More women are asking for prenups
Sun Sentinel ^ | September 18, 2005 | Georgia East

Over a casual dinner, Rachel Kaplan turned to her boyfriend and asked, "You're open for a prenup, right?"

Darren Waldohlz, 38, a partner in a successful speed-dating business, admits he was caught off guard. But he said he realized a prenuptial agreement would protect the house he owns, too.

"It's not that I plan to get divorced," says Kaplan, 23, a single mom from Fort Lauderdale, who has a sizable inheritance. "I have to protect myself and my daughter."

While men are still more likely to seek a prenup, "women are becoming a more dominant force," said attorney Alan Braverman, who has offices in Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach.

Experts attribute the change to women marrying later or more than once.

"It's not uncommon in today's world that women are entering marriages with assets and stock options," said matrimonial attorney Jacqueline Valdespino, in Coral Gables. "Now both sides have equal bargaining power."

And I should care about that post because?

BTW, if I was truly being catty, you'd feel a slight sting before finding your heart yanked out to be used for a doorstop.

But, gee....a girl can only use SO many doorstops in her house ;)

My kneejerk cattiness? Being that I love FR and don't want to get kicked off, I'm going to remain a lady instead of telling you where you can stick your comment.

Good idea! In my opinion, he's not worth the time or the effort. Some people refuse to take responsibility for their choices and either want to lay blame or project their own shortcomings on others. Personally, I think he's into projection but that's only my own opinion.

please stop putting words in my mouth...so don't go reading into anything

Again, you're being dramatic

Hey, it happens to men as well

That was not my point at all. Are you trying to understand why I'm saying?

"Hey, I bought into all this lame propaganda." Sorry to say this, but that's not my problem.

Good Lord woman, I said the women bought into the propaganda. You're really setting women back with these answers.

Being that I love FR and don't want to get kicked off, I'm going to remain a lady instead of telling you where you can stick your comment.

You need to do a lot more to get kicked off here. And don't hide your inability to grasp concepts on being too polite to respond. You really need to sit down and think about life.

She has no choice but to get out into the world and support herself. And if she is intelligent, talented, and competent, chances are good that she will be offered one promotion after another through the years. If she doesn't find someone in college, she may find herself unmarried as she gets into her thirties. It seems that somehow a woman who had to support herself is automatically considered a bitch by some male Freepers, and we women are not clear on how it is that a woman who has the self-respect to support herself and do well at it is therefore a bitch. Because, honestly, we are criticized if we stay home and have children, too.

You mam, I like

Ok, here's what I see. I believe I understand the challenges women are up against. Really they're not challenges but choices. All I'm saying is a woman needs to keep a family in mind if she wants that. And if she wants that, she will need to stop being so career minded. Did I add any light to this subject?

One more thing. I worry about younger women. It is my experience that a lot have no virtue, and virtue is a very important element of what a man is looking for.

I can't tell you how many engaged women have offered to sleep with me. Now what does that say?

I've had women hit on me in front of their boyfriends. Does she think I'd give a woman like that the time of day?

Maybe this is what porno and feminism had done to young girls. But something needs to be done.

As the mother of a college-age daughter, I share your fears.

You know, in the early 1800s England was plagued by a culture of sexual excess and rampant alcoholism. Crime and depravity were everywhere. By the 1840s people got sick of it and England underwent a sort of moral Renaissance which became the Victorian era. Society's problems weren't solved by any means, but society as a whole publicly supported marriage, family, church, and decency. I hope that someday Americans will become sickened by what our virtue-less society has turned into and will have a moral renaissance like that.

If a person doubts the integrity and honor of their spouse in living up to the oaths of marriage, then they need protection from each other in the form of a prenup. Those that know their spouse and are bound by their vows do not need prenups.

You never know what the future might bring in terms of influences and how those influences will affect your spouse. That has nothing to do with "integrity and honor".

When I met my wife she was, like I was, a U.S. Naval officer and claimed to be a Republican.

Now, 16 years after we moved to the Pacific Northwest Left Coast, the wife I married is no longer the wife I have.

As a stay-at-home Mom with no need to bring home a paycheck, she has mingled with the locals and the results have been catastrophic.

Her brother is a Naval aviator flying helos and, during his two Iraq tours, she was spouting the "Bush got us into this war to get money for Haliburton" total BS that the locals were spouting. It took a direct conversation with her brother to cut that cr#p out.

When our daughter was 7 years old, her victim-feminist counselor told her that, if I cuddled with my daughter while watching cartoons on the living room couch, that was a form of "Covert Incest". ( Look that up in the victim-feminist playbook.)

Fast forward to several years later and her latest Left-Wingism is that "my truth is not the same as her truth". When I heard that, I could not believe that was coming out of her mouth. Truth is truth, is it not?

A Google search, however, showed me that that is a New Age sophism.

If your spouse is still the same spouse you married, that's great. Consider yourself extremely lucky.

In my case, I have found that the spouse I now have is definitely not the spouse I married and the wife I now have is definitely FUBAR.

No, I have not left as there would be nothing worse for my kids than to live with a mother who thinks like that without a father in the house to set them straight. We have a large 1880's Victorian house and she lives on the second floor and I live on the third floor.

That is not a matter of "integrity and honor". That is a matter of social influences and you, in your mid-20's, have absolutely no idea what influences your spouse will be subjected to ten or twenty years down the road.

Hey I'm not condemning you for choosing not to marry. In fact, I think it's pretty smart on your part because with no disrepect intended....you just aren't the marrying type. I know others like you and they are very happy being single.

"Again, you're being dramatic."

Again, you're trying to twist everything I say. You've probably practiced this technique on others before me....it shows.

"Are you trying to understand why I'm saying?"

Huh? Did you mean to ask "Are you trying to understand WHAT I'm saying"? Well if that is indeed the question, my answer is no. I tried to at first, but I've got better things to do and it's time you moved on too. I'm sure there's a few women out there for you to torture and play head games with.....so go play.

Wow Vision. You must be some kind of guy to actually have engaged girls want to sleep with you. You must fight them off with a stick.

For most men getting prenups is the fact that in todays world the family court system is heavily stacked in favor for the women, and stacked heavily against men ( who usually get hammered financially in court ) with no thanks to the feminist. A better way to stop this moral decline and madness is to get rid of NO FAULT DIVORCE.

In the current family court system, there's no guarantee that a husband's prenup will be enforced against the wife if the judge doesn't like it.

40 or 50 years ago, a man could walk out on his wife for a younger woman (and it happened quite often), leaving the wife with absolutely nothing.

It had little to do with Law, and much to do with it being a less computerized age. Back then, there was also alimony and child support, just as much as today. However, it was much easier for a man to disappear and start over again in another state, and hard to find him again.

My dad left us when I was 3. Much later we found out thru his family that he was somewhere in California. My mom never did track him down before he passed away (with everything in his new wife's name)

I never said I made light of affairs that men have ( women also have affairs ) ,,,, and I also condemn the actions , not the person , of men who have affairs.

What my dad did was wrong in cheating on my mom,, but, he is still my father, and God commands to honor thy mother AND THY FATHER ( in case you have forgotten: The Ten Commandments

12 Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. )

The points I was trying to make here is ? women can be just as immoral as men can be.

Women also cheat on their husbands, do you condemn the actions of women who cheat on their husbands ?

My dad did his best to be a good father, and a good husband, and he did his best to get right with my mom after the divorce but she was very vindictive towards him, and in spite of someone else's wrong doings, it does not give you the right to seek revenge , the Lord talked a lot about forgiveness in the Bible.

I was there at the time, and I know the facts in the whole situation, and I don't appreciate you telling me something other wise, and twisting the facts and the story, that you don't know nothing about.
