(NY-AP) August 19, 2005 - The story of a missing Alabama teenager in Aruba had CNN searching for a plan-'C' last night. Bob Costas, the occasional fill-in on the network's "Larry King Live," refused to anchor Thursday night's show because it was primarily about the search for Natalee Holloway.
Costas has released a statement saying that he suggested alternatives for the show, but that "producers preferred the topics they had chosen." His manager would not say what Costas didn't like about the topic.
The show's senior executive producer says that Costas was uncomfortable with the subject matter, and that the decision was mutual because of that.
Chris Pixley had to fill in at the last minute on a show where seven of the ten guests talked about the missing girl.
Just as was the case with Lacey Peterson, I change the station whenever the words "Natalee" and "Aruba" are mentioned.
Because the media insists you should care...just like you should care about Britney's belly stretch marks. BTW, I didn't know JLo got knocked up. Now that's hugh and series.

This is what i could find for Sgt. Maupin. It might be a good idea to have some banners for him at the Crawford pro Military rally coming up.
I think the point is about Costas's attitude and that he'd probably jump on another over-played story...Saint Cindy...because it fits his agenda. (I agree that the Natalee story is way overexposed...although I didn't know she was from a rich family).
I followed the Scott Peterson case a little more closely just because the idea of murdering a pregnant woman was disgusting. You couldn't help but follow it because it was on 24-7 *LOL* I'm almost sure the reason why I hate Fox News is because I hate watching repeat info.
You're very wrong about Costas.
I am glad he chose not to involve himself in helping a network sensationalize this case more than it already has been.
NEWSFLASH: JLO is carrying my child.
If I was rich, I'd probably take advantage of every privilege to find my child. I can't fault her for that one.
snort!
WHAT ABOUT IT MADE HIM FEEL UNCOMFORTABLE? It's NOT about HIM...it's about a missing young woman and about three people who know where she is. Why woudl that make him feel uncomfortable?
Costas. never was any good.
Hey, it could've been you, but you already found someone (and I'm happy for you).
LOL lord have mercy.
NH ping
Same here, Clemenza. It just baffles me how anyone can sit there and watch hours of non-news and speculation about these cases for months on end...
Yeah, but at least the Mets were victorious.
Here is the thing, I turn off my TV, but that does not provide the satisfaction like telling someone I do not wish to do a show. Wow, how liberating. I do not know Costas reasons but I admire his back bone on this issue.
I am going to gather emails, names and post them on this thread if folks feel like me and wish to see updates of our own POW, the only ONE, we must not forget him. He has a mother, just like Ms. Twitty. Ms. Maupin has been gracious and I am sure each time the door bell rings she wonder's if it is news of her son. I would like for the powers to be to give us updates.
Better yet, put together a team, walk in the last days of now SGT Maupin, do the reporting that I feel can be done that is if they break away from their manicure.
Bob, if you get a chance to read this, I salute you!
TV is crap. Do I need to see Whorealdo with his chest hair exposed to the world on tv???
"Heart Of My Heart", I love that melody
"Heart Of My Heart" brings back a memory
When we were kids on the corner of the street
We were rough 'n ready guys
But oh, how we could harmonize
"Heart Of My Heart" meant friends were dearer then
Too bad we had to part
I know a tear would glisten
If once more I could listen
To that gang that sang "Heart Of My Heart"
"Heart Of My Heart", I love that melody
