My father was on that flight. And a lot of family members were on the committee in choosing it. I doubt, seriously, that this was in any way trying to appease the Islamofascists...trust me. Honestly, I think it is a beautiful tribute. Chris Driscoll Proud son of Patrick Driscoll, Flight 93 passenger Your vote certainly counts more than mine.

Can we, as conservatives, please not become hyterical ninnies like the looney left? Please?I don't think expressing an opinion on the appropriateness of a memorial design makes anybody hyterical.

The badge of the Jordan National Red Crescent Society (FYI: Red Crescent is the Middle Eastern Red Cross.)

Looks like a ripoff of the Vietnam Memorial with its low profile. How unoriginal!
What is the significance of the crescent in the design?
I can't wait to hear the designers try to talk their way out of this!

Some of these posts are hysterical in tone.

Actually, the symbol for Islam is a crescent and star. The International Red Cross and Red Crescent Emblem
the Christian cross can be very generic and so can the Islamic crescent...you don't need the star... if you check out Islamic flag you see crescent in all shapes and form with and with out stars..

I didn't think you could address the point, Miss Direction. Heh..that's clever. I'll use that, but it doesn't apply to me.
I happen to think it's a non-issue that merely serves as a distraction.
I don't stop enjoying rainbows or believing in them as a reminder of God's promise because the gays have adopted rainbows as a symbol.
And I won't stop eating crescent rolls, enjoying a crescent moon, or praying for the Crescent City just because part of a circle also happens to be a symbol of Islam.
Quite frankly, the fact that I even have to defend that position gives me more pause for concern than the design of the memorial.
You are free to disagree as you have the need.

When you fly over the area where Muslim Extremists killed innocent people in the name of Islam on the day america was attacked you will see a symbol of their religion.
That is a horrible disgrace and an outright insult to every single person who died on Flight 93, to every person who died on September 11th, and to every person who has died fighting terrorism since... not to mention to our entire nation.

See post #18.
One of the victims' family members is a freeper and disagrees with you.
Think about that.

That doesn't change my opinion one bit. I am sorry if that offends someone, but the use of the crescent symbol still makes me sick.

The memorial is just a semi-circle. Come on it's even called the "Crescent of Embrace".... hell if you put up something call the "Cross of Remembrance" the ACLU would sue
To: chris_in_nj
I agree. I don't think this was intentional. I live in the area and I'm sure they didn't realize the connection however the connection still exists. What do you think the islamofascists would think about this design?

Well .. I'm glad some of the family members love it - but my opinion still stands!
I would not want my loved one's heroic efforts to save the WH or the Capital building shrouded with a symbol of Islam.

I missed that. The name is a problem. But I don't think the design is.

The issue is not whether anybody can ever "enjoy" a crescent again. It's whether a crescent is an appropriate symbol for a memorial to people killed in the name of islam.
You're entitled to your own opinion on that issue, I simply don't agree with it.

Well, if the families are OK with it, I am too. Being the the architectural field, I dug a little deeper. If you look at the site plan for the design, it doesn't really look much like the "crescent" of the ROP flavor to me.

But, I can see where the name wasn't really thought through. I can tell you from experience that a LOT of changes will be made to this design before it ever opens. We have had whole projects change completely from concept to build. I would venture to say this will be no different.
