New Orleans: The Harsh Moral and Political Realities
The Reality Check ^ | 03 September 2005 | Thomas Brewton

Posted on 09/07/2005 10:29:03 AM PDT by Lando Lincoln

The barbaric savagery of roaming bands in New Orleans, looting, raping, and murdering, is fundamentally attributable to the atheistic secularity increasingly imposed upon the United States by liberal-socialists during the past 80 years.

What I am about to write is not intended to be racist.

But it is a fact that the violence in New Orleans is is being committed by gangs of blacks, mostly against other blacks. It is also a fact that the city itself has a very high population percentage of blacks, that the mayor and most administrative officials and the bulk of the civil service employees are blacks, as are members of the police force. These facts make it hard to establish a case that black violence is a justified reaction to white oppression.

What then is the cause?

Some commentators, especially in Europe, have declared that blacks' lawlessness in New Orleans demonstrates the insufficiency of welfare-state benefits. The opposite is true.

The answer is rather the liberal-socialist culture that has relentlessly pushed principles of so-called social justice that have here, as everywhere else they have been tried, eroded the foundations of civilization. The socialism of the French Revolution produced the Reign of Terror that slaughtered more than 70,000 French citizens. In the Soviet Union it resulted in the liquidation of an estimated 20 million Russians. In Germany, socialism produced Hitler's National Socialist Holocaust.

The horrors of lawlessness we are witnessing in New Orleans are simply the inevitable effects of liberal-socialism in action, in the same ghastly tradition.

Specifically:

* The atheistic rejection of morality and the corresponding pragmatic philosophy that all that counts is getting what you want, by whatever means will accomplish your desires. This philosophical legacy from John Dewey is the looters' code.

* The theory that people would all be benevolent and there would be no aggression, crime, or wars, if all property were socialized, that is, placed under complete regulatory control of intellectual councils. This permits black "leaders" to teach their constituents that, if they don't have everything they desire, it's because whitey stole it from them.

* The corollary that criminals are therefore the victims of a society that permits the private ownership of property. By that construction, the gangs with AK-47s, who are stealing everything in sight and assaulting or murdering anyone who stands in the way, are being impelled to their behavior by blacks and whites who legitimately work for a living and save for their families' futures.

* The atheistic and secular belief that, theoretically lacking moral souls, humans are governed only by hedonistic sensual gratification and grasping for material goods. This is the basis of the welfare-state, which intentionally undermines moral rectitude and self-reliance to the end of making as many people as possible dependent upon politicians for their daily bread.

At the outset I stated that this is not intended to be a racist attack. To emphasize the point, let me remind us that we all are equally children of God and equally cursed by Original Sin, that all of us have the potential for good or evil. The civilizing effects of religious morality are the only barriers against evil.

In particular, with regard to the black community, we must remember that in the 1920s, before the Roosevelt New Deal, black communities in places like Harlem were hardworking, law abiding, and upwardly striving people who valued education. Their families were intact, without the rampant sexual promiscuity and single-parent family rates that plague both whites and blacks today. Most importantly, those communities were anchored by strong black churches that taught a culture of moral rectitude.

All of that was wiped out by the successive waves of welfare-state paternalism championed by white liberals and cynically adopted by black political "leaders." Liberals have, in effect, remanded blacks in communities like New Orleans to slavery.

So long as the majority of blacks remain slaves to the bureaucracy of liberal-socialist government, we may expect to see repetitions of the riots, looting, burning, and murders of 1965 in Watts, 1967 in Detroit and Newark, 1992 elsewhere in Los Angeles, and now in New Orleans.

Some commentators, especially in Europe, have declared that blacks' lawlessness in New Orleans demonstrates the insufficiency of welfare-state benefits.

European socialism bred the indolent attitude that left thousands of seniors behind in stifling cities to die from the heat while their families (and leaders) went off to the country on vacation several years ago. Yet, the parallel has seemed to elude the EuroLeft.

Excellent read, thanks for posting. The sad reality is, even with conservative leadership, the liberal effects will take decades to overcome.

Well said! From the plantation owner to the bureaucracy!

Believe it or not, Europe's seniors come to Spain for treatment. The expressions is, "sun, sand and hospital".

ping.
...and hoping Katrina has opened up"a can of worms" per se.
Allowing people to clump togethr in huge bunches of welfare dole is not helping people improve their physical and mental state or living conditions or enjoyment of life.
It only creates more of what was exposed at the superdome.....

Someone suggested that Nagin's poorer constituents were afraid to evacuate, because they were afraid someone would steal their monthly welfare checks.

Does anyone know if that is true?

Do most people have direct deposit or don't they?

Any way --this man-made component of the disaster, the failure to evacuate -- should be called the Great Lack-vacuation Calamity.

or the Nagin/Blanco Lack-vacuation disaster.

It struck me that the slaves in early America were enslaved in the physical sense but their spirit and their souls were free to go wherever their hearts and minds permitted. Those in NO were physically free to go where ever they pleased but their spirit and souls have been held down and enslaved by the system they thought to be their provider and protector. Then when the greatest need presented itself they found themselves abandoned, or at least sorely disappointed.

Where is this "conservative leadership" you mention?

Surely you don't mean the budget-busting Republicans now in power, do you?

In my experience, most welfare dependents don't have bank accounts. This is the reason for so many 'check-cashing (and taking a cut)' agencies exist.

The article is pucky of horse. These people have been with us for eons. The problem is that liberty and freedom liberate them to be as they are. There is about 5% of the population that messes it up for the rest of us.

these 5% need to be institutionalized. the right does it with prisons, and the Left does it with welfare. I prefer the Rights approach. We need a Devils Island. the problem with the Lefts approach they are still here and breeding more who could be productive citizens. The welfare reform the Republicans passed over ten years ago worked well to get the non criminal people out of the welfare habit. Need more of that.

It is complicated.

My guess is that many do not even have checking accounts...that's why you see so many of these "check cashing" businesses in-and-around poorer neighborhoods across the country. People need to have a place to go to cash their checks and they're willing to pay whatever fee these businesses will charge for the convenience.

Why... YES! That *IS* the most astonishingly stupid thing I've read all week! Thanks for asking.

Most, if not all, people using check cashing services can no longer get a checking account because of past check fraud activity.
