Catastrophic damage occurred to Mississippi, Louisiana and Alabama as a result of Hurricane Katrina. Major bridges are destroyed. Mobile AL suffered its worst flooding in 90 years. In New Orleans, a large section of concrete levee broke last night. Water continues to rise, threatening, among many things, Tulane Hospital with 1000 patients. New Orleans officials: Do not attempt to return to the city at this time if you evacuated. It is too dangerous.

Good morning. Thank you for running these threads. My prayers to all in the devastation.

New thread with local news links
Thanks! You have done an awesome job! My sincere thanks!
NN, may God bless you richly for all of your hard work keeping things organized.
Bump for everyone to jump.
I'm going into lurk mode for a while so people with good information can be seen. Prayers for the people of the Gulf Coast, for strength and safety and resilience.
It looks like the scope of this catastrophe is finally being realized. Prayers go out for the people in the area of devastation. And someone needs to tell Senator Mary L. to stop politicizing this and blaming Bush. Her father was a part of the problem in Louisiana.
Reporting in from SW Ohio (greater Cincinnati area) ... heavy rain now falling, no wind, although heavy gusts are expected later. 3 to 4 inches (possibly more) of rain expected in the next 18 hours.
Did anyone see the clip last night of Chris Matthews calling the gulf coast "The Redneck Riviera?
Probably rejoicing that the Great Satan got hit.
Don't expect much help for anyone else but ourselves.
Raining in Akron too, but calm winds at this point.
How's the levie in NO ? How is Lake Poncitrain(sp?)

Where is Kofi Annan?
Is he flying in a helicopter over New Orleans to look at the devastion?
Has Saudi Arabia sent financial assistance yet?
It is DISGUSTING how the Democrat Party has sent out talking points to have all democrat interviewerees bashing Bush.
Every democrat who has appeared is just talking down the ecconomy and talking down any hope and especially angling to blame Pres. Bush.
(ie. "Mr." Bush wore the wrong necktie and thus oil prices are going to go up.)
Leave it for a different thread, please.
There's a moderate risk (the way SPC does things, really moderate risk is "high" risk, and "high" risk is "armageddon") of tornadoes this afternoon from Katrina all the way up to Virginia...
http://www.spc.noaa.gov/products/outlook/day1otlk.html
These tornadoes will pop up rapidly from very small, very fast moving supercells.
Help am missing several relatives. Is there anyway a forum could be set up to help with messages. Any ideas? I know they left city but cannot find, cell phones not working just busy signals. That sick sob shummer just on complaining about strategic reserves, I am so pissed.
CNN reported this a.m. that a levy next to the lake broke and water is pouring into N.O. now. Not good...
Thanks for the excellent job of keeping these threads moving.
You're kidding me????? How incredibly insensitive.
The same pissy chrissy matthews, after his hero john kerry was defeated stated that "foreign correspondents" should be sent to the red states.
Can you please tell us specifically the locations for which you need info?
No I'm not kidding. The Alabama Senator he was talking to corrected him and said "We call it the gulf coast".
Any words of sympathy from France?
What about Iran????? We sent them tons of money after the Bam earthquake. Are they sending us medics? Food? Money? Nuclear fuel from their nuke plants?
What about France? We bailed them out of the war? Are they going to come and "bail water" out of New Orleans?
Anyone?
Any nation?
Any help?
What about Indonesia. They received billions after the tsunami. Any help from them?
What about Africa. Bush sent them $15 billion to stop having sex. Can they at least come and help us clean up?
The last report I read told of at least three levee failures. Most of the city is now underwater.
Thank you NN for all you have been doing these past few days.
Prayers for everyone..............
Please leave it for another thread.
Thank you bunches for keeping these threads running. I am going to go do some volunteer work here in Odgen this morning, but I am thinking about ways to do something to help NO and the gulf coast. People, if you have ideas, want to discuss it this afternoon?
God be with you all, especially you who have loved ones touched by this disaster (and your loved ones, too!).
Chris has lost his mind. He's becoming Dan Blather with these bizarre one-liners.
200 more feet of levee has broken.
Does anyone have info about Slidell, LA? We have family there that no one has been able to contact or even find how the town made out other than taking a hard hit.

Bouquets & kudos to you!
Thank you for your dedication to these threads.
The link for Slidell does not work (it's not just overloaded, I don't think).
Does anyone have a link that opens?
Not to excuse that a-hole Matthews, but even the folks who go there (primarily Gulf Shores AL) call it that - and proudly.
Beat it. This is not a political thread.
I know I hope enough of us here will remember her shameful behavior when her reelction comes up. You are right, all of the previous city leaders and planners are the problem. This is shameful and criminal the absolute lack of planning for this.
see post 20
I'd appreciate any updates as to the nature of what you're getting in OH throughout the day. We expect the remnants here in Toronto sometime this evening.
Look at my post #25 on this thread...
I was going to ask that too. It ain't happening......
Hello Cincinnati! Love your town! Lived there back in the early 80's in Westwood. Still miss it. The Reds and Bengals are my favorite teams.
