Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 4, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.

The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.

In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Good Point! Girls crying on TV doesn't make 'women in charge' look good. As a female I'll take the hit if it also makes hillary look unacceptable.

Don't go - Bush gets blasted. Goes - Bush gets Blasted. Don't step in - Bush failed to act. Does - He's grabbing power. Typical lib pap for the weak minded in America.

Bingo. You nailed it.

The Dems have been slinging blame, accusations of racism, and on and on...but if anyone holds THEM to account it's so unacceptable they deserve to be punched--inlcuding the President? Gaaah. I thought I couldn't possibly be more sick of Dems, but I've learned otherwise.

Business as usual: they want to be free to spread their sh!t, but if anyone calls them on it, they want them silenced--or punched.

The levee improvement argument is a total canard. Much of the MSM has nailed that one:

--The levee improvements have been underway for years and will be underway for many more years. Cuts or maintenance of funds would not have changed that fact.

--The levee improvements were only engineered for Cat 3 storms. They would have made no difference in this case.

--The particular main levee that broke was not considered sub-standard and was not in the improvement plans.

Louisiana's three stooges--one mayor, one governor, one senator.

Not going to happen. Infighting and finger-pointing is often unseemly and counterproductive, but it is inherent in politics. Arguing against that on principle is as futile as trying to bail out New Orleans with tea cups. Worse, for anyone interested in politics, it fosters a sense of unreality and can lead to something worse than infighting and finger-pointing: coming off second best in such contests.

I have NEVER seen such a gathering of amateurs. These people could not coordinate a bingo night. How sad for the people that have to live with leadership like that. Maybe this is the break in the political levee that has keep many living in total crap.

Unfortunately, this kind of rant plays well with Landrieu's constituents.

A Fox reporter just interviewed an evacuee at the Astrodome, and I quote: "The mayor's doing everything he can, but the federal government has to do more!"

The "more" he was referring to this time was to open more FEMA, HUD and Social Security (read welfare) offices in Houston -- never mind the folks back home -- in LA, MS and AL -- who are still stranded and need all the help they can get -- yup, whatever the federal government does, it always "has to do more."

I've got to hand to LA politicians, they sure know how to play the game of deflecting blame, while salivating, as Landrieu did even before the storm hit, over the billions coming their way.

She doesn't give a damn about the people who died due to the LA government's negligence; it's all about the money, as it is for that man in Houston.

LOL

You sure are a model of self restraint!

I suggest the adjectives craven, attention seeking, over emotional, back stabbing, sniveling, emoting, weeping.

Some are adverbs, but they work for me.

The other words alienate women, they really do. A bitch is a well defined kind of person and Mary doesn't rise to that description. Too wussy.

Speaking as a woman, I have to say that she and the gov should never have been elected. There is a lot to be said for a cool head in an emergency. My husband was a doctor, a great one and one time during an emergency I asked him why he didn't get upset. He said, "Well, for one thing, you can't think."

This isn't the same NOPD that has been routinely investigated for corruption, is it?

No, you've got it backwards.

Corruption is assumed. They are investigated when they show signs of intergity or leadership.

She sounds French!! Like Jockey Chirakey! Cry and bitch about everything, make laws that prevent the federal, local and state govenrments to function by passing laws that don't make sense, criticizing anything that is in favor of the American people and the US Constitution. When Something happens blame somebody else.

The Democratic Mayor of New Orleans and the Democratic Governor and thei bord of Levees' are to blame. Follow the money. accorcing to some talking heads playing the blame game is useless -- BS!! Follow the money, who spent it and for what. It's time for heads to roll!! The Senator may be one of them, so what accept the responsibility of your decesions.
