Bush Forgives Sandy Berger?
NewsMax.com ^ | Sept. 9, 2005 | Carl Limbacher

Posted on 09/09/2005 2:37:36 PM PDT by Carl/NewsMax

If President Bush is upset that former national security advisor Sandy Berger destroyed top secret terrorism documents in a bid to obstruct the 9/11 Commission investigation, he sure has a strange way of showing it.

In June, two months after Berger pled guilty to what some say is the most serious crime ever committed by a senior White House official - Bush invited him to the White House, where, according to the Associated Press, the disgraced former Clinton advisor was trotted out to voice support for CAFTA legislation.

Yesterday D.C. Magistrate Judge Deborah Robinson rejected a plea worked out for Berger by the Bush Justice Department, saying the $10,000 fine and 3-year security suspension arranged by Public Integrity Section chief Noel Hillman was way too lenient.

Robinson quintupled the fine and sentenced Berger to 100 hours of community service, saying that Hillman's recommendation didn't "sufficiently reflect the seriousness of the offense."

President Bush, however, apparently didn't agree. Two months after Mr. Hillman filed the ridiculously light plea bargain, Bush rewarded him with an appointment to the federal bench.

Good thing Judge Robinson's sentence left Mr. Berger's security suspension in place. Otherwise he might be on the short list for FEMA director.

"I suspect that at that level, everyone knows where every one else's bodies are buried. So unless you are prepared to deliver a knockout punch, its probably best to be polite."

I think that the President knows that he did it after being asked by someone else - whether it was for loyalty or because someone had something hanging over his head. Maybe he was boxed into a corner and the WH knows what really happened. It is still wrong of course, but I don't think we know the whole story either.

Bush seems to have extra affection for the most criminal of the rats like Kennedy, Clinton and Berger. Sometimes I think it's his intention to demoralize conservatives.

Does anyone still think Terrence Reed's Book; "Compromised, Bush, Clinton, Cocaine" is tin foil hat stuff?

This book started me on the total corruption of top government. There is no doubt that GW is compromised. There is no doubt that the next president & the next & so on will be compromised. The exception was Ronald Reagan & he was feared by many because of that. That was the reason when Pat Buchanan ran that just when his campaign got going these elites shut it down. They didn't own him. Just as the book mentioned & will be proven correct in later years, the fact Bubba got off with nothing & the Hildabeast is on tract to become the next president & totally ruin this nation for the sake of the One World Order.

Talk about compromised, Buchanan was actually employed by CNN at one time.

I'm sorry, but that's the last straw. The republican party and it's leaders are cowards and really no different than the democrats by how they protect each other (the political class). Maybe it's true what the left says about Bush that he's drinking again, cuz his actions make no sense.

They'd better learn, and quick. "We the people" have about had our fill of this crap

Couldn't agree with you more. The political class needs to be reminded who signs their paychecks.

Magistrate Judges are usually the newbies in the Federal judiciary.

On another thread, I suggested that a Magistrate was somewhere between a Meter Maid and a Justice of the Peace. This case was handled as a misdemeanor instead of a felony which was a travesty of justice. Words cannot express my contempt for everyone involved in this whitewash.

Had enough? Sure, but we are hamstrung by the media's way of taking down any candidate outside of the two-party system. So we end up with either light left or far left now. I've gotten very pessimistic about the reality of what the GOP is. Like the blacks and the DEMs, the party knows we have no other place to go. Oh yeah, we will pull the lever on election day, but when the rubber meets the road, sorry, more compromise.

WE NEED A REAL CONSERVATIVE IN OFFICE...but I'm not holding my breath. Keeping the DEMS off the Supreme Court (how about six Ginsburgs as a problem?) remains my biggest goal, which is why I will continue to vote GOP, light left or not...

OK .... turn the other cheek ... I can understand that. But where does it say that you can't kick them in the balls while you're turning your head? I love ya Dubya, but you're not dealing with people who have honest philosophical different points of view ... you're dealing with gutter dwelling politicians who value political power above family, honor, or country. Just once, please, for me ... instead of turning your cheek, kick them in the balls. We're all behind you.

"He may be the most decent, kind hearted and forgiving man in American Politics today."

There is a fine line between decent and stupidity.

"Oh you want to rob, cheat and steal from the American taxpayers? Oh, OK I'll forgive you. Oh and you want to repeatedly do it again and again and again and then blame me? Oh, well, OK, I'll forgive you and not stand up for myself!"

Sorry that isn't being decent, that is being stupid! The wimp gene is being confused with "I'm above it all" gene!

I think President Bush is taking the high road.

Of course, Prosecuting a criminal to the fullest extent of the law would be taking the low road.

I think this is more than simple back scratching. There was a story back in early 2001, which I believe was also in Newsmax, that Daschle threatened to block Bush's entire legislative program if GWB charged Clinton with any crimes. So there are threats and retaliation involved here too. One thing I'll say for Dubya, at least he banned Arafat from the White House. It was a disgrace that Clinton let Arafat into the White House for 35 seperate visits.
