Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom, who pops up from time to time to snipe at Gov. Jerry Brown, suggested today that his fellow Democrat lacks a "vision for greatness" and is "not necessarily the most collaborative executive," and he criticized social service cuts Brown has proposed. "We've got a governor who is doing a very good job focusing on solvency," the former San Francisco mayor, who dropped out of the gubernatorial race in 2010, said on KQED Radio's Forum. "But what we need is a vision for greatness again." Brown and Newsom have a distant relationship, . . .

Victoria Jackson doesn't want to meet at her house. "The Nation of Islam wants to kill me," she explains apologetically in her inimitable shrill voice. Instead, she picks up a reporter at a Miami-area strip mall. Her weathered Honda Civic is adorned with "Nobama," Marco Rubio, and Tea Party bumper stickers, and inside, it smells like it's been fumigated with sweet incense. She hurtles through intersections and down side streets, holding a Flip cam to her face with her left hand. Steering with elbows and the occasional pinkie, she opens a Bible inscribed with her name and quotes Scripture. Then...

On Christmas day, two of the protesters at the Occupy Nashville encampment started arguing with each other; one of them was three-months pregnant. Harsh words led to hair pulling and punching, and both of them landed on the ground. A local news journalist on the scene felt threatened enough to call the police.

COOPER EGGED THEM ON was the title on the Drudge Report this morning. Cooper framed an attack on Herman Cain and setup the others to join in on a Psychological Lynching of Herman Cain. Cooper set it up framing that Herman's 999 plan would not work and then had each of the Candidates fire on Herman Cain. Despite the withering attach Herman stood fast.

Rep. Michele Bachmann, Governor Rick Perry and former Senator Rick Santorum met in Waterloo, Iowa this evening to speak to the Blackhawk County Republicans. Santorum spoke first then Rick Perry spoke and after that Bachmann spoke last, but before that this strange event happened: Chuck Todd NBC: Bachmann would not enter the building until they had confirmation from staffers INSIDE that the lights had been changed. Overheard a Bachmann staffer supervising the light change say: "We're a go" LinkPeter Hamby CNN: Lights were dimmed for Bachmann when she took the stage LinkHotAir Ed Morrissey: Wrap-up from Waterloo: Perry embraced, Bachmann...

The Ames Straw Poll, a sideshow Iowa Republican Party fundraiser, is finally over. The best thing about this straw poll is that it cuts to the chase and gets to the very heart of American politics – bribery. The presidential politicking season finally kicked off in earnest as Republican Party candidates all gathered in the heartland for a bit of old fashioned Americana. They feasted upon heart clogging delicacies such as fried butter on a stick and engaged in the fine political art of bribery. Yes, the straw poll results are not about the candidates’ ideas, their personas, their debate skills...

DES MOINES, Iowa -- “I like Sarah Palin a lot,” Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann said at Thursday’s night’s Republican presidential debate. “We are very good friends.” Bachmann’s charitable words were the latest in a long line of glowing public comments that the two potential Republican rivals have showered upon each other since 2008. But a personal relationship between the conservative female leaders has, in fact, been nonexistent for the past 16 months, as aides from Bachmann’s camps have privately -- and sometimes publicly -- disparaged Palin to an extent that has caused growing exasperation in Palin world. That behind-the-scenes rancor...

Passengers riding an L Train in Brooklyn Tuesday watched in amazement as two women brawled over a seat. Video of the incident was recorded by a straphanger with an iPhone and posted to YouTube. It took place around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday as the train was headed from Morgan Avenue to Jefferson Street in Brooklyn. One of the women was pushing a baby in a stroller when a profanity-filled verbal spat began and quickly escalated into a full-fledged street fight. The two women involved — one wearing a blue shirt and another in white — could be seen yelling and ripping...

Minnesota Republican Rep. Michele Bachmann released a letter Wednesday from the House Attending Physician’s office, confirming that Bachmann suffers “infrequently” from migraines “with aura,” and that she can control them “well” with the use of sumatriptan and odansetron, two “commonly used therapies” to treat the chronic headaches. The letter’s release comes after The Daily Caller reported late Monday that Bachmann has been hospitalized on at least three occasions due to the headaches. Three people who have worked closely with Bachmann told TheDC migraines regularly debilitate her for periods up to several days. “You have a well-established diagnosis of migraine headaches...

Ft. Worth-based Range Resources’ ugly legal battle with some North Texas landowners and the EPA over alleged groundwater contamination has taken a new turn, with the firm filing a counter-claim against the landowners. In 2010, Steven and Shyla Lipsky of rural Parker County complained to the Texas Railroad Commission — the agency that oversees drilling in Texas — about natural gas in their water well. The couple believed it was caused by drilling at two nearby Range gas wells. The Lipsky’s hired a Flower Mound-based firm, Wolf Eagle Environmental, to do water and air testing. Alisa Rich, the owner, encouraged...

Who has a better chance of winning the Republican nomination?

It’s common these days to hear media talking heads refer to Michele Bachmann as the “Tea Party favorite” in the upcoming 2012 GOP primary race. Unlike Governor Palin who has always stated that the Tea Party doesn’t need one specific leader, Bachmann has tried to cast herself into such a role. She created a “Tea Party Caucus” in congress and gave the “Tea Party response” following Obama’s State of the Union Address last January. The Tea Party is comprised mainly of independent-minded small government activists who are sick and tired of the way Washington is operating. These are people who...

CBN's David Brody interview Michele Bachmann in Iowa tonight, where she insists she 'likes' Sarah Palin and downplays reports, including by POLITICO, about jockeying between the two women: Brody: “Set the record straight with us on your relationship with Sarah Palin because the media wants to pit you, if not pit you against Sarah Palin they certainly want to compare you two. And I’m wondering how you see it specifically as it relates to Governor Palin.”Bachmann: “I like her a lot. We’re friends. I have great admiration for her, great respect for her, and we’ve never had a cross word...

Tea Party queen U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) is touting her airtight conservative credentials in a veiled dig at GOP presidential nomination opponent Mitt Romney. Bachmann, speaking via Skype.com to the National Right to Life Convention in Florida last week, didn’t mention Romney by name, but it was obvious she was taking aim at him for his previous wavering on the abortion issue, the Huffington Post reports. The 2012 race is “not the time for Republicans to put up a candidate who is weak on this issue and has a history of flip-flopping on this issue,” she said.

"I should have decked her." The accuser in a wacky diva-on-doctor slapdown at the Upper West Side Trader Joe's came to that realization after a waste-of-taxpayer-dollars trial ended in an acquittal this week. Dr. Catherine London -- who, it turns out, is the chip-off-the-old-block daughter of famously imperial AIG insurance mogul Maurice "Hank" Greenberg -- rushed right online to complain after losing the court battle with an angry opera singer that stemmed from a January scuffle in the crowded grocery store's frozen-food aisle.

Oh brother. Would someone please tell this guy to stop trying to be just one of the guys. It’s an unforced error my little mobsters. but is it as bad as the young president laughing at the stimulus failure? The comment came at some kind of coffee shop in Tampa, Florida as Mitt continues to pile up the endorsements, the cash, and the poll numbers. So generally when you’re leading the pack it’s best just to keep plugging away on your plan and the President’s failures. But instead some staffer must’ve said, “Gov, you need to loosen up.” Well Governor...

Bachmann vs. Palin feud hits Twitter By Matt Lewis A few weeks ago, I pointed out that a prominent Sarah Palin blogger had turned on Michele Bachmann. On Fox News Sunday this week, Palin pointed out that she, unlike Bachmann, had executive experience (though added that Bachmann had strengths, too). The feud was taken to a new level, however, when Bachmann’s new “celebrity” campaign manager, Ed Rollins referred to Palin as “not serious.” This was too much for Palin supporter and talk radio host, Tammy Bruce who took to her Twitter feed. Bruce, who also appears in the new film...

Jacksonville, FL — A pregnant cat is partially being blamed for four people being shot in Northwest Jacksonville. Witnesses said two women were arguing in the 1200 block of Hart Street just after 4 p.m. Friday, because one of them was hitting the other's cat with a purse. The woman hitting the cat supposedly yelled to her boyfriend to start shooting. Witnesses said another person fired back at the shooter, who then tried to run. A woman, a man, a 17-year-old girl and a 3-year-old girl were among the victims. None of the injuries were life threatening. The gunman has...

(CNN) - As Katie Couric gets set to leave CBS News after five years in the anchor chair, it doesn't appear as if Sarah Palin will be sending any flowers. Appearing on Fox News Tuesday, Palin mocked the CBS newswoman who told People Magazine she is looking forward to a new position that will facilitate "multi-dimensional storytelling." "Yeah, and I hear that she wants to now engage in more 'multi-dimensional story telling' versus I guess just the 'straight on, read into the, that teleprompter screen story telling,'" Palin said. "More power to her. I wish her well in her -...

Is Donald Trump about to get Paul-verized? A month after the curiously coiffed mogul told the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington that Texas congressman Ron Paul has "zero chance" of being elected President, an avid Paul supporter is looking for payback. Pro-Paul Shawn Thompson is in the process of filing a complaint with the Federal Elections Commission that claims Trump and two supporters have violated federal campaign laws. The Tampa-based Thompson was a local coordinator for Paul's 2008 presidential campaign and, we hear, was at the CPAC conference when Trump attacked Paul to a chorus of boos. (He did...

It’s hard to believe that a fight this bad could erupt when the only thing she asked for was some maple syrup for her pancakes. A mass brawl ensued when one girl asked another table if they could have some syrup, and got the response: ‘B***h, your pancakes look fine to me’. The fight started in a Denny's restaurant in Chicopee, Massachusetts, when one group of girls did not have enough maple syrup. 'What Not To Wear' fashion guru Clinton Kelly has come out blazing against fellow TLC star Sarah Palin, saying he wasn't thrilled when he heard that the ex-governor would be doing what he calls an "eight-hour info-commercial on my network." Sources tell me Clinton isn't the only star at TLC who wants nothing to do with the right-leaning politician. "Kate Gosselin isn't very fond of her either, especially after spending several days taping an episode" of her show, 'Sarah Palin's Alaska,' sources tell me. Sitting down with Joy Behar and myself a few days ago on her hit new HLN...

Take a good look at this video. It is only 30 seconds long, but it encapsulates how right Karl Rove is about Palin's TV career -- and why she will never be president of the United States. The video comes from the TLC cable channel and it is intended to promote this week's episode of "Sarah Palin's Alaska," the reality TV show starring Palin bludgeoning fish to death and shooting caribou. Of course, I found both ugly and digusting... Palin sold herself too cheap when she got into bed with TLC, Kate Gosselin and TV shows that celebrate polygamy and...

West Wing creator Aaron Sorkin has hit out at Sarah Palin after she was seen shooting a caribou on the latest episode of her TV reality show. The screenwriter, who also recently penned the Facebook film The Social Network, accused the contender for the 2012 Republican Presidential nomination of killing an animal 'for political gain'. And in a statement on the Huffington Post website, he accused her of making a 'snuff film' and branded her a 'phony Pioneer girl' and a 'witless bully'.

Kathy Griffin calls Bristol Palin fat at USO event, and soldiers boo her By Laura Donovan - The Daily Caller 11:06 AM 12/06/2010 ADVERTISEMENT Comedian Kathy Griffin wasn’t so popular with the troops during her USO Diva’s Salute stand-up act on Sunday, when she poked fun at Bristol Palin’s weight. “[Bristol Palin] is the only contestant in the history of ["Dancing with the Stars"] to actually gain weight.” Following a chorus of boos, Griffin went on to say, “No, come on, come on. She gained, like, 30 pounds a week. I swear to God, it was fantastic. She’s like the...

How long before the cries of “Free Bristol Palin!” begin? Margaret Cho, who briefly co-starred with Palin on this season’s “Dancing With the Stars,” blogged Monday that Bristol only did the show because Sarah Palin forced her to, part of a plan to get Americans to “fall in love with her again” in the runup to the 2012 election.

Saying that a woman engaged in feline fisticuffs might be called sexist. But when that woman actually accuses another of seeking to "claw" critics, illustrating her assertion with a cat-like hand gesture, well . . . It's no secret that Nicolle Wallace is no fan of Sarah Palin. But the former Bush communications director and McCain campaign aide perhaps took things to another level with her attack on Palin on today's Morning Joe. Palin needs a history lessonRICHARD COHEN Tuesday, November 23, 2010 When I was 11, my father thought it was time to show my sister and me the nation's capital. **SNIP** It's appalling that Palin and too many others fail to understand that fact - indeed so many facts of American history. They don't offer the slightest hint that they can appreciate the history of the Obama family and that in Michelle's case, her ancestors were slaves - Jim Robinson of South Carolina, her paternal great-great grandfather, being one. Even after they were freed they were consigned to peonage, second-class citizens,...

Fox News pays Sarah Palin as a contributor to their network. A Youngstown man whose girlfriend allegedly scratched him on the face with her fingernails told a deputy that he wanted her charged with assaulting him “with a deadly weapon.” He said he had read on the Internet that her fingernails could be considered a deadly weapon, according to a Bay County Sheriff’s Office report. About 4 p.m. Sunday, the report said, the 29-year-old man was driving his 37-year-old girlfriend to the Walmart Super Center off Front Beach Road when they began to argue. He said she grabbed the stick shift and put the car in neutral, then began to scratch...

It was Sobran’s pathological hatred of Israel that led to his and William F. Buckley’s parting of the ways at National Review in the 1980s. As the NY Times obituary about him summed it up: “Mr. Sobran’s isolationist views on American foreign policy and Israel became increasingly extreme. He took a skeptical line on the Holocaust and said the Sept. 11 terror attacks were a result of American foreign policy in the Middle East, which he believed that a Jewish lobby directed.”

The Republicans have cornered the market on beauty because they've cornered the market on crazy, and if they've failed to produce a "candidate" in Delaware, they've succeeded in producing a star, and have made all the tut-tutting pundits look as behind the times as the newspapers they serve. Wherever populism reared its head, there used to be sweaty men; now — in country music, at Fox, and in crossover "Islamaphobe" bloggers who get their picture pasted on the Sunday Times — there are at least semi-sexy women. The Democrats didn't think they had to worry about any of this. They...

The business of politics got a little dirty on "The Daily Show with Jon Stewart" Thursday night. Meghan McCain (yes, daughter of Arizona Senator John McCain) joined Stewart last night to chat about her book, "Dirty Sexy Politics," and the conversation soon veered into Palin territory. The book, Stewart pointed out, "is a view of the campaign trail that’s very personal" - almost like he was reading someone's diary, he said. “I basically wrote a very real book," McCain explained. "It’s very sad and I talk about everything – I talk about sex and politics and everything in between and...

How the Media Used to Treat Sarah Palin By Stacy Drake After discussing with a friend, the horrid hit-piece from Michael Joseph Gross in this week's Vanity Fair, he reminded me of an old article published by a different magazine, from a different time. Back in February 2008, Vogue featured a much different sort of article about Governor Palin. The piece was titled "Altered State" and it highlighted many different elements of the governor's life, both personal and professional. The beginning of the piece says a lot about who exactly Sarah Palin is as a person, and how the media...

Two conflicting pieces of evidence on the state of race relations in America. Exhibit A: an African-American elected to the White House amid tears of joy and a 53 percent vote share. Exhibit B: Sarah Palin’s cheeky, defiant—and increasingly incendiary—tweets. On Wednesday, Palin leaped to defend radio host Dr. Laura Schlessinger, who used the N word 11 times when a black woman called her advice hotline last week. After the furor broke, Dr. Laura apologized for a “horrible mistake.” She also announced she would end her radio show so she could “get her First Amendment rights back” away from the...

An internal memo from JetBlue’s chief operating officer to the airline’s staff and board of directors explicitly rebukes the actions taken by flight attendant Steven Slater as “unacceptable.” The document, which was reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, offers the first timeline of events following Monday’s now-famous airplane exit by Slater, in which the apparently enraged flight attendant uttered expletives over the public address system, deployed the emergency chute and slid down to the tarmac with two beers in hand. But the memo also reveals that even at the highest levels of JetBlue, officials are still trying to determine what...

Sources close to Johnston tell TMZ he signed a new reality deal this weekend, one that doesn't include everyone's favorite unwed teen mother from Alaska. No word yet on what the exact format will be, though several networks are said to be interested.

A girlfriend's overbearing and manipulative mother, implications of blackmail, a forced breakup, a naked love romp, police interference…no, we simply can't imagine why Sarah and Bristol Palin had a problem with Levi Johnston's music video debut. We also can't imagine what was left on the cutting room floor, seeing as how Levi never meant to nail the Palins and all. E! News has obtained a copy of the treatment for the relationship-ending video he's set to roll camera on next week and it's not exactly what you would call a flattering portrait of his (until recent) home life. -snip- Since...
