They should be jailed forever or castrated (surgically, not chemically).
Add to that sewing their mouths shut and cutting off their hands.
Sorry about that. I was clearly struck by a case of galloping literalism this am :)
I think you are closer to the truth than Geraldo
You left out that he's also a lawyer. Need I say more?
That is fine with me. The theory behind removing their testicles (castration) is that they no longer have the "urge" to do anything sexually.
Many cases of mental illness involve getting one's thinking patterns stuck in a rut. That's why shock treatment has been effective in extreme cases, although there are often relapses. Modern drugs have helped some who have formerly required shock treatments, failed others abominably. If they can break out of the thinking pattern they are stuck in, they can often recover and sometimes have recurrent relapses. It is possible to rewire the brain circuitry by using ones thoughts, rejecting intrusive ones, and recover. There is a famous case of a brilliant schizophrenic who did exactly that after all medical remedies at the time, including insulin shock treatment, failed. I can't remember his name, but there is a documentary film and book about him.
Some of it starts past middle age which suggests changes in the brain and one's sexual history (or inadequacy of) prior to that.
The bottom line is that nobody, including me, knows what causes it for certain. They are only beginning to find out what works, partially works, and doesn't work.
And I believe child molesters & rapists should be castrated!
Two strikes and voila! Gelding for life!
O'Reilly irks me much of the time, but I'm totally on board with his crusade to enact "Jessica's law" nationwide.
First offense, 25 years; second offense, life w/o parole. No options to judges and no one cares if it makes them think we don't trust them.
The law takes sentencing options out of their hands, because too many of them have shown their lack of compassion for not only the victims and their families, but society in general. We the people do NOT want compassion for the child sexual molester.
On the other hand, how do you explain people who are molested as children and don't grow up to be molesters themselves? There are probably a lot more of those people than people who were molested as children and grew up to be sex offenders. Perhaps it is genetic and all they need is fertile ground to learn to be who they are?
That certainly appears to be true in a great number of cases, but not all. There is undoubtedly some statistical evidence, but I couldn't point to it at the moment.
We are born into sin. Our way out of it is a choice we may or may not make.
"You left out that he's also a lawyer. Need I say more?"
The former ambulance chasing segued right into his current career like most of them.
And it IS absurdity!! It is obviously on a MUCH grander scale when it comes to this type of disturbed decision making, but I am getting absolutely sick and tired of the "why should I be held responsible" attitude that we have been falling further and further and further into as the years have passed.
The montra "I Am Responsible" needs to find it's way back into our society, fast!! Not the "I was born that way so how can I stop myself" line... I'm a recovering alchoholic, and the havoc and pain I inflicted on my friends and family was horrible... BUT, I WAS RESPONSIBLE!! Not booze, not circumstances, not my dad didn't hug me enough... ME!
In my case, and just in my opinion, is alchoholism/addiction something you are "born" with? I absolutely believe it is, BUT I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR MY OWN ACTIONS.... You can recognize it and address it, or you can continue doing WHAT YOU ARE WELL AWARE OF is wrong, but when it comes time to pay the price for it, stop passing the buck for crying out loud!!!
I believe it is so important to keep our children away from porno or other sexual behaviors (ie peeping).
By the way RWA, this was not directed at you, it was more at excuse-making Geraldo Rivera.... I doubt he'll see it though... : )
"Add to that sewing their mouths shut and cutting off their hands."
Ok, now monty Python is coming into my head... "Hey, I'm not done with you, yet!" : )
At one time, I would have urged that as a remedy, but the thought patterns that accompany the acting out remain, and can probably erupt in other forms of assault and aberrant behavior. Still, it could be a start.
The best thing to do with what we now know is to isolate them from the rest of the population which modern thinkers are loath to do. My state, and others, have started enacting laws determining that they cannot live anywhere at all in some urban areas because of their proximity to day-care centers, schools, etc. They will undergo forced relocation. Then the people in the outlying areas will be stuck with them, and with the mobility of the population such as it is today, there's no guarantee they won't drive, hitchhike, walk, bike right back to where they can pick off another victim, so I don't particularly feel that children and other prospective targets would be safer under such a plan.
A case, probably several, will turn up again after all that effort, and it will be back to the drawing board, all because we don't want to lock them up.
Executing them is extreme, but there are times that is my knee-jerk reaction.
This is my take on what Rivera said:
I believe some people are just born without a soul. They are literally evil incarnate. Some people call them psychopaths or sociopaths, but they are dangerous and cannot be rehabilitated....so lock the buggers up!
And to that I have to agree.
It's all in his latest autobiography: "Moustache Rides, 25 Cents"
