What I don't understand is I have a pump that works under water.

Now I know those pumps aren't normally under water but they COULD BE, witness right now.

Perhaps it's too simplistic but the pump that brings me water hangs right in the water. So it is possible, No?

But hey, it's too late now.

Yesterday Rush was P***in' and Moanin' about all the erroneous "doom and gloom" predictions...because obviously New Orleans had dodged the bullet, and it wasn't going to be NEARLY as bad for the city as all those wallowing in disaster fantasies.

I wonder what EL RUSBO will say today...jerk!

How long before a city in ruin from flooding can be reclaimed or repaired?

Even though I posted a bad link in the header, WWL TV is still overloaded.

Ambulance crews are missing. Those first responders are true heroes. In every sense of the word.

Been watching those houses burn in NO in close neighborhoods with no way to put them out, could easily jump to entire neighborhoods.

Southern Baptist food kitchens were some of the first to show up. They were trying to figure out where to start cooking and distributing food.

"Yesterday Rush was P***in' and Moanin' about all the erroneous "doom and gloom" predictions."

Nobody should be making political hay out of this disaster...on either side. Rush can be an idiot at times. I suspect he'll be a little more subdued today.

Katrina is not a political issue. It is a natural disaster. All sniping, from either side, should be promptly repudiated by all sensible human beings.

The rumor is that Riverridge is damaged, but apparently somewhat less damaged than other areas.

I think another problem is that the pumps are ELECTRIC. No electricity = no pumps.

Let me add my thanks to those from others to you for running this multi-thread on Katrina. Good work. And thanks to JR and the tech team for keeping the servers up and running with all the repeated refreshes. FR in a situation like this is probably the best news aggregator around.

"What I don't understand is I have a pump that works under water."

Your pump probably runs on electricity. If the electricity is off, your pump won't work.

The large pumps on the levees, however, run on Diesel, for the most part. Diesel engines don't run underwater, either.

It's a real problem.

"Did anyone see the clip last night of Chris Matthews calling the gulf coast "The Redneck Riviera?"

Not to excuse that a-hole Matthews, but even the folks who go there (primarily Gulf Shores AL) call it that - and proudly.

Yep, I remember Ken "The Snake" Stabler used to call it that also.
