More women are asking for prenups

Over a casual dinner, Rachel Kaplan turned to her boyfriend and asked, "You're open for a prenup, right?"

Darren Waldohlz, 38, a partner in a successful speed-dating business, admits he was caught off guard. But he said he realized a prenuptial agreement would protect the house he owns, too.

"It's not that I plan to get divorced," says Kaplan, 23, a single mom from Fort Lauderdale, who has a sizable inheritance. "I have to protect myself and my daughter."

While men are still more likely to seek a prenup, "women are becoming a more dominant force," said attorney Alan Braverman, who has offices in Fort Lauderdale and Boynton Beach.

Experts attribute the change to women marrying later or more than once.

"It's not uncommon in today's world that women are entering marriages with assets and stock options," said matrimonial attorney Jacqueline Valdespino, in Coral Gables. "Now both sides have equal bargaining power."

But I think all traits...Like virtue, integrity, honor, honesty, self-sacrifice are greatly lacking into many people today. And it isn't just gender specific. Maybe its just a big case of no self-respect.

It would be wonderful to find some middle ground between the Taliban and Sex in the City. I've experienced both extremes and both have their own unique misery about them. Neither create a generation of healthy individuals because both mindsets tend to cause harm to the most helpless (the kids).

I disagree. People's attitudes and expectations were the true problem. Men could walk away from his family and start a new life knowing noone would try to hold him accountable for the family he left behind. I'm not saying all men did this, I'm just saying that it was more acceptable back then for men to behave this way.

Yes, so I decided after that experience that prenups are the way to go. However, I have decided my dog and I are just fine without anyone. I also have my husband's elderly dog and two elderly cats left with me by two of my daughters. I surely don't need some man criticizing things and telling me what to do. ;)

Silly man. My late husband changed diapers, cooked, and did dishes and the laundry when necessary. We were partners for 33 years until he died. What you are describing is not a marriage! It is a dictatorship. I am not a feminist and I don't know anyone who is.

I had to work to help support the family after the children were in school. My husband felt that it was his responsibility to help with the household tasks. He was a wonderful man.

You right, God expects the husband to love his wife as Christ loved the church, however, the order of authority that God put into place, First God, then the Son ( Jesus Christ ) then the husband ( in the family unit, as leader and authority in the household ) and then , as parents as husband and wife as both leaders and parents over the children.
It is God's plan that God placed the husband as the head and leader of a household, it's doesn't mean the wife is lesser than the husband ( IN CHRIST ) for they both are partners as equal as lovers and partners ( IN CHRIST ), but, the husband is the leader, figurehead and authority in the family.
