Interesting idea. If it passed, would courts throw it out?

Finally, some acknowledgement--how about racketeering charges and an IRS audit next?

I read recently that in 1988, Congress passed the law that funded the ACLU - that's why they have so much money these days - this would cut off the blood money supply ... should be legal ...

I'm pretty sure they get lawyers fees FROM THE GOVERNMENT even if they lose a lawsuit.

A recipe for unending lawsuits.

That would be absolutely WONDERFUL! You know, though, how old GRINSburg would vote should this have to go to the "Supremes"!

I should have posted the complete Bill:

A BILL

To amend the Revised Statutes of the United States to eliminate the chilling effect on the constitutionally protected expression of religion by State and local officials that results from the threat that potential litigants may seek damages and attorney's fees.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

SECTION 1. SHORT TITLE.

This Act may be cited as the `Public Expression of Religion Act of 2005'.

SEC. 2. LIMITATIONS ON CERTAIN LAWSUITS AGAINST STATE AND LOCAL OFFICIALS.

(a) Civil Action for Deprivation of Rights- Section 1979 of the Revised Statutes of the United States (42 U.S.C. 1983) is amended--

(1) by inserting `(a)' before the first sentence; and

(2) by adding at the end the following:

`(b) The remedies with respect to a claim under this section where the deprivation consists of a violation of a prohibition in the Constitution against the establishment of religion shall be limited to injunctive relief.'.

(b) Attorneys Fees- Section 722(b) of the Revised Statutes of the United States (42 U.S.C. 1988(b)) is amended by adding at the end the following: `However, no fees shall be awarded under this subsection with respect to a claim described in subsection (b) of section nineteen hundred and seventy nine.'.

This is great and I hope the president and many senators/representative jump on board quickly.
Does anyone know if the Christian legal funds are allowed to get reimbursed by the government the same way the ACLU does, whether you win or lose a case?
The ACLU has all the incentive in the world to keep filing lawsuits becasue they will always be making money at the taxpayers expense.
I expect a big dog-fight over this from the ACLU and the Dims.

Here's what happened in Georgia recently:

An anonymous Barrow County resident sued the county in September of 2003 to remove the display, which hung in the breezeway of the county courthouse. Ten Commandments - Georgia pledged to pay for the fight, and has already paid the county $213,436.14. The group must still raise $52,000.

The county settled the suit in July and paid the ACLU and the anonymous resident $150,001 in taxpayer dollars last month. Ten Commandments - Georgia refused to give any money for the settlement.

Note: $150,000 went to the ACLU, and the resident got $1.
