Bush administration officials blame state and local authorities for what leaders at all levels have called a failure of the country's emergency management.

Behind the scenes, a power struggle emerged, as federal officials tried to wrest authority from Louisiana Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco (D). Shortly before midnight Friday, the Bush administration sent her a proposed legal memorandum asking her to request a federal takeover of the evacuation of New Orleans, a source within the state's emergency operations center said Saturday.

The administration had sought control over National Guard units, normally under control of the governor. Louisiana officials rejected the request, noting that such a move would be comparable to a federal declaration of martial law. State authorities suspected a political motive behind the request.

Somehow the WH putting out the timeline for the runup to the hurricane is "shifting blame".

There you go. They've come full circle. First it was, "Bush was asleep at the switch and didn't do enough early on." Now it's, "Bush tried to take control too soon due to political motivations."

Only the psychotic left could pull this dog and pony show and think they could get away with it.

Just when I thought they couldn't go any lower. How many times have I had to say that?

Oh course it is the White House shifting blame. See, there is a template that the MSM has for what went wrong, and since the facts don't agree with that template they have to start yelling. And when someone screams all that comes to mind is an old adage: "why am I yelling? Because I am wrong!"

It does not matter that Blanco did everything wrong, the template says that it is all Bush's fault. How dare he work from his ranch for 5 weeks. How dare he not meet with "Mother" Shehan. How dare he breath air that someone more worthy could breath. The MSM will do all they can to try and ruin the President no matter what the truth is.

State authorities suspected a political motive behind the request. "Quite frankly, if they'd been able to pull off taking it away from the locals, they then could have blamed everything on the locals," said the source, who is an adviser and does not have the authority to speak publicly.

It's finally happened. The 'Hate Bush' mentality has come home to roost and is now affecting policy decisions.

Thank God Bush took over. My gosh, those people were in dire straights and suffering under the hand of Blanco.

The MSM knows who's to blame for this screw up, and that's why they're on the attack. Had Bush not saved the day, those poor people would still be screaming from their roof tops. Nothing happened until he moved in, and that's pretty darn obvious to any one with a brain.

Babineaux Blanco; I believe that's French for 'empty suit'.

Roughly translated it means, "mouth of a whore."

In addition to beating up on Bush they have to protect the minority leadership and the woman. Wouldn't want people thinking that women who have never been in a leadership position don't know how to act in an emergency.

Screw the MSM. Especially the comPOST.

In any disaster, fixing it STARTS at the local level and goes UP. Only the MSM can make the whole thing GBush's fault - from global warming cooking the storm, to dysintery in the superdome.

I have my problems with GWB, but i DONT LIKE LIES. and that's what the MSM has become IMO - A SPREADER OF LIES, working in concert with the Rats. Even Fox - ShepSmith in particular - continues to push the idea that somehow all this would have been MINOR if GWB wasnt on vacation. Lies, Lies, Lies. I'm tired of it. Thank GOD for Free Republic so I can vent.

As misleading as the article's headline is, the facts within the story look terrible for NOLA...

The Bush Admin steps up and tries to take the leadership role of what should be a state/local responsibility...

No one in their right mind will deny that the situation under state/local control has been an ancillary disaster...

The mere fact that the state/local authorities are resisting will be devastating politically...and so would capitulating....

Meanwhile...out of the ashes of tragedy, Bush's leadership stature will be solidified....

All Bush needs to do now is appoint Gulianni as the NOLA Recovery CZAR...

Politically this an extremely deft move on Bush's part...Has Rove all over it...

said the source, who is an adviser and does not have the authority to speak publicly.

This sentence alone tells everyone the true agenda of the MSM.

It's just too absurd.
