Nicolas Cage donates to relief effort Friday, September 2 2005, 12:23 BST -- by Daniel Saney

Nicolas Cage has donated $1m to help residents of New Orleans in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

Cage, who has property in the affected Louisiana city, made his donation to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.

A statement released by publicist Annett Wolf reads: "(Cage) wishes to help his neighbours during this most devastating time."

Yesterday it was reported that Morgan Freeman is helping to organise an auction to raise funds for the cause.

Morgan Freeman aids Katrina victims Thursday, September 1 2005, 19:21 BST -- by Daniel Saney

Actor Morgan Freeman is helping to organise an online auction in order to raise money for the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund in an effort to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Held on the Charity Folks website, the fund-raiser will open on Friday and run until September 16, with items including a resort getaway, film memorabilia packages and a chance to see Freeman's new movie An Unfinished Life.

myTELUS.com quotes him as saying: "It's sort of well-known that anytime any catastrophe happens anywhere in the world, they can count on the United States for help.

"Now, charity begins at home, so we call on anybody who has even the thought (of giving) to get beyond the thought and help these people."

The Weather Channel makes relief donation Thursday, September 1 2005, 04:51 BST -- by James Welsh

The Weather Channel has announced it is making a $1m cash donation to the American Red Cross as the massive Hurricane Katrina relief operation in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida continues.

"Our biggest concern during these types of weather situations is how to best warn and prepare people; this is always foremost on our minds," said Debora Wilson, president of The Weather Channel Companies. "We know that millions count on us to provide them with the information they need to understand and cope with the effect of a storm such as Katrina.

"Now, in the aftermath as we see the images of the devastation wrought by Hurricane Katrina, our hearts go out to those in the area who have withstood terrifying conditions as the hurricane made landfall, and then left unbelievable damage in its wake. We want to be among the first to offer what financial assistance we can, and we urge others to join with us in helping The American Red Cross and other disaster relief organizations."

In addition to the $1m donation, The Weather Channel will match, dollar for dollar, any contributions made by its employees.

"The Red Cross is now sheltering, feeding and comforting thousands in the Gulf Coast areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina," said Marsha J. Evans, president and CEO of the American Red Cross. "None of this would be possible without generous donors like The Weather Channel."

The channel has added an area to its website where people can request information on family and friends missing or otherwise impacted in the wake of Katrina.

As an actor he isn't fit to be Jimmy's Steward. (cheap joke I know)

Cage just purchased a home in the Garden District near John Goodmans. His house should be fine from the water but most likely will, if it hasnt already, been looted or worse, set on fire.

The Jerry Lewis Telethon will also be donating from the Labor Day extravaganza. FOX asked Ed McMahon if it was ethical for them to take away from MS and he said he was trilled.

Absolutely hated Leaving Las Vegas, but otherwise Cage is a pretty good actor and this is very cool.

We'll have to see if he has a new squeeze first.
Other then that, it's just bad timing for him and a photo op.
