Rally officially to start at 1 pm Crawford time. Oh how I wish I were there!
I posted the following on another thread yesterday. More support coming to Crawford:
I was listening to Laura's radio show on the way home this evening (replay from earlier). I believe the fill-in host's name was Dan Patrick. He was speaking w a Mom and Dad that lost their son in Iraq (he saved 7 of his comrades before he died). They are even more supportive of the Pres and war than before their son died and were just getting on a plane in Oregon to fly to TX to be at Crawford tomorrow. I got choked up listening to them and have goose bumps as I type now. Wish I could be there w all of you great FRiends. Give 'em h*ll (in a nice FReeper kind of way, of course ;-) I'll be checking for reports tomorrow and saying a prayer for a succssful, safe day for all of you. I'll keep FNC on, too - hoping they get a crew out there to cover you. God Bless you all!
Seattle Conservative...how lonely is it for you in Seattle? I live in Abilene, TX. Not many activists here, because there isn't much to activate over, as the vast majority here are inherently Conservative.
God bless you for your service, and He has blessed you with wonderful memories of a loving mom.
Actually, I have travelled and FReeped with the H.O.T. chapter twice, once in Austin and once in Crawford. It's just that I can't get there this time.
Incidentally, I was born in Fort Worth in the Harris Methodist Hospital. Lived there until teenage years (actually in Haltom City), and consider it my hometown, still, even after all these years out in West Texas (San Angelo, Anson and Abilene). Also love West Texas. I'm torn. LOL
I am in tears reading your post, Casloy, because I have so recently done these same things and felt this same anguish. A mother's feelings while her son is deployed cannot be adequately described with words.
God bless your Mom, and God bless you for your service in Viet Nam.
It is so important that this is done....I am stunned at the families who have lost loved ones who are coming to join you.
Sometimes, at a protest, certain folks hold on to the mic to long...and others...with the real story to tell...get lost in the shuffle.
Every single one of these families, many probably buying airplane tickets they cannot afford as there was not a long time to plan this out....and tickets are HORRIFIC when purchased close to flight time..NEED to be acknowledged in a way that is ongoing and upfront.
These are FAMILIES and folks who have LOST what cindy has lost...a FAMILY MEMBER in this good and JUST war on terror.
Perhaps MORE than a hand raise is needed.
Put up a sign..a BIG ONE...in front of these families....stating that everyone present has a loved one who made the ultimate sacrifice....Give them a HUGE BLACK PEN to write in BOLD LETTERS the names of their loved ones on the sheet or poster board...
It is THESE FOLKS whom I love...because of all of us...there will be large and hurtful space in their families where a much loved person used to be.
Help them HONOR their loved ones!
Thanks!
Plus..should the press happen by..this sign will be out front and up close and HIGHLY VISIBLE.
And do ya think someone could be available to film the protest from the front...so that copies could be given or sold, whatever, to these families...it would be such a memory of their heartfelt journey to HONOR their and OUR fallen HEROS!
This same thing could be done for folks who have family members currently serving, as well.!
I LOVE THESE FELLOW AMERICANS!
And I love all of you, too!
"Seattle Conservative...how lonely is it for you in Seattle?"
It can be at times - especially when the DIMS steal elections. I don't go into the liberal belly of the beast - la la land central Seattle much. Luckily I live in one of the burbs that leans fairly conservative (Dino Rossi's district when he was a state senator). Hard to be lonely w FR and FReepers! It helps a great deal and is nice to know there are so many like-minded, intelligent, patriotic folks across the country!
All you FRiends attending the rally today - go kick some liberal booty (figuratively, speaking, of course ;-)
FNC just reported that Sheehan's supporters will hold a 'somber event honoring the military today' Bleaaaahhhhhhhhh!
MSNBC had a fair report on the protests in Crawford.
I'm surprised that I'm surprised. I haven't been on any of her websites b/c she's a ranting, hate-filled loon who disrespects President Bush, our troops, and her son Casey. She sickens me.
I'm too far from Texas to make the rally, but I'm grateful to everyone there who's making a stand for our troops in harm's way.
Drink plenty of water, everybody, and stay safe!
Even my cat suffered for it. (poisoned)
Actually, if I may, I think the best approach to her "request for dialog" is to demand to speak with her leaders, not her. She is clearly a prop for them.
Okay, heading to the Killeen Walmart in the hopes that I'll meet up with somebody, anybody... Or my family and I will be a patriotic caravan of one... We depart Killeen Walmart at 1045, if there are any stragglers still out there...
Bump for you to read post #230 here. Republic has a very important suggestion.
Beautifully written tribute to your mother and her love for you.
Multiply your story by hundreds of thousands and we will have a better idea of the real "legacy" of Vietnam. Anti-American protestors [I do not call them anti-war, because they are only against Americans at war] will never again have the power that they had in the 1970s. Too many Americans have a lifetime of memories of the treatment our troops got back then, and have vowed to themselves "it won't happen again."
Sad to say, but you are quite right about them. They are of a mindset very little different from those refusing the Iraqi's and Afghani's to freedom and the choice of self-determination.
