I've been looking for the smoking gun too. It's common knowledge around NO, but I'm not able to find more that talk about it on the net. All the other links on the page work except the two owned by the levee board. I'll keep looking.

And How exactly in this perfect world would our Members here find this thread.

I don't want it locked, I want it open for discussion, and additions by our members.

Feel free to start your own thread with the same links, and then request it be locked.

And it is not about being the focus of the blame game. It is about providing facts where we find them and letting our members know about those facts.

Sorry, but I disagree with your whole premise.

As for this:

You said:
" 2) Whatever facts we uncover through diligent searches we aren't going to change the attitudes and reporting styles of the MSM."

Tell that to CBS regarding the memo's..

I can't believe the buses are not a huge national topic by now!

Shows the power of the MSM to ignore news when it goes against their bias.

For years the media has operated under the assumption that the American people are basically stupid. Can you imagine how their stomachs sink when they come to a forum like this and find this kind of research being done by average Americans.

Agreed but ....

I understand what your are saying, and I have had a few tiffs with insensitive, thoughtless posters who use the forum as a masturbation session for massaging their biases. But it is free speech we're dealing with here. The threads are a resource for other thoughtful people who then undertake more research, and we are further enlightened. Free Republic wasn't the only internet vehicle I was referring to with regards to the dissemination of the information. Many blogs have published similar findings and are more able to control their content and comments. The point I think, is that there is more to be gained by open airing of the facts, than not. I do see your point however.

They're idiots in that city who still refuse to leave as rescuers beg them to abandon their flooded homes. Some are just to damn stupid and others want to steal everything they can until the law forces them out. I have pity for the good people who left but I have little pity for the thugs who stayed.

Not what you were looking for, but interesting. This is from an article dated Aug21, 2005 NO Levee Board Lawsuit
Levee Board appointees of the past five governors have made countless appearances in Baton Rouge in an effort to erase what they say has become a false perception among many legislators that the board stole the spillway land from Plaquemines Parish residents.
A report prepared by Carmouche for lawmakers in 2000 showed that only about 3 percent of the land had to be expropriated. Most property owners were more than happy to unload what they thought was worthless land, the report said.
The report also addressed what the board said were false charges that the spillway has rarely been used for flood-control purposes, offering evidence that the marshland was used 16 times between 1927 and 1984 to divert water from the Mississippi River.
Meanwhile, repeated efforts by the board to secure financial aid from the Legislature have failed. Six years ago, New Orleans voters overwhelmingly rejected the board's request for nearly $9 million a year in new property taxes

I hope that sooner or later the MSM discovers that New Orleans did have a written emergency plan to cover the evacuation of the poor, but that the idiot mayor of New Orleans ignored it, and allowed the evacuation buses to be ruined by the flood, forgotten.

The city leaders had at least two full days to use these hundreds of buses to evac the poor, exactly as their own emergency management plan called for.

Here's the southeast Louisiana evac plan supplement, most recently revised in 2000. Go to page 13, read paragraph 5. It states:

5. The primary means of hurricane evacuation will be personal vehicles. School and municipal buses, government-owned vehicles and vehicles provided by volunteer agencies may be used to provide transportation for individuals who lack transportation and require assistance in evacuating.

Hello Travis

Idiocy from top to bottom. The politicians in Louisiana did nothing, the citizens who stayed did nothing, a total cluster fu$%% and all anyone can do is point fingers at the president.

The president has his good points and bad points like the border problem but the New Orleans death toll is the fault of those who stayed and the politicians and law enforcement who should have force those who stayed to leave as requested by the president.

This is why I love Free Republic. There's always somebody who keeps track and can zero in on the relevant information. I've noticed that over 2000 people have viewed your article - that is great news!

I was so frustrated - I just kept sending msgs to everybody that it was THE GOVERNOR who was supposed to have a plan and implement the plan.

If people remember correctly .. during all the hurricanes in Florida - only one name was the first thing mentioned - GOVERNOR BUSH .. but when the Governor is a democrat - they excuse her incompetence. NOT THIS TIME .. she has been nailed by several people. Col Hunt did a nice job of it on O'Reilly the other night.

I've noticed that even though there are THOUSANDS of possible deaths - there's no call for her impeachment or for her to resign. Yet, 1800 deaths in a war - and Bush is the butcher of the worst kind.

Once again .. America is watching as the democrats excuse their party members and only hold republicans accountable. It's not working!! Thanks in part to people like you who put together this report - PROVING the Governor's total incompentance.
