I, for one, am VERY worried about the refugees/evacuees' impact on my beloved state of Texas. How soon before Texas becomes a blue state?
I know we need to help, but let's try not to let them get all too comfortable. here.
NO and La became what they are (were?) because of combined effects of the the policies of all of the politicians who were elected since statehood. I don't want to see a massive block of people voting for and supporting corrupt/inept/leftist/Democrat politicians and changing Texas. Texas politics are a long way from perfect, but by and large we do demand accountability in our leadership.
Political accountability in Louisiana seems to be non-existent even today.
"It's Bush's fault"!
Her comments were offensive.
Somebody needs to tell her that. Disgraceful.
The Republicans are shooting themselves in both feet.
Talk like gets a laugh at the River Oaks Country Club, but it doesn't play well on national news.
They don't HAVE to pick a fight with her - just ignore the babblings of an old woman and not afford her some kind of celebrity status because of the job her husband used to have.
GHWB is doing support work, GWB is in charge, Laura smiles for the cameras and does First-Lady-type stuff, the granddaughters are keeping low profiles, and Granny is making weird statements. Five-out-of-six ain't bad.
"God saw the misery of his people in New Orleans and just shut the whole thing down! Now, are you going to fret and fear and complain or are you going to thank God for your deliverance?"
Good thing it was a black preacher saying that, because anyone else would be tarred, feathered, and run out of town!
Texans divide people into two groups: those that live in Texas, and those that wish they did.
Thank you........just two weeks now and I am already enjoying living in the great state of Texas.
Governor Perry is the son of a old ranchin' family. He's a well educated man; there's alot of us that aren't too fond of him. However, what's he's done for the Louisiana evacuee's is impressive.
They do ALL say they want to stay in TEXAS. They have never in their life been given this type of attention and kindness. I was blown away by their tolerance with the whole situation.
I think you're right: the MSM don't want to fight Barbara Bush.
Oh....I see. Well that explains alot. I didn't read it that way at all.
I read it that Texas' hospitality and outpouring of care and assistance was working out very well for them because many of them had noone where to go.
But...I can also see how others might see something else. That is unfortunate. Maybe she will offer a clarification for those folks that are offended.
You are so right. I won't forget my dad being humiliated by his dad (originally a very tight-lipped Dane who rarely cracked a smile but in his dotage developed a sense of humor) making a comment about the overweight nurse in the hospital. He'd been a contractor and he made a comment about how well the hospital was built ... when my dad asked him, "Why, " he pointed to the nurse and said "it holds HER up!"
Anyway, now it's my dad who's a bit hard of hearing, newly relocated to be near us in Hawaii, who now makes comments of his own about the size of some of the locals.
*sniff sniff*
Hmmm...
Get lost, troll.
Barbara Bush is only repeating what evacuees are saying!
Our local paper quotes some of those in our shelters saying they want to stay here and start over.....Even the Houston Comical has carried such quotes.....
Seems the media (Drudge included) don't know how to handle it when people tell the truth!!!
Which are these two?
Is she a criminal, a looter, a murder, or welfare recipient?
How about him?
Did you notice a lot of the people making the stupid comments in this thread are not from Texas.....or are transplants here themselves!
Look at the positive comments.....they proudly display the Texas flag!
An attitude to admire.
I'll drink to that.
We'll probably wind up turning a lot of 'em into Texans.
Then when they come back from taking those construction jobs
in LA, they can be just like the rest of us and remark on how glad they are to be home from there!
