'Christian' Pat Robertson calls for the assassination of Venezuela's President Chavez

hristian Broadcasting Network's The 700 Club host Pat Robertson ... founder of the Christian Coalition of America has called for the assassination of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Frias.

In a direct transcript of his August 22 The 700 Club broadcast Robertson clearly says:

There was a popular coup that overthrew him [Chavez]. And what did the United States State Department do about it? Virtually nothing. And as a result, within about 48 hours that coup was broken; Chavez was back in power, but we had a chance to move in. He has destroyed the Venezuelan economy, and he's going to make that a launching pad for communist infiltration and Muslim extremism all over the continent.

You know, I don't know about this doctrine of assassination, but if he thinks we're trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.

It's a whole lot cheaper than starting a war ... and I don't think any oil shipments will stop. But this man is a terrific danger and the United ... this is in our sphere of influence, so we can't let this happen.

We have the Monroe Doctrine, we have other doctrines that we have announced. And without question, this is a dangerous enemy to our south, controlling a huge pool of oil, that could hurt us very badly.

We have the ability to take him out, and I think the time has come that we exercise that ability.

We don't need another $200 billion war to get rid of one, you know, strong-arm dictator. It's a whole lot easier to have some of the covert operatives do the job and then get it over with.

Imagine he said the same thing about Pol Pot -BEFORE- the millions died.

Sometimes I think he can't decide whether he's a man of the cloth or a politician.

You sound like they should be different. Personally I think that our politicians should be more pastors and church elders.

The Left actually needs more martyrs. The type of people attracted to leftist nonsense are also of sound enough mind to under the example.

"Mussolini was Italian too, you think he'd answer anything but "yes sir" if Hitler told him to level the Vatican."

Suicide for Il Duce...

The RCC superceded even the authority of Mussolini, who would have been hung 4 years early had he followed such a directive.

IF the Pope had spoken up against Nazism, Hitler would have indeed found himself in a conundrum.

Chavez would be a martyr and someone else from his leftist party would take control, with more popular support.

It doesn't matter how he's taken out. He'll be a martyr no matter what because of his own rhetoric, blowhard speeches and the sheep who follow/listen to him. That's the way the leftist, collectivist mind functions. Case in point, Che Guevara. Killed by Bolivian peasants, not USA CIA assassin teams. Leon Trotsky, killed by fellow Russian communists (Stalin), not USA CIA assassins.

I am a christian and I believe Mugabe should be assassinated.

While tragic that someone must be killed in order to stop their genocidal behavior, sometimes it has to happen, I agree.

And why aren't there human shields in Zimbabwe, might I ask?

How many would have been saved if a religious leader called for the death of hitler, stalin, or pol pot?

Sometimes I think he can't decide whether he's a man of the cloth or a politician

That's because he's neither.

He's a Christian businessman with a television show. Yeah, he's got his law degree, but he's primarily a businessman.

No, ONLY those who openly align themselves with killer terrorist, like this dipstick has done...Hitler ANNOUNCED what he wanted to do..wrote it in his book...but the liberterian types of the day said, "He doesn't mean it...he was just upset about being in jail for having tried to kill the president" Other thoughtfull types of the day, said, "Allow Germany to rearm, then she will not feel threatened and thus will not wish to go to war."

And like now, they called for letting the League of Nations deal with the problem....all the while, Hitler grew stonger...and millions died.

"We have the Monroe Doctrine"

You have a good idea Pat but the Monroe Doctrine specifically warrants from meddling in the Western Hemisphere by European counties, not idiots like Chavez.

The Monroe Doctrine is a warning against meddling by anyone from outside the hemisphere. In this case, it is applicable toward chinese influence over the Chavez regime.

So God suggested assassinating Chavez? I thought it was Pat Robertson...
my bad...

No problem. I just suggest you read posts more carefully before responding next time.
I said that God called for the assassination and decimation of the enemies of Israel in the OT.

So claiming this make Robertson a hypocrite as a Christian isn't necessarily correct.
Unless of course you don't believe Christ is the Lord.

He is a wannabe politician.

He's right, really. However, a guy like Pat Robertson should NEVER say such a thing publicly. Unless perhaps it was somewhat tongue-in-cheek but I've never really known Robertson to have a sense of humor.

I'm sorry, I disagree, I do not follow Pat, but what he said was spot on. Chavez is a Communist and as such an athiest and so from the viewpoint of a "man of the cloth" he is Evil. I think his point is, kill one man now or thousands later. From an Ethics viewpoint what would be your choice?
