Yeah....right....get the Pres. there RIGHT AWAY...../rolling eyes
Much worse than first reported!
Where is G.W. Bush and why isn't he standing on a rescue vehicle in the middle of NO providing leadership and support? He is making the same mistake that his father made when Andrew hit Florida in 1992. He is setting himself up to be portrayed as yet another Nero. Either get out there, or deputize Guliani and get him in there. It seems like the mayor of No has vanished into oblivion, and the leadership void is just another aspect of the tragedy.
What are you smoking?????????
N O is being EVACUATED!
Bush to NO right now would be little more than grandstanding, and he'd be impeding rescue efforts by even being there. Such a style over substance move rings of Clintonism.
That would CAUSE more problems than it would solve.
The President is cutting short his vacation in Texas and heading back to the White House tommorow to coordinate the recovery effort. Going to New Orleans right now would accomplish nothing.
If I were him I would approach the personal appearances very carefully.
GHW Bush won Florida in 1992, despite Lawton "Moron" Chiles attempts to portray him as "out of touch."
I thought the President was going to have an announcement today...something about the military taking over the recovery in NO, et al.
Did I dream this?
Never understood that mentality. What is so important about a leader getting in the way of things just for a photo opportunity? President Bush can't just "stand on a rescue vehicle in the middle of New Orleans" without having an entire entourage of Secret Service agents, news media and other hangers-on turning a rescue mission into a full-blown circus and causing a huge disruption to the efforts of those who are trying to get these people help. Now how is that providing leadership?
And I don't get this "visting the scene to observe the damage" either. Why does Bush have to fly to New Orleans to see the damage when every single cable news station in America is showing footage 24/7?
I was only involved in one natural disaster. It was the Blizzard of '78 that paralyzed the coastline of New England for three weeks. I remember then Gov. Mike Dukakis flying overhead in a National Guard helicopter. Whoop-de-doo. I'm sure that helicopter could have been put to much better use than to fly around some dorky sweater-wearing bureaucrat who had presidential aspirations.
utter stupidity
GW went back to DC early to coordinate rescue and cleanup efforts related to Kristina.
The President will be in NO and the surrounding area when it is safe for him to do so without interferring with search and recovery. Your lack of knowledge of a Presidential visit and what it takes is telling. The Advance Team was put in place yesterday and when they decide it is okay for him to visit, he will.
There is always an advance team before the Veep or President can go anywhere....it usually is done for days and days, days ahead of their arrival. What good would it do to have the President show up and be killed or very seriously harmed?
IMHO, the president is showing strong leadership and concern regarding this; he has addressed this situation several times in as many days...has been seen watching this, has been in communication with the various people with FEMA, etc., and I have no doubt he got the mayor's and governor's collective rears in gear, as well...while it appeared all they were doing was hand-wringing and talking to lawyers.
Criticize of the President on this issue is misplaced, again, imho.
You sound like that crabby Jack McGarity on Wolf Blitzer's show this afternoon. He wanted the President to get down there too. I suppose he could parachute in, since all airports in the area are closed...and then of course, the Secret Service would have to check out everyone at the Super Dome before he could visit and law enforcement would have to provide security instead of preventing looters from sacking the city.
By now you ought to know that whatever the Pres. does, he will be criticized by those who hate him, so this time I think he's wise to wait until there aren't so many issues of life and death in NO.
Step away from your keyboard and put that bong down
Just so you no longer remain clueless: G.W. Bush is the President of the USA, not the Governor of Louisiana. He is providing leadership via the Federal Government and it's vast resources.
Because conditions are unsuitable for him to do so? And even if he does, he'd be demonized for grandstanding anyway by the Left?
He is making the same mistake that his father made when Andrew hit Florida in 1992.
Lawton Chiles snookered Bush I by delaying to ask for disaster relief aid. Apparently, you don't know the real story behind this and got the usual propaganda from the MSM.
