Shep Smith just reported martial law declared in New Orleans...
**"To be honest with you, people who are oppressed all their lives, man, it's an opportunity to get back at society," he said.**
"Getting back at society" by stealing from people who have been driven from their homes by a disaster. Disgusting. That anyone could take advantage of other human beings' misfortune to steal from them is terrible.
Another thing I've thought, observing this thread and the strong reaction to looting. This is a true-blue conservative response. Conservatives instinctively defend civilization; they instinctively feel revulsion for disorder and lawlessness. Liberals, by contrast, rush to such scenes with excuses and sympathy for the criminals. Their reaction to the riots following the Rodney King verdict is a prime example of this.
Exception: All looting perpetuated by people newly liberated from dictatorial regimes by the U. S. military will be strongly condemned by the Left.
Looting for other reasons is wrong. No doubt or question about that.
His own procalmation that, "before Abraham was I am", made many Jews mad enough to try and kill Him because they thought He was being blasphemous. As it was, He was only being truthful.
FNC stated this was reported in error... should the title of the thread be changed?
Unchecked lawlwessness will turn to chaos and mayhem. As they use up what they stole and return to the store for more, they will find it empty...now believing that stealing is okay to sustain their life...they will begin entering other's homes and taking from them.
Guess what happens when those people put up a fuss?
No, the National Guard needs to get in there as quickly as possible and put a definitive stop to it.
If someone is out giving away the food and water they have, that is an entirely different issue. But to steal it is wrong and the owner, or law enforcement is in their rights to use force to stop it.
AND THEY CAN'T PUMP IT OUT!!
This is HORRIBLE! The best city on earth might just have to be bulldozed and rebuilt!!
WOW!!!
The news media just being it's usual alarmist self I see.
Thanks for clarifying. My underlying point remains the same, however.
I don't know if anyone has already posted this, but I'll guess that it was when the entire south was put under martial law after the war between the states.
What surprised me was that as soon as states authority is inactive for a few hours, the people start looting. I could somewhat understand looting in case of a war when everywhere is nothing but total chaos (in a "The day after" scenario) but not after a strong storm in a first world country.
Some people are only waiting for the anarchy to start.
Don't bother honey. I'm bypassing this thread. You ought not be surprised that people react the way they do when you point out the obvious. Waiting for the day you, like another freeper I know, will be accused of being a n*gger lover. This hurricane stirred up a lot of vermin imho.
Hooray for our new masters in khaki!
I agree the National Guard needs to get in there as soon as possible.
I also take issue however with your underlying point. A property owner is protected in most areas for using force during the commission of a felony to protect their property. This is well founded in our history and juris prudcence because property and life are so closely inter-related. If someone has the power to take your property, historically...and statistically...your life is also considered in dnager.
Looting is considered a felony and a breaking of the law in itself in most states, in addition to the theft charges (burgerlary, laceny, etc.).
That is because in these conditions, as I have stated earlier...if such lawlessness is not quickly stopped, it will lead to much worse as the looters (thieves, felons, criminals, etc.) begin breaking into homes to "take what they need" from thos epeople and those people put up a fuss about it. Soon you have litoral chaos and mayhem. The behavior cannot be tolerated because it leads to much worse.
I hope and pray the Guard gets in there quickly to put a stop to it...using as much force as necessary to do so.
Just my onw opinion on the matter.
Who gave Moses the 10 Commandments???
The fact remains, the commanment says, thou shalt not steal, PERIOD.
Not even our trading partners and friends in China?
My great Uncle was a cop in the Newark PD during the 1967 riots. He said that there was total disorganization due to a lack of communication and coordination between the city and the state. As a result, you often had National Guardsmen shooting at NPD and vice versa.
It is not something desirable...but in circumstances like these it is necessary to control looting and lawlessness and keep it from developing into far worse.
No one relishes it or desires it. Sorry your attitude about these guys seems to be so cynical. I am glad they are there when needed.
God will understand
Then why doesn't the commandment say, thou shalt not steal, unless of course you plan to return at a later date to make amends.
