I doubt I'll be able to access a computer while I'm there, but if I can, I certainly will let you know how it's going. I just hope I can work out all the logistics and make it happen. (And I haven't told my boss yet... !!)

I was just over at Pet Finder reading the lost/found lists.
So many people begging for someone to save or find their pets.
I just can't stand to think about how they must feel.

Well... let's wait on that until I do something successful. So far, it's a nightmare of logistics. All the rental vehicles are sold out at the Baton Rouge airport. Don't have an official contact yet. Don't have someone to pick me up at the airport and get me to the right area. Don't have a vehicle or a boat to do rescues on my own... So best-case scenario at this point is that I'd be cleaning cages and bathing animals. But it's killing me because those animals are already saved and alive... I want to save the ones who may not have another day or two to live. And cleaning cages is such a waste of my Hazardous Materials qualifications that could be used to rescue in the still-flooded areas, etc.
The whole thing is very frustrating right now.

Stop shooting the pets! There's a war going on. Every bullet we use shooting a dog in NO could be better spent shooting an islmowhacko in Iraq. Talk about getting prioritieds straight...

Why don't conservatives have anything analogous to "animal welfare" or "environmental" groups?
I'm so far right it's ridiculous *but* I also have a deep, abiding and ingrained love of the land, nature and critters.
I *used* to be a Democrat but the -rest- of their ideology sickened me and I switched to Republican.
How many more 'borderline' Dems would do the same if they knew they had a viable, compassionate alternative?
A woman I know is fanatically anti-abortion and very socially conservative yet she sticks with the Dems because *they* are the only people who ever gave any support to her "no kill" shelter efforts.
Just about everyone I meet automatically assumes I'm a Dem because of how I "look" and how I treat animals and the earth with respect.
[Frankly, I'm tired of being insulted by those assumptions]...:))
