Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."
"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."
It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.
The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."
"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."
Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.
In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.
While there are few comparisons between 9-11 & Katrina, there are vast differences in the LEADERSHIP between NY, NY and NO, LA.
Karl Rove better get off his butt and play politics/PR. The last time the WH sat on their laurels, was when Cindy Sheehan got on the scene and the WH inaction let he MSM defined the issue and it forced GWB to react. This is a pretty sad state of affairs when the US political system cannot stay united on a war and now a national natural disaster. Our international enemies are taking copious notes on our weaknesses. The political shenanigans of the Democrats/liberals are going to cost more US lives in the future.

The Formal request mention, of Sunday, is Sunday August 28. It asks for material and money, and for a federal clean up of the affected area.
Mr. Arthur G. Jones (of Lousiana) is named as the coordinating officer for the request.

Bush cannot get into this blame game stuff especially now but also in the future. If he did now the perception would be he's spending his time blaming people and not helping the relief efforts. They'll be a commission that will end up blaming just about everybody.

The N.O.P.D were abandoned by their superiors they had no bullet proof vests, to shield them from the looter's bullets,no patrol cars,no weapons to match what the criminals had; the chief was not once seen wading thru the flooded streets, The Mayor gives profanity laced radio interviews,if it was my son, father,uncle or husband I would be mad if they took a bullet from the worthless, scum thugs that long took over the streets before this horrific occurence.The dems will never call these people for what they are because it is not politically correct and to stay in power they need their votes.It amazes me they can get them to the polls for elections in buses, but couldn't find the same buses to evacuate them. And what Landrieu has succeeded in doing is calling attention to whatever bad behavior the local police have been engaged in. If I were a Louisianan, I'd be quite embarassed by my senior Senator.
Looks like the RATS are in full CYA mode. Their desperation to cover their butts is fully evident when one of them threatens physical violence against the President of the United States. Perhaps it's time to put Mary in the rubber room next to Cindy Sheehan.
