It's a personal injury case -- the claim is that the rancher harmed them. If he did (and I guess that's what the trial found), then illegals have just as much right to sue over bodily harm as anybody else.

Read the article again, it was a jury trial. I can almost 100% guarantee you it was a hispanic jury that found in their favor. Remember you dont have to have a unanimous vote in a civil proceeding. The "Southern Poverty Law Center" is, in many ways, much more insideous than the ACLU. This Morris Dees character is Marxist through and through; and he has gotten very wealthy, primarily from donations, along with the SPLC.

Unfortunately, the Reno Justice Department used the SPLC a great deal for advice about all sorts of things like Immigration, guns, etc. This use by the feds gave the SPLC a certain legitimacy that, in my opinion, they certainly do not deserve. You see them quoted in all sorts of publications now, and believe me, they are not protecting anyone's rights.
