Less than 24 hours later, the mayor found himself aboard Air Force One, face to face with the president at Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.
He repeated his criticisms, he said in an interview last night, and got a positive response from the president.
"He said he was fully committed to getting us the resources we need," Nagin said in the stifling heat of the tattered Hyatt Regency hotel next door to the Louisiana Superdome. "I told him I knew we could work together, and he said he understood."
In their two hours together, first aboard Air Force One and then during a flyover of the city in the president's Marine One helicopter, Nagin said Bush did not mention the radio tirade until the mayor himself brought it up.
"I told him: 'I said some things yesterday that may have offended you, and if they did, I apologize. But if you were in my shoes, what would you do?' " Nagin said. "He said he had heard I had said some things, but that he really didn't understand all of it. And then he said: 'You and I are OK.' "
Nagin grinned and added: "The president loves frankness."
Dressed in a white T-shirt and slacks, his bald head beaded with sweat, Nagin told reporters at the hotel that Bush was "very attentive, very serious, very determined to make sure this city gets what it needs."
He said Bush acknowledged that he too was dissatisfied with the progress of assistance to the beleaguered city.
He said he told Bush that if he and Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco did not "get on the same page as far as chain of command is concerned," New Orleans would continue to slide into anarchy.

Too late!
Maybe Bush has already got the goods on Nagin.
Maybe he would be a man, take charge and not throw a temper tantrum.
Well, as much as I would have liked to have seen GW knock this clown's block off, he may have been more effective doing what he did. Obviously, this clownact has been replaced by the likes of the Army's 3 star. And as the dem's continue their attack on Bush, it won't hurt if the New Orleans mayor is standing in Bush's corner. And I have a feeling the residents of New Orleans will eventually wring this guy's neck anyway.
I've said before Katrina, I liked what Nagin was doing for NO. he was a big step forward from the Morial machine, who's cronies have been or in the process of being indited. I heard his interview with Garland. At the end, they both were about to cry. What a great lesson for many to learn.
ever been to the "woodshed"...I think he has...now the media needs to be taken there too!
Dressed in a white T-shirt and slacks, his bald head beaded with sweat, Nagin told reporters at the hotel that Bush was "very attentive, very serious, very determined to make sure this city gets what it needs." And a year for now he will be laying in a ditch in Crawford demanding to meet Bush and speak his mind.
I think the governor is toast as well. I don't think either will get the rat nomination.
The way you have the photo of the flooded bus parking lot right under Nagin's photo, makes it look like one of the Beatles on the cover of their Sgt. Pepper album.
Prayers for those hurt by Katrina, and those helping!
Oh, prayers for the looters, criminals, and inept govt. officials, too.
Full Disclosure: The Beatles with their endorsement of narcotics and "hippie" lifestyle, have greatly contributed to the degradation of American culture. Prayers for them anyway.

Who is Garland?
Count on it.
The mayor is putting the best face he can on a trip to the woodshed.
I suspect there is some drug related issue with this guy Nagin. It's being kept in Roves back pocket for the time being.
As far as I can see, the man had a perfectly natural emotional outburst and is now feeling a bit peevish about it. However, it is just the sort of emotional outburst that someone in a leadership position should not have the luxury to make. Do you realize how many incompetent generals Lincoln had to endure until he and Grant hooked up?
