Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2005 1:01 p.m. EDT Rush Limbaugh: Katrina's Lessons

America's top talk radio host Rush Limbaugh said Tuesday that the Hurricane Katrina disaster and the fingerpointing that has ensued offers the nation some profound lessons.

"What we've seen in New Orleans is first and foremost the utter failure of generations after generation after generation of the entitlement mentality," Limbaugh began at the top of his show.

Flood victims had been doubly victimized by the perception that government would somehow save them from nature's rage, he said.

"They had no idea what to do because they've been told somebody else was going to fix it." After fostering dependency among the citizens of New Orleans, Limbaugh said state and local officials failed to respond to the dependency they helped create.

"You've all seen the pictures of the school buses and the municipal buses that are flooded and ruined," he noted, referring to widely circulated photos of buses that sat idle throughout the storm just a mile away from the Superdome.

"We know there was an utter failure to execute an evacuation plan that was long in place," he said, before charging: "We're looking here at utter incompetence - total incompetence from the mayor of New Orleans and the Gov. of Louisiana."

"[The flood victims] were told to go to the Superdome but even then they had to walk to the Superdome" as the storm battered the city. "And they had to bring their own food and water to the Superdome," he noted

The top talker didn't spare federal officials, saying that another lesson of Katrina is that "large bureaucracies that grow ever larger by the year cannot handle circumstances like this."

"We have also learned that the utter failure of large bureaucracies only begets hearings by those bureaucracies which will serve really one purpose: And that is to give themselves excuses and reasons to further enlarge those bureaucracies - which will only compound our problem."

Only one government bureaucracy functioned well under the stress of the Katrina crisis, Limbaugh said: The U.S. military.

Listening now. Rush is hitting it out of the park, as usual. The media will never criticize a liberal democrat mayor or governor, and especially a black one. Clinton had 8 years to fix levees but did nothing either, but will never be pointed out.

Only one government bureaucracy functioned well under the stress of the Katrina crisis, Limbaugh said: The U.S. military.

That is because from day one in the military, every person is taught that the senior person at teh scene is "in charge" and that persn is expected to make command decisions whether that person is a general or a corporal.

The night before Katrina hit - I sat and watched the Mayor of New Orleans being interviewed by the local news. He was sitting at the news desk and asked the weatherman, "what can we expect if the levees break"?

I swear to you - that's what he actaully asked the guy !!!

The man was completely clueless.

No one forget - it was President Bush who ordered the mayor to evacuate the city.

The media is so racially terrified - they can't see the truth

Exactly my thoughts when I heard about the 'dome-dwellers'. The simple truth is the government can't do the job, and the only means to surviving a crisis like this is the much reviled 'rugged individualism'. It's one of those black-and-white, overly 'simplistic' truths the liberals despise-at some point, we are ultimately responsible for ourselves. That's what families are for.

Thanks, Rush. I appreciate that.

We've flown in a HUGE generator, FEMA personnel, and sister services' personnel. Mostly we just pass gas (in-flight refueling of rescue choppers).

In-flight refueling from a fixed-wing aircraft to a rotary-wing aircraft is one of the most unnatural acts man has invented.

"You've all seen the pictures of the school buses and the municipal buses that are flooded and ruined," ........ "We know there was an utter failure to execute an evacuation plan that was long in place,"

We saw that. We know that.

However, the vast majority of the American public outside of FreeRepublic and other conservative Internet forums is totally clueless about these facts because the liberal news media is keeping those fact TOP SECRET.

New Orleans died and the Left lied!

Get ready, the vicious politicization of Hurricane Katrina is just in its infancy:

My daughter has coined a name by which to remember this disaster correctly

The New Orleans LACK-u-vation.

O'Reilly is a bit of a jerk every night, that's why I watch & enjoy his show.

I enjoy Rush because he's nearly always right.

I saw a video of that for the first time the other day. I've never seen mid-air refueling of helicopters and it looks dangerous as all heck...rotary blades are dangerous enough, but matching the airspeeds? I didn't think helicopters were as fast as jets..but what do I know?

Thank God for the best pilots in the world over our skies.
