PHILADELPHIA (AP) Philadelphia police announced Saturday that they have charged the 25-year-old former boyfriend of LaToyia Figueroa with her death.
Stephen Poaches, of West Philadelphia, the missing pregnant woman's former boyfriend and the father of her unborn baby, was charged with the murder of the 24-year-old woman.
Figueroa has been missing for a month.
Philadelphia police recovered her remains early Saturday in nearby Chester, located about 13 miles southwest of Philadelphia.
When Poaches was arrested in Chester, police said he was wearing a bullet proof vest and was carrying a pistol.
LaToyia Figueroa's father, Melvin Figueroa, said he was relieved that an arrest had been made.
"Now she can rest in peace," he said. "All I want is justice with that peace."
Figueroa, who was five months' pregnant when she disappeared and already the mother of a young girl, was last seen on the afternoon of July 18 in West Philadelphia. Police received a missing persons report July 21, McClane said.
The remains were recovered in a grassy, partially wooded lot near homes and a road in Chester. The area was cordoned off by yellow police tape Saturday morning.
A few dozen members of the Figueroa family and supporters arrived at the scene shortly after daybreak, clustering close to the police tape and embracing each other.
They declined to comment to reporters.
Relatives and friends, who have papered the city with flyers and held large-scale searches for any sign of Figueroa, had just marked the one-month anniversary of her disappearance. A reward fund for information had reached $100,000.
My, my.......looks like us ladies are looking for a BIG Saturday night huh? :-)
Hardyharhar! Actually, I'm waiting for dinner--dear hubby's bringing a pizza home, then we'll watch a movie. I prefer watching them at home, actually--fewer kibitzers (unless the cats chime in), no gum on my shoes, no coke down the back of shirt, and no neck-aches from trying to see around someone's big hair.
Now, Howlin..It's not night yet!.. ;)
Mine has a band job tonight that didn't require my presence so, for the first time in weeks, I'm HOME ALONE (still on baby watch).......just the dogs and cats for company.
And, FGS, do NOT tell anybody!
Truth be told, as much as we appreciate their taking us out, we'd be just as happy to throw a couple of steaks on the grill, with grilled veggies, portobello mushrooms, baked potato, and a nice Cabernet - mmmm ;-)
BTW - we're still newlyweds - we've only been married 15 years!
May you enjoy many more!
Happy Anniversary!
My guess is this was for an abortion and she backed-out.
Leaving him with one alternative - to murder both of them.
Was he trying to keep Latoyia's pregnancy from his current girlfriend? That's what it sounds like.
The $300 for the doctor's visit sounds like a doctor that performs abortions. Don't look for the MSM to tell the truth about this angle, if it is accurate.
No, but both women had knowledge there was something wrong with their spouses and looked the other way.
This happens to both men and women - they want to believe so badly that there isn't something wrong with the one they love that they ignore fatal character flaws.
No, I don't get the impression she
was going for an abortion....just
her usual checkup.
They must have been doing a pay as
you go, type thing. And that day,
neither of them had the money for
the checkup. That's the way I
understood it.
Yes indeedy! I'm always geared up for
a BIG SATURDAY NIGHT!!
Sitting at the pc, and from the next room,
listening to hubby yawn, then snor as he
"watches" tv! LOL!
From what I've read the other girl punched Latoyia in the stomach. The other girlfriend knew she was pregnant. I believe this ex-boyfriend that killed her occasionally hit Latoyia as well.
I don't understand with the abuse and all these other women (2 other girlfriends beside Latoyia) that Latyoia would still hang out with him. She was last seen alive with this guy coming from a routine doctor's visit.
Not sure what you meant by that one, OF... Can you explain it a bit more???
Cyber doesn't need me defending him (her?), but even I got what he was saying.
The victim set herself up in a very dangerous situation.
Kind of like climbing out on a ledge, it's not the victims fault if someone pushes her off, but she did have the option of using a sidewalk, and shose not to.
No one can pry it out of me w/a crowbar!! LOL!!!
(Let your guard down, and that baby will be on the waaayyyyy!!)
It's your stepdaughter that's expecting, right?
You obviously do not know sarcasm when you read it. I was responding to the blaming of victims that some on this site seem to do. To them, if a woman doesn't completely have her act together then she asked for her death. The mention of Lacy Peterson was to put light on the fact that Lacy was married and in what she and her family thought was a stable relationship with her husband. Lighten up a little.
a certain lifestyle doesn't guarantee that one live a long, happy, healthy life, but it can better one's chances...

i don't know if Lacey Peterson or Lori Hacking could have made better choices in selecting husbands... and i'm not blaming any of the victims for their own deaths... but we women do have a lot more power than we are often willing to exercise... or perhaps we don't even realize we have that power to begin with
even if LaToyia had not been killed, she didn't make very good choices for herself or her already-born child... my saying that no way means that i think she deserved to die... i don't think she deserved to die... i'm interested in getting young women to know that they have more power than they realize... (i'm a counselor at the local Crisis Pregnancy Center... i talk with many a young woman who gives up so much for a guy who does not love her or their baby.)
i suspect most of us women here do know what i mean... i am very guilty of having made terrible choices in my early 20's... Praise God i didn't lose my life over any of them... but i did lose some dignity and even character--which has had to be rebuilt over the last 15 or so years...
