If President Bush is upset that former national security advisor Sandy Berger destroyed top secret terrorism documents in a bid to obstruct the 9/11 Commission investigation, he sure has a strange way of showing it.
In June, two months after Berger pled guilty to what some say is the most serious crime ever committed by a senior White House official - Bush invited him to the White House, where, according to the Associated Press, the disgraced former Clinton advisor was trotted out to voice support for CAFTA legislation.
Yesterday D.C. Magistrate Judge Deborah Robinson rejected a plea worked out for Berger by the Bush Justice Department, saying the $10,000 fine and 3-year security suspension arranged by Public Integrity Section chief Noel Hillman was way too lenient.
Robinson quintupled the fine and sentenced Berger to 100 hours of community service, saying that Hillman's recommendation didn't "sufficiently reflect the seriousness of the offense."
President Bush, however, apparently didn't agree. Two months after Mr. Hillman filed the ridiculously light plea bargain, Bush rewarded him with an appointment to the federal bench.
Good thing Judge Robinson's sentence left Mr. Berger's security suspension in place. Otherwise he might be on the short list for FEMA director.
I think that the President knows that he did it after being asked by someone else - whether it was for loyalty or because someone had something hanging over his head. Maybe he was boxed into a corner and the WH knows what really happened. It is still wrong of course, but I don't think we know the whole story either.
This book started me on the total corruption of top government. There is no doubt that GW is compromised. There is no doubt that the next president & the next & so on will be compromised. The exception was Ronald Reagan & he was feared by many because of that. That was the reason when Pat Buchanan ran that just when his campaign got going these elites shut it down. They didn't own him. Just as the book mentioned & will be proven correct in later years, the fact Bubba got off with nothing & the Hildabeast is on tract to become the next president & totally ruin this nation for the sake of the One World Order.
Talk about compromised, Buchanan was actually employed by CNN at one time.
At times, I agree - Bush is an IDIOT!
Not to mention the extreme stupidity of issuing debit cards of $2000 ??
WTF!?!?!?!
I'm sorry, but that's the last straw. The republican party and it's leaders are cowards and really no different than the democrats by how they protect each other (the political class). Maybe it's true what the left says about Bush that he's drinking again, cuz his actions make no sense.
Couldn't agree with you more. The political class needs to be reminded who signs their paychecks.
"working jus' fine"? I see your 1st of the month check is still not spent & your free meds haven't yet run out. (just kidding)
On another thread, I suggested that a Magistrate was somewhere between a Meter Maid and a Justice of the Peace. This case was handled as a misdemeanor instead of a felony which was a travesty of justice. Words cannot express my contempt for everyone involved in this whitewash.
Bushes and Clintons are buds.
There is a fine line between decent and stupidity.
"Oh you want to rob, cheat and steal from the American taxpayers? Oh, OK I'll forgive you. Oh and you want to repeatedly do it again and again and again and then blame me? Oh, well, OK, I'll forgive you and not stand up for myself!"
Sorry that isn't being decent, that is being stupid! The wimp gene is being confused with "I'm above it all" gene!
Of course, Prosecuting a criminal to the fullest extent of the law would be taking the low road.
But you don't have to go out of your way to placate the people who hate you.
I think this is more than simple back scratching. There was a story back in early 2001, which I believe was also in Newsmax, that Daschle threatened to block Bush's entire legislative program if GWB charged Clinton with any crimes. So there are threats and retaliation involved here too. One thing I'll say for Dubya, at least he banned Arafat from the White House. It was a disgrace that Clinton let Arafat into the White House for 35 seperate visits.
