Courageous mother did not deserve criticism
Columbus Dispatch ^ | Tuesday, August 23, 2005 | CINDY WESTLING

Posted on 08/23/2005 4:51:15 AM PDT by Loyal Buckeye

Fox News has hit a new low. I didn’t think it was possible. To insinuate that a grieving mother is a communist, a wacko or has a political agenda just shows how evil this cable network is.

Cindy Sheehan is a hero who has every right to demand answers to why her son and so many other Americans lost their lives for a lie. Our servicemen pledge to serve and defend our nation.

They do so out of a sense of moral obligation and a love for this country. Leaders of this administration and especially President Bush have shown time and again that they view themselves as above reproach. Our soldiers’ lives and dedication are expendable.

That Bush, who presents himself as a man of faith, can’t reach out to a fellow human as a good Christian, tells me that he is no Christian. God help us all.

This is something I don't understand. If you have a son or daughter, who enlists, it is wrong to say they were a stupid tool.

This woman acts like her son was an idiot. He was of age, he enlisted, he reenlisted, he volunteered for this duty. What does it say of her mothering that she thinks at his age he was too stupid to make these decisions for himself? Was he still a 10 year old in her eyes?

My cousin's children enlisted against her wishes. (She lost family already in war, she knows what it is) She cried a little, for mothers worry, but she would NEVER insinuate they were so stupid they couldn't make this decision for themselves.

And if, God forbid, anything happens to them, she won't run around screaming at the president like he ran over her 5 year old in the street.

Uh...no....it means that Fox was perhaps the only major tv network willing to tell the truth about her.

Oh and by the way, she is not a grieving mother; rather, she is using her son's sacrifice as part of her political agenda.

You don't send your kids. They volunteer to go, if that is their calling in life.

What are Bush's daughters supposed to do? Dress the troops? They are fashion majors, for goodness sake.

Cindy is no hero. If she has questions about the death of her son she should ask them and get it over with. She has made her quest into a circus like atmosphere which took away any legitimacy as far as I am concerned. Fox News may have called her on it and I guess the truth hurts. For a group that "demands the truth" I find the writers opinion of FNC to be somewhat hypocritical.

Cindy Sheehan, not the only mother who has lost a son in Iraq, is the one the extreme political left (in agreement with the Jihadis, Hamas, the insurgents and the terrorists) is using as a propaganda tool in treason against our government and our armed forces, which are, if some people haven't noticed, at war against these very enemies.

A lot of other grieving mothers are patriots who haven't lost their minds.

What I don't see in this discussion is any recognition by posters that support for the war IS waning in this country - not among the extremist fringe whose voices are recorded here, apparently, but in the heartland. (Even in that part of the heartland which adheres most firmly to "slave state values".) This is a troubling development for those of us who believe in a true syphrosynistic conservative agenda. Swift-boating Cindy Sheehan isn't going turn this tide. The polls today are very troubling.

Well then, if being one of those three things and being a grieving mother are mutually exclusive, then it follows logically that a mother need only become a communist, a wacko or have a political agenda and her kids will be imortal!

[Our servicemen fight] out of a sense of moral obligation and a love for this country.

True, and it is a shame you cannot relate Cindy.

Leaders of this administration and especially President Bush have shown time and again that they view themselves as above reproach.

...As opposed to respomding to every lie, ignorant accusation or stupid statement, that is.

I guess if someone disagrees with Sheehan your not supposed to give them airtime. Fox is just as bad as any other network. Finally today they admitted that there hasn't been ANY coverage of opposing views, but their working on getting some film.

I know. I am getting in before the zot.

Isn't it amazing how these libs can come over here, talk about "swift-boating Cindy Sheehan" red"slave state" values, neo-cons, denigrate Fox, denigrate the "extremist" fringe they find here, call for the president to send his daughters to war, and somehow think that calling themselves a conservative, TWICE, will fool us?

It's sort of like Hillary and Dean insisting they ARE Christians.
