He got very quiet with me when I told him the numbers that have been public so far. He asked what have they said? I told him 50-80...he said "dude..we are picking up 30 at a time...thousands are dead...why aren't they saying...I guess I better shut up then...don't give my name" word for word in the call...
Just trying to be specific for everyone here....
I have lost signal with him now...now saying all circuits are busy...damn
No words...
If I had to guess, they don't want to scare the people outside the affected area with the damage tolls. But, like the tsunami, the numbers and images got out, and that is when the relief efforts started pouring in.
I am so sorry for your friend, he or she has to be undergoing terrific stress as the removal of so many is an emotional, rough task.
I wonder if this will be in our news tomorrow? I am just so sorry for the thousands who lost their lives and their surviving family members who probably are waiting right now to hear news of their loved ones.
This storm was beyond belief.
OMG....your friend is one of the heros...how hard that must be to see..those poor people!
The official death toll for Andrew is 26.
They had one hundred in the Biloxi, Gulfport area alone earlier today. On TV they were scrolling 80 as if it were a combination of the states. So I knew they didn't want to put out the numbers.
I used to be stationed in Pascagoula and my husband at Keesler AFB in Biloxi. When I saw the footage this morning...I couldn't recognize anything at all. My uncle who works off a rig out of Louisiana is lost... I know they let them go early, so who knows where he is.
Thank you for your news report. This is why FreeRepubic is absolutely vital. You hear it hear, first. V's wife.
Right now on FOX: "AP: 2 deaths in Alabama from Katrina". Two deaths. All the structures destroyed. OMG, they just don't want to tell us yet.
How sad and horrific. God bless your friend and the families of the dead.
Sadly, what your friend told you is no surprise, reason why I have limited my tv viewing, not easy for the mind to take in.
Prayers for all involved.
