tx is...
But if it's anywhere near the Mexican border, it COULD be very similar to the mine subsidence problems encountered by PennDOT engineers.

...and it drained what use to be a pond.

I'll bet Mother Nature didn't get permission to drain that pond from the Corp. of Engineers.
