Troops find grisly scenes in New Orleans (find "at least" 40 mutilated bodies in convention center)

Troops find grisly scenes in New Orleans

NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Troops scouring New Orleans for survivors and victims reported finding at least 40 mutilated bodies in the Convention Center refugee center.

Arkansas National Guardsman Mikel Brooks told the New Orleans Times Picayune many of the dead were elderly, or showed signs of trauma.

"There's another one in the freezer, a 7-year-old with her throat cut," he said.

As the searches became more organized since the Aug. 29 onslaught of Hurricane Katrina, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said repair crews had patched the ruptured levee along the 17th Street Canal and had begun pumping out water.

The failure of the levee system after the storm left about 80 percent of the city flooded up to 20 feet deep, and Corps officials said it would take nearly three months to drain some neighborhoods, CNN reported.

Deputy Police Chief Warren Riley told reporters that thousands of people -- many of them with pets -- are insisting on staying in what he called "a hazard."

"We advise people that this city has been destroyed. It has been completely destroyed," Riley said.

There was a Democrat Mayor, A Democrat Governor, and all the blame lol, rests on the Republican President?

The first line of defense is local, then State, the Federal.

This is hogwash

It is the Mayors fault first. Then the Governor.

Six months from now, when there's been time to digest all the data, it will more than likely come out that there WERE rapes, murders, and robberies, but not as many as the more lurid stories would suggest.

Yeh and the Lt. Col. of the Texas National Guard who I heard interviewed on WOAI (1200/San Antonio) yesterday was just lying when he said his troops were in many firefights from the very first. They were some of the first NG troops in. The Texas MP's were paired with a unit from Arkansas. He spoke of having to "engage" people who were "engaging" the Guard troops. I suspect the troops mostly got the better end of those deals, but still, they were shot at, and not infrequently.

The interveiw was via Sat Phone, which cut off before the interview was complete. They were going to try to have more on today's show. That was about 6-7 PM CDT yesterday.

Nagin's buses should have taken New Orleans' citizens away from the city.

My daughter has coined a name by which to remember this disaster correctly, just as we remember the Great Chicago Fire.

The Great New Orleans LACK-u-vation.

I predict Texans won't put up with this kind of behavior. You know they don't hesitate to put the death penalty into action. The scum that did this need to be ratted out and executed immediately.

Yes, I heard that man, a brain trust he isn't! Sad to think that people can cling to falsehoods when reality stares them in the face. Must be tough going.

You (or someone) pinged me when you posted: "......you're going to run out of a lot of things. It is pretty much every man, woman and child for himself..."

There were rapes and murders inside the CC, you said the story of mutilated bodies was BS, I consider that pure BS, civilized human beings do not react that way, nor is it every man for himself just because he runs out of "THINGS."

In dire times of imminent danger, if one does not look out for the helpless and defenseless, mankind is in danger of becoming less than animals and turning into monsters themselves. And it is the monsters who would mutilate bodies.

Bodies found piled in freezer at Convention Center

By Brian Thevenot
Staff writer

Arkansas National Guardsman Mikel Brooks stepped through the food service entrance of the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center Monday, flipped on the light at the end of his machine gun, and started pointing out bodies.

"Don't step in that blood - it's contaminated," he said. "That one with his arm sticking up in the air, he's an old man." Then he shined the light on the smaller human figure under the white sheet next to the elderly man.

"That's a kid," he said. "There's another one in the freezer, a 7-year-old with her throat cut."

He moved on, walking quickly through the darkness, pulling his camouflage shirt to his face to screen out the overwhelming odor. "There's an old woman," he said, pointing to a wheelchair covered by a sheet. "I escorted her in myself. And that old man got bludgeoned to death," he said of the body lying on the floor next to the wheelchair.

Brooks and several other Guardsmen said they had seen between 30 and 40 more bodies in the Convention Center's freezer. "It's not on, but at least you can shut the door," said fellow Guardsman Phillip Thompson.

...

Of the four bodies that lay just inside the food service entrance of the Convention Center, the woman in the wheelchair rattled Brooks the most. When he found her two days before among the sea of suffering in front of the Convention Center where one of the last refugee camps evacuated, her husband sat next to her. He had only one concern when Brooks and some of his comrades carted her away.

"Bring me back my wheelchair," he recalled the man telling him.

One of the bodies, they said, was a girl they estimated to be 5 years old. Though they could not confirm it, they had heard she was gang-raped.

"There was an old lady that said the little girl had been raped by two or three guys, and that she had told another unit. But they said they couldn't do anything about it with all the people there," Brooks said. "I would have put him in cuffs, stuck him in the freezer and left him there."

Brooks and his unit came to New Orleans not long after serving a year of combat duty in Iraq, taking on gunfire and bombs, while losing comrades with regularity. Still, the scene at the Convention Center, where they conducted an evacuation this week, left him shell-shocked.

"I ain't got the stomach for it, even after what I saw in Iraq," said Brooks, referring to the freezer where the bulk of the bodies sat decomposing. "In Iraq, it's one-on-one. It's war. It's fair. Here, it's just crazy. It's anarchy. When you get down to killing and raping people in the streets for food and water … And this is America. This is just 300 miles south of where I live."

+++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

So there are your witnesses, unless you think Mikel Brooks is lying, along with the NG Lt. Col. from Texas referenced above?

The local 'Rats MUST be held accountable because this will be a political battle of historic importance:

The Demagogues are already trying to create a revived left-wing political movement out of hurricane relief. They will try to turn as many 'refugees' as possible into new Cindy Sheehans. We can anticipate that as many of them as are found to be reasonably articulate and willing to spew DNC/Moveon talking points will, within a matter of weeks or months at most, be 'mobilized' into media and political campaigns all over the country.

Mutilated bodies? The high winds were not in New Orleans only flooding.

I wonder if the looters started killing people for the fun of it? Some of the looters were high on drugs.

Orginally reported as a boy

A 7-year old girl with short hair can easily be mistaken for a boy

Would people ritually mutilate the dead in the kind of voodoo prevalent there. Or I could be flippant and ask who was sticking pins in a map of New Orleans while reciting incantations to the devil.

If you kill somebody by beating or hacking them to death, the bodies will be "mutilated". Think of the Rwanda massacres

On a pulled thread, there was an account of some elderly who recounted that the thugs in the shelter said they were going to kill them because the elderly were being given priority for buses, and the thugs were not going to allow these to leave before them. The racial composition of the elderly was not stated.

We were in the driveway and I told him to come directly to my house in the event of a calamity for protection or simply that he should go stock up. She went ballistic (no pun intended) and almost was red with anger at me. I asked her little fat white A#%$%^ what she would do if faced with three men wanting to rape her and steal her loot. She said - "No Guns" I said - ok - what will you use to fend for yourself? She was silent and angry.

Leftism is easier to understand if you look at it as a kind of mental illness that refuses to confront reality

This is why I won't open my home to any of the NO refugees. I wouldn't know their backgrounds nor would I know the backgrounds of any of their friends and family who might show up. Just not a risk taker, I guess.

Huh. I am not sure how I pinged you. I'm sorry if I did, because I was answering four very specific questions in post 52..

The story of the rapes and mutilated bodies is, as far as I can tell, uncorroborated at this point. That does not mean it is not true. It just means that rumor runs rampant during disasters and I feel that going into hysterics over things that we don't know for sure is not helpful.

The BS comment was aimed at the story that prisoners were released by Mayor Nagin before the storm. It has been pretty thoroughly debunked here on FR. It DID NOT happen. In fact, prisoners where tied together and sat on the freeway for quite sometime. That WAS a rumor it appears. I just don't want to fall for it again.

My comment about "every man, woman and child for himself" was related specifically to the power of the Federal Government to protect you during the initial phases of a crisis, not related to our personal MORAL responsibility as citizens to do our best to protect the weakest among us.

I agree with what you say completely. But I think you seriously misunderstood the points I was making because they were so far out of context.

I am sorry for the confusion.

Don't be gullible folks. This is BS.

This is from place where they shoot at the people who come to rescue them.

So I don't think it's BS.
