Mary Landrieu: I'll Punch Bush, 'Literally'
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 4, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Sen. Mary Landrieu threatened the president of the United States with physical violence on Sunday, saying that if he or any other government official criticizes New Orleans police for failing to keep civil order in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina - "I might likely have to punch him - literally."

"If one person criticizes [our sheriffs], or says one more thing, including the president of the United States, he will hear from me - one more word about it after this show airs and I - I might likely have to punch him - literally," Landrieu railed on "ABC's "This Week."

It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence.

The Louisiana Democrat blasted Bush for neglecting the New Orleans levees, and demanded that he stop using the disaster for "photo-ops."

"The president came here yesterday for a photo-op," Landrieu charged, while surveying the disaster scene via helicopter with "This Week" host George Stephanopoulos in tow. "He got his photo-op but we are never going to get this fixed if he does not send us help now."

Landrieu also blamed Bush for cutting funding for levee improvement, before bursting into tears on camera.

In recent days, Louisiana officials have been criticized for bungling evacuation and rescue efforts. One of those officials, Lt. Gov. Mitch Landrieu, is Sen. Landrieu's brother.

Per the article: "It is illegal to threaten the president with physical violence."

Haha, just to clarify things...

Somebody wrote, "Nagin is okay in my book. No flaming now, yall hear me?"

Maybe so, but why on this past Thursday, was he demanding school buses and drivers to come to Louisiana's aid, when he did nothing with Louisana's school buses to evacuate the people who had no other means to get out before the storm hit?

It is well known that a catatrosphe was inevitable. So why were there no local plans to evacuate people and places to transport them to, and people to take charge? It is plain to see the plan was, "Everybody for Himself", so those with their own means of transportation could get out, those who didn't but wanted to, were trapped.

And why did he not have a plan for the safety of those who could not leave? He knew full well the criminal element in his city.

I put the blame square on Louisiana's local politicians for this disaster. It was their job to take care of their constituents.

Call her what she is. A worthless public servant who is incompetent, making politics out of this, sniveling, back stabbing and whatever. She is incompetnent, craven, sly, cunning, self serving,

I think you covered it. All I could say is that she gets on my nerves. What is it with all these punching threats?

And, how are you doing? I have a friend near Baton Rouge who went to a Walmart to pick up some things last night and is now not sure she wants to leave her house again. She said that people were yelling, swearing fighting over food and that the city seems to have doubled in size. She is afraid.

"The real issue, particularly in New Orleans, is that no one anticipated the disintegration or the erosion of the civilian police force in New Orleans," General Blum said.

Some patrol officers said morale had been low on the force even before the hurricane. One patrolman said the complaints included understaffing and a lack of equipment.

Ditto... I suppose she'll claim all levee financial records were "sadly" lost in the flood anyway....:o)

Why would anyone want to critcize the New Orleans police? I mean just because they were too busy looting Walmarts to worry about doing their jobs... it's understandable, goodness knows they needed another boombox and more CDs.

And your current in a long string of democrat mayors elected to reduce corruption, well, he was probably too busy getting out of town to get thoses buses moving. Yehp, understandable.

And your Democrat Governor who is responsible for the National Guard etc., I'm sure she was too busy handwringing, weeping and looking for someone to do her job to do her job.

And then the lovely Ms.L, who likes to brag about how much pork she brought back to the state. Well, Mary, maybe if some of it had been used on the obvious problems rather than lining the pockets of the schmucks who put you in office you wouldn't be on national TV weeping and saying stupid things.

Talk about living up to a sterotype...

The good citizens of LA got the government they elected. Rather than pissing and moaning about why the Federal 'gubment wasn't there faster, they would be well served to ask where their local/state police and officials were and what happened to all the money already dumped down the sewer that is New Orleans went.

Consider these two bits of information -

1. Two thirds of New Orleans poulation is African-American.

2. Two thirds of the New Orleans Police Dept. abandoned their posts.

I'm sure it's just a coincidence, but...it makes me wonder.

No, she's right. This is a good approach for a Louisiana politician, to blame someone else for their state's problems. That way, they can get reelected and insure that nothing improves.

I had to turn off the latest crying spell with mary in the chopper coming emotionally unglued at the devastation she was witnessing. Her election was a very interesting election but weak women in government are not what government or the people it is supposed to represent, needs. Not now not ever. Time to put these blue state dems out to pasture, decide not to rebuild the underwater parts of NO and get on with the future instead of blaming bush and bemoaning the past.

the end of the Democrats as a political party.

What a glorious thought. We should all be so lucky.

Could it be there are things these officials don't want the Feds discovering if they start crawling around their backyard?

BINGO! There's lots of skeletons in the closet.

You just might have something there. Here's a link to a great article about the history violence, corruption, etc. that's plagued New Orleans through the years:

The Police are now commiting SUICIDE. (THIS WEEK w/ Steffie) Do you have a link for this?

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 3 - Reeling from the chaos of this overwhelmed city, at least 200 New Orleans police officers have walked away from their jobs and two have committed suicide, police officials said Saturday. Some officers officially told their superiors they were leaving, police officials said. Others worked for a while and then stopped showing up. Still others, for reasons not always clear, never made it in after the storm

"Bush cannot get into this blame game stuff especially now but also in the future. If he did now the perception would be he's spending his time blaming people and not helping the relief efforts. They'll be a commission that will end up blaming just about everybody."

I highly disagree. Any time the democrats start pointing fingers, it is vital to counter it at that time point by point. By the time the commission report comes out, the damage will be already done and any finding will be spun to the democrats, etc. Bush should stay neutral, but somebody in the republican party should be out with republican counter talking points.
