Defendthewhitehouse.org is a small, grassroots coalition of center-right activists who are organizing a rally for September 24th at noon in Washington DC under the banner, "ELECTIONS COUNT". The aim of this rally is to call Americans together in our nation's capitol to demonstrate the value we place on or nation, its founding principals of economic and political liberty and the sacrifices made, past and present, to ensure our liberty and prosperity.
The system of liberty with which we govern ourselves performs so well that it becomes easy to take its mechanisms for granted. An abundance of material comfort has led many to disregard the value and meaning of basic societal mediations like laws and currencies, and instead seek out alternatives simply for the sake of their being alternative, ambivalent to those alternatives' past and present failures. Our freedom is so comprehensive that many have trouble identifying what makes it possible. A vulgar, false, perhaps even juvenile anti-authoritarianism has replaced the notion of authority being derived from the consent of the governed in the minds of many. The power of our military and the courage and dignity of its volunteers protect us so well that many breeze about imagining that no real menace ever threatens them, and so they are receptive to the notion that we can do away with borders, guns and soldiers altogether. Soon after, those people can be convinced that our enemies' guns and soldiers are more deserving of their support than our own.
People do not need encouragement to take a good thing for granted, but civic nihilism has always had its advocates on the extreme left, who then offer hot-blooded revolution as an alternative. On September 24th, extremist groups such as United for Peace and Justice and International ANSWER plan to "Surround the White House" and demand President Bush's removal from office. Their appeal doesn't confront the Bush administration alone. To assemble a mob dedicated to removing a duly-elected president at the gates of our White House also assaults the majority of us citizens who cast their vote for the President. It does not demonstrate a moral or worldly critique of "neocons" or "empire". Instead, it demonstrates contempt for democracy and a rejection of political pluralism.
It would almost be comforting in comparison if these groups represented an over-anxious partisanship, but we know from their own words that the criticism of the extreme left are not limited to any particular administration or party:
"Property is theft." "Voting is the lowest expression of freedom." "[Trials and evidence] are...archaic bourgeois detail[s]." "[The U.S. deserves] a million 'Mogadishu's.'" "This country is not worth dying for."
Rather, groups like ANSWER and UFPJ seek "radical change" for the U.S. from mere "bourgeoisie democracy" to something that more closely reflects their vision of "social justice". Whether its the 19th-century quality of centrally planned healthcare in Europe, the abolition of dissent in Cuba, the permanent domestic terror in Columbia, the class genocide in Vietnam and Cambodia in the wake of U.S. retreat from Vietnam, or the atavism, racism, misogyny and theocracy common to middle-eastern "liberation" movements, "social justice" is an awful alternative for America, regardless of what euphemism it is sold under.
Professional protesters' rejection of U.S. policy and institutions is so persistent only because it is so total. Worse, this unchecked zealotry operates increasingly within the institutions of our republic as obstructionism and recklessness in the handling of the instruments of our republic.
Citizens must at some point stand in defense of the foundations of a free society. When one witnesses the depth to which the destructive rhetoric of radicalism has penetrated public life, the classic questions come to mind: If not us, who? If not now, when?
We are organizing ELECTIONS COUNT in order to provide all citizens with an opportunity to rally around one another in our nation's capitol to stand by the consent we confer to our nation under it's constitution, demonstrate our support for U.S. forces and the cause for which they sacrifice on our behalf, express our hope and support for young and emerging democracies and voice our frustration with the hate and disunity promoted by the extreme Left.
The Defend the White House Coalition is contacting you because we know you share many of these same concerns.
ELECTIONS COUNT is a completely independent project and we aim to make the event a memorable one. We hope you can lend your imprimatur to promoting our event by directing your readers/listeners to our website, where they can receive updated details of the event, add their name to the endorsers' list, buy one of our tee-shirts, or drop a dollar or two into our tip jar to help us allay our organizational costs.
Our URL is http://www.defendthewhitehouse.org .
As a central component to our rally we intend to feature a number of speakers. As someone who is known to speak authoritatively and thoughtfully in defense of American ideas, we hope you will consider filling this role for us. Your participation will be met by a substantial crowd of passionately patriotic citizens, and we will do whatever we can to make your participation a rewarding experience.
Because the rally is being organized with the out-of-pocket resources of a small staff of organizers, we regret that we can't afford to remunerate you for your contribution. If you know of another potential speaker who may be interested in addressing our crowd in DC this September 24th, please foreword this appeal to them.
And of course we hope you join us in DC regardless of whether you're able to help us and look foreword to seeing you there.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Justin Fleming
First time I've heard of this demo planned by the left.
Hope many show up on our side. Of course even if a million showed up the MSM would make it look like two.
So, Justin Fleming is what, president of the planet Zongo?
He sure doesn't know much about this world. What a dork.
"by the left"
I mean the 'Surround the White House' demo.
Got my poster script ready:
HANG THE
TRAITOR!
>B-}
At least he's doing something.
These scumbags want to destroy America and replace it with a two class system...those who rule, like George Soros, and and those who will do as they are told. Their biggest enemy is an educated, large middle class.
Ankarko (KLIF in Dallas) said he might have to think about organizing a counter protest to this. I hope he does.
What's that supposed to mean?
"Center" AND "Right"?
The "center" part of "Right"?
What's wrong with good ol' plain "Right"??
Counter protest to Cindy and ilk? There needs to be a central planning for a counter protest to her - otherwise it won't have a punch. I know the DC Chapter will be out there - but this needs to be HUGE.
Is this a counter demonstration in response to the White House being surrounded by the fringe the same day?
Cindy and her ilk
AND apparently Jane Fonda and Galloway will join together to protest on Sept 24 too.
All the scumbags will be joining hands to bring down America.
-- One Viet Cong supporter
-- One Batheist supporter
-- One terrorist supporter (guess this applies to all 3)
Ooops. Misread item. Sorry, Mr. Fleming.
Go get'um!
Thanks for the ping!
Bump
BTTT!!!!!!
The Left is cobbling together all the fringe groups they can to be a presence and swell their numbers.
***....from Sept. 24 to 26, antiwar groups are organizing three days of events here in Washington, starting with a march and rally and culminating in what their website calls "mass nonviolent direction action and civil disobedience." Immediate withdrawal from Iraq is just one part of the agenda, which includes a call for "global justice" and protection of immigrants' rights and basic civil rights. ...***
