Hurricane Katrina Live Thread, Part VI
NOAA - NHC ^ | 28 August 2005 | NOAA - NHC

Posted on 08/28/2005 2:38:16 PM PDT by NautiNurse

Extremely dangerous Hurricane Katrina is bearing down on the North Central Gulf of Mexico and New Orleans metro area. Thousands of people did not evacuate New Orleans. Outer bands of Katrina are reaching the Louisiana coast.

Due to the size and intensity of this storm, all interests in the North Gulf of Mexico should be in their safe locations.

I only wish the Superdome was shaped like "The Igloo" (The Civic Arena) in Pittsburgh.

LOL!
If something like Katrina hit the 'Burgh,
yinz know that WPXI would send Dee Thompson out to cover it at 2 in the morning.
(But only if the temperature was below 20° F)

"I work hard in all kinds of weather to cover breaking news for the morning shows."

~ Dee Thompson

That poor sob has truly earned my respect.
IMHO, he deserves some kind of award for shouldering some of the crappiest news coverage assignments in broadcast history.

"...let market forces work..."

I'm with you -- if oil were still $25-30/bbl, then yeah - let it ride. But our economy is already stressed with fuel price increases. My personal over/under call for this week is $90/bbl. We need a proactive intervention in this case.

Someone suggested adding your location to your tag line. I thought it was a very good idea.

From my post #61 above:

Hubby was in Slidell last month and heard on the local news that the police's swat team had gone into one of NO's projects to do a test. The fired off 2-3 shots at a time to see how long it would take someone to call 911. They fired over 700 rounds before the first call to 911 came in. No kidding. And rest assured, there ARE guns in that crowd and unfortunately, that's why they have to wait to get in. The saftey of the people in the Dome, especially the children, must come first. If a gun were to go off in the Dome with that many people in it, all hell could break loose.

A reporter should be able to maintain composure even in the worst of circumstances.

It is part of the job.

You can cry when the cameras are off or during commercial. Not when you should be composed and rationally delivering the news.

I am okay when somebody sometimes does screw up and show some emotion. But, you can't do it all the time.

I heard the reporter at the Dome say 102 bathrooms....72,000 people....

After years of living in a house with four people and two bathrooms, that is a very scary ratio indeed.

How many rolls of paper?

It won't matter when the sewers flood and it all comes up. Eeeewww! My granny lived during the depression so she hoarded everything. I once counted 649 rolls of tp in her house!

Good to see some ATRW guys out here.

I am still in shock at some of the cavalier attitudes with some of those that are partying on Burboun Street.

The dynamical model consensus from the National Hurricane Center had Kat moving anywhere between Appilachicola and NO. The path being quoted by the NHC was somewhere EAST of Pensacola.

That said, those models almost uniformly shifted west early Saturday.

The Mayor of NO was a moron for NOT having the wheels in motion beforehand on at least Friday, more like Thursday..

They are always longer.

I went to a Microsoft developers convention this year. The men's rooms had the lines, the women could just walk in. But IT is a kind of anti-universe.
