She jogged right back onto track. That or they adjusted the track. Hard to tell.

From another forum:

"STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED - FEMA & HS

FOX FCN just broke in with BREAKING ALERT at 6:40 pm CDT:

President Bush has just declared a STATE OF EMERGENCY in Louisiana. And the Feds are taking charge right now to oversee the evacuation & preparations!

I think she said that Homeland Security will be in charge and FEMA will be coordinating things but maybe I heard it wrong. "

I really did think the feds were involved in this one. They have probably been scratching there heads for the way in which this is being delt with localy in NO.

NHC guy on 870 AM radio said animals are leaving the coast. "Flocks of snakes and turtles".

Bad sign. I'm lurking out here in earthquake country. Animals get very agitated before quakes. Either their senses are more attuned than ours or God is taking care of His creatures. Maybe both.

Good luck to everybody out there.

That was a terrific little book...lots of "useless" information!

It's taking the wnw jog..942 mil...

Always trust the animals...when they start moving inland..time to follow them.

We're watching history. Amazing.

I do not know if you know what you are talking about or not, but you sound like a pro to me, and if I lived in the NO area I sure would be listining to you.

Isn't this unprecidented?

Yep............... I have a female cat, 14 years old, she stays outside most of the time except in the winter (Pennsylvania). But whenever there is a serious thunderstorm about to come, the storm still being far away, she comes into the house. She's quite accurate.

I would suspect the animals are alerted by the change in air pressure...four-footed barometers, if you will.

Apparently the adults are truly taking over now

They couldn't get Jeb, but they got the next best thing for a hurricane situation.

I hope that people get enough sense to get out of that bathtub called New Orleans.

Did you convince your family to evacuate?

I was just online with some friends of mine in Houma. "It's going to turn," "they never hit here," "we left last time and nothing happened"... all the usual stuff. The same 'tude, I fear, prevails throughout southeast Louisiana.

There is a little known tactic that gets everyone's attention during critical evacuation orders--cut the electricity in advance of the storm. Folks will take notice without A/C and lights.

Yes, but somebody had to take charge before a whole lot of people got caught unaware. The imbeciles in charge here would have made matters worse.

That last little tropical storm that hit NO(can't remember the name), people were screaming and complaining about no electricity, ONE day later in NO. Complaints about pumps not working and not enough generators to pump the water out, and that was a TS.

It's astounding how big this storm has gotten since this morning.

It's also getting much more organized than it was late this afternoon... What a disaster this is turning out to be.
