Washington - The criticism of FEMA Director Michael Brown continues. Now his credentials are facing new questions.
Time Magazine reports his official bio and online legal profile have discrepancies. Brown's bio on the FEMA Web site said he oversaw emergency services in Edmond, Oklahoma. But a spokeswoman for the city tells Time that Brown's position was "more like an intern."
A FEMA official says Brown did start as an intern, but became an assistant city manager and had a distinguished record.
The magazine also reports Brown's profile on the Web site FindLaw-dot-com lists him as an "outstanding Political Science Professor" at Central State University. The school says he was a student.
In New Orleans, police say just about everyone willing to leave the city is gone. Now officers say they're prepared to carry out the mayor's order to forcibly remove the estimated 5,000 to 10,000 people who remain in their homes.
The residents are being forced out because of sanitary conditions, a lack of utilities and the inability to effectly protect them from harm.
Meantime, President Bush says the federal government will stand by Hurricane Katrina's victims as they rebuild. But he says more money will be needed. Yesterday, Bush signed a 52 billion dollar relief package, pushing federal funding to more than 62 billion dollars.
Clinton used FEMA to place his cronies as well, so both parties are guilty. Sadly it takes a tragedy to point out that perhaps this position is more important than thought. And I think Brown, while not perfect, has done a capable job. They could have pointed out his resume during the Florida hurricanes, they didn't do it then.
There will be plenty of time to sort all of this out. For now, I hate to disappoint the knee-jerkers, but Brown isn't going anywhere.
His resume also says that he went into Cambodia during Christmas.

The difference is anyone with or without credentials can get elected. However, it is very important for senior level appointees be on the up and up on their credentials when they are appointed, and their needs to be a process in place to fact check someone.
Really, this is a separate issue. I do not think the response of FEMA is or will be a significant issue. Who would send anyone in an area where no military presence exists, or local cops left their duties, in light of the roving bunch of murderous raping thugs are on the streets? The bottom line on this minute thread of contention is Bush's appointments should not be embarassing him, or making him look bad.
I don't expect Brown to have done anything different because I haven't seen internal memos on his actions have not come to light. You are right that this is a state and local issue. THE F-ING CITY IS BUILT IN A BOWL!!!!!!!!
Though Sen. Clinton touted former FEMA director Witt's experience, she made no mention of Raymond 'Buddy' Young, whom her husband appointed to the post of Southwest Regional FEMA Director in 1993.
Mr. Young, a former Arkansas state trooper, won the promotion after heading up efforts to discredit other state troopers whose allegations fueled the Troopergate scandal. Had Katrina struck during the 1990s, Young would have had jurisdiction over disaster relief efforts for New Orleans.

THe press is worried about his resume?
Rather than the Gov of La's decision not to feed or water her citizens who were sent to a hell without capacity to maintain order. People died, were raped, murdered in the Gov's shelter and the press is tracking down resumes?

Your post exposes the obvious; Brown is the fall guy for the democrats failure in Louisiana. The idea that we would be asking for accountability from Mike Brown, "before" Mayor Nagin, Governor Blanco...and perhaps more importantly, Terry Ebbert is a joke.
In fact, Ebbert may be the most responsible since he was the city's Homeland Security Director, whose responsibilities were to coordinate regional efforts between the city, state and federal agencies:

The media treat Ebbert as if somehow HE were an expert and a Cassandra who forecast the terrible future -- but went unheeded by the eeeeeevil Bush administration.
Well, TIME didn't look at his resume. They looked at the biography on the FEMA web site. The web site says Brown was an assistant city manager. A representative from the city says he was an assistant to the city manager.
A representative of FEMA says he started as an intern and worked his way up.
Now the government keeps careful records on every employee and obviously records their job title and their duties.
Why is it that this reporter didn't look farther into this issue rather than reporting contradictory stories without checking into this farther?
You would think that a responsible journalist wouldn't want to libel someone with such accusations without getting the facts.
And this is why the media is a fraud.

"Ebbert is a retired U.S. Marine Corps colonel who formerly served as director of security for Boeing Petroleum Services as well as executive director of the New Orleans Police Foundation, so he brings both private-sector security knowledge and law enforcement know-how to the position.
Ebbert noted that, "I have responsibility for coordinating with all the federal and state agencies on behalf of the city in all areas of homeland security. I have operational control of the police department, fire department, and the office of emergency preparedness, and I report directly to the mayor."

Louisiana is strengthening homeland security in a number of ways, says retired Colonel Jadwin (Jay) Mayeaux, Jr., the division chief for operations and homeland security within the homeland security division of the Louisiana Office of Emergency Preparedness (LOEP). One initiative is the Rapid Response Force, a group of more than 1,200 National Guard soldiers in 11 teams in nine metropolitan areas, including New Orleans. This on-call force can respond immediately to a crisis and reinforce on-site personnel, says Mayeaux.
Another initiative is the Special Reaction Team (SRT), three groups of National Guard soldiers (most of whom work for civilian law enforcement agencies) who "help train and work as a cadre for the Rapid Reaction Force," according to Mayeaux. They can assist and augment civilian authorities and train soldiers in MP tasks. Both groups have been called in to assist New Orleans several times (most recently during college basketball's Final Four weekend) to help the city beef up its law enforcement efforts."
With all the cries I hear over Mike Brown and his "resume" I find it ironic that the men with a similar (if not more relevant) job description in Louisiana have as much or more of the very experience that some are now demanding of the FEMA director. Yet, even with all this experience and so-called preparidness, none of this city's plans were evident before Hurricane Katrina came through.
Even more disgusting is that these very people were the one's responsible for coordinating with FEMA "before" this crisis hit...and as we are now learning, didn't do that. This is the group responsible for failing to let food and water into the city. The media needs to be exposed for the poltical hacks they are.
Last year, FEMA handed out money in South Florida where they had minimal damage. It was quite a chunk of change. The taxpayers will never see it again.
